5.0 out of 5 stars Hits Close To Home, May 22, 2004
This review is from: Silent Killers (Paperback)
Because it hit so close to home, it took me several different sittings to read and finish this book, "Silent Killers". To know the heartbreak and reality of this book, and watch it unfold in words before my eyes is amazing, my tears mixed within the pages. Ms. Pannett does well in both explaining the loss of her cherished daughters, the how and the why, as well as let us in to her heart and mind to show us grief from the inside out. This dedication to the life of her children is an inspiring piece that should be read and understood by anyone that has lost a child, as well as one that should be read by friends and family that want to understand the different stages of grief. This is an outstanding, heartwrenching and wonderfully well written book that I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, May 31, 2004
This review is from: Silent Killers (Paperback)
Silent Killers is a heartbreaking non-fiction book about two beautiful women that died to soon. Linda Pannett puts her heart and soul in telling the story of her daughters. As you read you will get to know these two lovely girls and grow to love them as their family did. Having to say goodbye to two children is almost more than any mother should have to do. Pannett will have you grieving with her as she brings you with her on the road to the loss of her beloved daughters.

I would recommend this book to everyone. It will break your heart. And it will make you mad that people take life for granted everyday without thought to how they will hurt others with one wrong decision. If ever I have read a book that is a must read it is Silent Killers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Linda Pannett has written a fine book..., July 10, 2005
This review is from: Silent Killers (Paperback)
...and has no problems with her publisher. Her only problem is that someone is jealous of her, someone who sits in a library and sends messages and viruses to enemies.

Ms. Pannett has wonderful writing ability and has written a wonderful book. She is also highly respected by her fellow authors. That, in the end, is really all you need to know.

4.0 out of 5 stars An absolute heartbreaker that should be read by all, July 13, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Silent Killers (Paperback)
What can be said about this heartbreaking book that has not already been said in the tear drenched pages of this true story about a mother who lost two daughters within two years? Sheila, mother of two, was killed by a drunk driver, and then Sherri, mother of three, succumbed to cancer. The description of the terrible events in the hospital are so real, so heartbreaking, it is hard to read, for you can feel the mother's anguish with every word. No praises of literary style, no impartial description of writing talents is possible for this book, for it lives from the heart and soul of the author.

It has been said that no parent should ever outlive their children. This tragic story, as sad as it is, should help any of those unfortunate parents who have lived through that kind of hell to overcome their never ending nightmares and unbearable grief.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living hell..., April 12, 2005
This review is from: Silent Killers (Paperback)
Linda Pannett brilliantly portrays the living hell she lives coping with the death of two of her six kids. On dies in an accident involving a drunk driver and the other to cancer. Both deaths plague this mother with questions to God and herself. Why did this happen? Was I a good mother? And the daily nightmarish existence she'd rather give away gladly but can't...it really happened. Pannett decribes her pain adequately with the following: "Figuring out how to live is the hardest part. When you would rather die, living is very hard to do. Yes, I have other children, but how long will it be till I have to bury them?" I highly recommend this book. It tells it like it is and shows what it is like to go on even when you don't see how you can. Outstanding!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sorrowful Mother, August 20, 2005
This review is from: Silent Killers (Paperback)

"It's not an easy book to read," author and mother, Linda Pannett, advised me when I asked to read her book, "Silent Killers." Why? I wondered.

Linda's words flow from "inside the book" through a loving heart that experienced the soul-wrenching and agonizing pain of grief in losing two daughters in a relatively short period of time to drunk driving and cancer. She literally had to push and at times drag herself through the stages of grief--not once--but twice, experiencing denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance that contained in its journey loss of faith bordering on despair, with only brief moments of relief. Her description included a vision of light at times, and the odor of a special perfume her daughter wore that helped her to survive. It is the reader's belief that these moments came from a divine source that helps us in this world, not from a mind going insane, as she sometimes thought.

At first denying her loss, Pannett ponders "why?" throughout her path, occasionally wondering if she had loved too much. Her anger at the injustice of the courts in administering punishment too leniently gave her the motivation to write letters on behalf of victims of drunk driving and to support cancer prevention.

She shed many a tear as she accepted the reality of her loss, experienced the pain, adjusted to a life without her daughters and created a new reality for herself and her family.

Only those strong enough and loving enough to go through an experience such as Linda's have the knowledge and love sufficient to help others. In a deeper way, this intimate story of a mother's heartfelt sorrow at the loss of two beloved children to whom she gave birth, nourished and guided through life, helped me to understand in a small way the sorrowful human heart of the mother of Christ who gave His life for us.

Linda has found her "why?" and while the pain of losing two children will never go away, neither will her ability to reach out to others because of it.

Greater love hath no woman than she should lay down her life and take it up again for her children.

4.0 out of 5 stars A book of Raw Emotions!, March 30, 2005
This review is from: Silent Killers (Paperback)
A book of Raw emotion! If you have never experienced a death in your family or that of a close friend and would like a real understanding of what the mind and heart are doing to those who have, "Silent Killers" will give you that insight! Be prepared to go through The roller coaster of Raw emotions. Linda's ability to write her feelings in a way you can identify were magnificent! Not only does Linda explain her emotions and insight to Drunk Driving but she also takes you into the life of dealing with cancer, a very real killer, and how it affects a family.

Having experienced much trial and death in my life I am able to say that the accounts are very real. I could not keep from crying myself. It is much like living through the hell yourself. A very accurate account which makes it very difficult to read, because, just like real life the story goes on and on. I must admit that I was never happier than when the book was over because it was hard to live over again.
