The Silent Room
By Walter Sorrells Take a couple minutes of your time and pretend you've lost your father that you spent a lot of time with. Then he suddenly dies. A couple years later your mom dates a different guy but he isn't the loving type of guy. This is what oz fells like in the book the silent room by Walter Sorrells. Be fore oz's dad dies, he used to spend a lot of time with him. Now his dad is gone .his moms new boyfriend frames oz of having drug. So oz is sent to a juvenile delinquent center that is surrounded by a swamp. He is trying to escape, but he doesn't know how. Oz has had lots of trouble after his dad died. The Silent Room is a really good book. And I would recommend it for people between the ages of 13-16.

Great for a teen reader. I write YA, so I read YA. As YA's go, this was engaging and for the most part held my interest to the end. The plot often took unbelieveable jags, but most kids wouldn't probably notice those. Overall, the book felt like I was watching a movie made for television on the Disney channel complete with nasty bad guys, dead guys and nail biting suspense.

A Book You Won't Be Able To Put Down,
This review is from: Silent Room (Hardcover)
A few years after Oz's dad dies, his mother finds a new boyfriend who abuses him when she's not around. Oz knew that nothing good could come from him, but he never thought that things would get as bad as they did. When his soon-to-be-stepfather frames Oz and makes up lies about him, Oz's mother can't handle anymore of it. Her boyfriend talks her into thinking that he is an out of control child and he talks her into sending him to a reformatory school on a deserted swampland out in the middle of nowhere with no place to run or even hide - or so that's what he's told.
When Oz arrives at the school, they're really tough on him. At first, he thinks that's just how it's supposed to be at those types of places, but after a while, he realizes that something isn't right; the staff there treats the boys with no respect at all and the rules crazy. Oz and his roommates thinks that something big is going to happen the night that everyone's parents come to visit. They decide that no matter what they've been told, they are going to find a way to escape. The surprising twists and turns of this suspenseful story about a teenage boy fighting for his life won't let you put this book down. You'll be wanting more even when you're finished with it. I recommend this book to anybody who likes books filled with suspense and adventure. |
