Excellent overview of rural depopulation in North Dakota,

This review is from: Silent Towns on the Prairie : North Dakota's Disappearing Towns and Farms (Paperback)
I found this book while preparing to teach a course of the Geography of the American Great Plains. The book is a well-written overview of rural depopulation in North Dakota and much of what is presented applies to other parts of the Plains as well. The writing is crisp and not overly academic and that is refreshing. The author interweaves the settlement history of the state with the recent developments in rural decline and provides black-and-white photographs illustrating the variety of "ghost towns" of the northern Plains. My students will find this title on the course's recommended reading list.
