While I like the few songs I have heard from this group I wasnt so sure how they would do a song such as Silent Night to be honest with you. I decided to download it just the same and at least listen to their version and I am really glad I did. It is a beautiful version and I love it.

This is a very pleasant version of the traditional song with very mild instrumentation and some extra backing vocals starting a quarter of the way into the song. The extra vocals really fill it out.

This was pretty much what I expected - a sweet mostly traditional version of Silent Night with a bit of Sixpence None the Richer's own style infused into it. Because the sample only includes the first verse, which is only the female vocalist, I wasn't expecting the male harmony to kick in on the second verse (which I found out, after poking around a bit, is one of the guys from Jars of Clay). Here's the lyrics he sings:
I can see you in the snow I can tell that you've been crying There's nothing in these lights that glow that tells you that this world's not dying But underneath these blankets white Glows a warmer kind of light You won't have to sing alone Christ the Savior is born Christ the Savior is born I can see you in the snow Crystal tears have started drying There's something in these lights that glow A Savior in a manger lying Up above these blankets white Are angels filling up the sky A star is burning in the night Jesus Lord... Hallelujah Christ is born Hallelujah It took a while to make out the words in the first set of his vocals, though, because the voices were distinct enough to hear his words along with hers. The sound was nice, but it isn't until the second set of harmonized verses that their voices are distinct enough to hear his words clearly. I wish they would have highlighted his voice more because his lyrics were new, while the female vocals are the same Silent Night lyrics we all know. The vocals aren't very powerful - more sweet and ethereal than strong and bold - but that's what I would expect for any rendition of Silent Night. It isn't a power ballad, but rather a sweet Christmas tune. All in all, it's a nice addition to my Christmas music library. (If this is too syrupy sweet for you, though, check out Third Day's Offerings album. It's not a freebie like this one, but it's worth the price and much more powerful.)

I always had a soft spot for Sixpence None The Richer. Leah's voice to me has a really beautiful quality. Picked this up for free so you can't argue with the price. Good version.

This is a beautiful version of this song. Country music lovers will be drawn to this, although it fits nicely into a compilation of Christmas songs featuring all different styles of music. This is more of a low-key song.

One of the best versions of Silent Night I have heard. I especially like the background vocals.

This is very nice version on Angels We Have Heard On High. The arrangement has a current sound without losing the essence of this classic Christmas carol.
