From Publishers Weekly

Freethy (Taken) hits the ground running as she kicks off another winning romantic suspense series. A nervous Sarah Tucker is speeding north out of Los Angeles in a driving rain, constantly checking her rearview mirror, when she loses control of her car and careens into a ravine. In the hospital next morning, she doesn't remember a thing, not her name or anything about the infant's shoe found in the wrecked car. No purse, ID or clues of any kind show up until an irate man appears and demands Sarah return his daughter, 16-month-old Caitlyn, to him immediately. The seriously p-o'd Jake Sanders identifies Sarah as the child's mother and believes Sarah is faking amnesia in order to keep Caitlyn from him. Needless to say Jake sticks to Sarah like glue as they search for hints to Caitlyn's whereabouts and uncover Sarah's mysterious past. Freethy's at her prime with a superb combo of engaging characters and gripping plot. (Mar.)

STORY BRIEF:
The story begins with a car following Sarah. She is driving in a storm, afraid, and has an accident. She ends up in the hospital with amnesia. Her 16 month old daughter Caitlyn is missing. Jake arrives and claims to be Caitlyn's father. He says Sarah lived with him for 2 years and then ran away 7 months ago taking Caitlyn. He is angry and wants his daughter Caitlyn back. Meanwhile someone tries to kill Sarah while she is in the hospital. Jake and Sarah leave the hospital and together they start searching for Caitlyn. Sarah's instincts tell her to keep the police out of it. They start with a few clues from the police and then pieces of her memory periodically return, which give them more clues to follow.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
The first half dragged a bit. Sarah was frustrated at having no memory. Jake was angry and frustrated because Sarah lied to him, left him, took their child, and can't remember anything. A number of conversations seemed repetitive with Jake asking and Sarah not remembering.

The second half was better. Sarah remembered bits and pieces of her past. Other people provided clues. Catherine was an interesting character, a vegetarian and a psychic artist with a menagerie of pets. I enjoyed and looked forward to her parts in the story.

This book was not typical for romantic suspense because we do not see the development of a relationship. The story begins after the relationship ended. The couple is apart and at odds with each other. The relationship questions are: Will they get together again? Why did she leave? Will Jake forgive her? The suspense questions are: Where is Caitlyn? Why is Sarah running? Who is trying to kill her?

Barbara Freethy has created another entertaining and suspenseful book in Silent Run.

Sarah Tucker is a woman on the run when she gets into a car accident which she is lucky to have survived. She wakes up in a hospital bed as a Jane Doe with no memory of who she is. She had no identification on her and the police circulate her photo on the news with hope of someone she knows coming forth to identify her.

Someone does come forth and his name is Jake Sanders. He is the one who identifies her as Sarah Tucker, his former girlfriend and mother to his daughter, Caityln. It seems that they were together for two years and were living together. One day while he is out of town, she disappears with their daughter. Since that day seven months ago, Jake has been looking for her and their daughter. The problem is that she doesn't have Caitlyn with her and doesn't remember where she could be. Was she in the car with Sarah when it crashed?

Jake is angry and bitter at Sarah and his feeling is understandable. Sarah was the love of his life and who he wanted to marry as well as the mother to their child. One day she ups and disappears with their daughter and he never hears from her again. His primary objective is to find his daughter and the only way to do that is to work with Sarah. Jake realizes soon afterward that someone is truly after Sarah and is trying to kill her. The questions are many and of course the answers are few since Sarah can't remember any of it. She has flashes of memory but can't place them or understand what they mean to her. She has obviously been on the run from someone but for how long and why?

The journey to find the answers to her past and find her daughter keep the reader in suspense to the very end.

This book pulls you in from page 1. The situation is compelling (a woman who's lost her memory and her child) and gets even more so as the child's father enters the picture. There are mysteries on top of mysteries as truths are revealed. And the romance is fraught with conflict and tension. It's an excellent blend of romance and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Highly reommended!

This book gives you so many unanswered questions from the very first page.

Silent run is a fast paced book that you will have to read faster to catch up.

However, the couple did not have so much spark, because, hatred was more discussed about their relationship. Sarah, did not even have thoughts about being attracted to Jake during her amnesia period.

The adventure, however, is again very interesting. What disappointed me was the fact that, Sarah has been hiding from these people for so long because they were very dangerous, but Jake terminated their enemies in the simplest way possible.
After that, they only have to answer to the police whom Sarah did not trust at all. Then, all of a sudden, Sarah is free from the killers. It feels that freethy just wanted the story to end suddenly.

3.5 stars for this one. The mystery surrounding Sarah was what kept me turning the pages. I couldn't particularly root for Sarah for leaving Jake with Caitlyn, despite her reasons for doing so. I felt a lot like Jake wanting to strangle her for what she did. For some reason, for all that Sarah's character went through, I just didn't find her sympathetic, I felt more for Jake and his anger and despair for what Sarah put him through.

I was more interested in the development of the secondary characters, Dylan and Catherine, who are the protagonists in Freethy's "Silent Fall".

I thought the dialogue and ending between Sarah and Jake was rather cheesy (for lack of a better description).

It was an easy read, quite short, very simple plot, no complicated twists or turns.
