(Creepy) Audio Bliss, March 10, 2009
This review is from: Silent Hill Zero Original Soundtrack CD (IMPORT) (Audio CD)
Before I bought Silent Hill Origins (Zero) I thought it would be a stripped-down quick little romp into Silent Hill that wasn't really any big deal, just a little game made up to keep the franchise going.
I was wrong. About the soundtrack, too. Akira Yamaoka didn't say, "Hey, well, it's just this silly PSP game. I'll strum out some licks on the guitar, synth in a few creepy sounds, get Miss McGlynn in here, and be done in an evening!" No, he didn't do that. And if he did he hid it very well.
It's hard to review a soundtrack like this because most tracks are ambient noise with a light pulse and some kind of emotional undertone. But in that regard, this one is just as good as the SH2 and 3 soundtracks. Can't say anything about that of the original Silent Hill, The Room, or Homecomming.
What stands out on this CD is Mary Elizabeth McGlynn's performances on Shot Down in Flames, O.R.T., Blow Back, and Hole in the Sky. (Was there another? I think it's just those four.) She sounds amazing in all of them and her voice accompanies the Silent Hill air so well. I prefer the vocal songs here over those in the Silent Hill 3 soundtrack, and she did well there.
That being said, I think 2 has the best instrumental songs, 3 has the best ambient ones, and 0 has the best lyrical. So would I call this the best Silent Hill soundtrack? No. But I would call it great, not just good. And the cover and art are neat, too.

Worth every penny, September 5, 2008
This review is from: Silent Hill Zero Original Soundtrack CD (IMPORT) (Audio CD)
The moment "O.R.T." began in the prologue of Origins, I said to myself, I have to buy this soundtrack.
Yamaoka has once again concocted a compilation of audio-euphoria that has yet to tire out, even after months of listening. The soundtrack is solid, ranging from new ambient material such as "ORT", back through the stylistic trip-hop elements of SH2 through SH4, and finally back to the mechanical clatterings of SH1.
If you liked the music from the previous games, buy this soundtrack now. You won't be disappointed. The artwork and mini-comic of Pyramid Head is killer, too.

Nice soundtrack!, August 28, 2010

I'm a Silent Hill fan since SH2. While Silent Hill Zero (SH:Origins in US) was kind of a meh game, the soundtrack, by Akria Yamaoka, is another feather in his cap. He once again creates music of atmospheric dread and industrial menace. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn returns for a few vocal pieces that, as always, are excellent.
