This plays like an alternate version of Signs. A young man inherits a small farm when his cousin dies in an accident. Ha and a group of friends visit the farm in hopes of fixing it up and selling it. But what is going on in the cornfields?

Crop circles appear in the corn and noises are heard. Someone sees a figure. Then someone disappears. At this point things start to really get creepy. The dead cousin seems to have thought there were aliens in the corn and even claimed, on video, to have captured one. Could aliens be involved? Could they be something else?

While the exact nature and origin of the creatures is not definite at the end of the film, there is an adequate explanation. Like Signs there is a high level of creep factor in this movie with many things seeming to be just out of sight. There are some nice twists in the plot, and the ending, that help make the film feel original and fresh.

The only problems I had with the film was minor. The farm seemed to be just a house and some cornfields. There were no sheds, barns, silos or other buildings and a lack of farm equipment. This is explained in the extras as the house was built in the field just for the movie. But it is just a minor thing and not really a problem. The other was pounding a for sale sign in right in front of the house where it can not be seen from the road 1/4 mile away.

If you like creepy horror movies with heavy atmosphere or really liked Signs, you will probably like this one.

I think the title of this review says a lot. Silent Warnings is one of these movies that only fans of its genre like. Don't take me wrong. Despite it's a low budget film (given the amounts of money some blockbuster movies cost this years) they do a really nice work.

The movie is character-driven, and the plot circles around a group of six people played by little known or not known at all. They do a terrific job. The characters are very belivable and they really put you into the story. Stephen Baldwin appears in only the first 3 minutes of the movie and does an ok job. I believe they only hired him to sell the movie, but they couldn't afford a first-line actor for the whole movie.

The music is not great, but somehow they manage to create a good thriller-like mood and ambiance. The lightning is good, given the fact that all the action takes place in the dark. The special effects are ok, considering the low budget. The aliens are a little weird, but at least they're not cheesy.

The story is ok. There is not any background info about the aliens, their origin or their intentions, and the end of the movie is a little abrupt. The movie would have been much better if they had elaborated the story a little more.

Bottomline: This is a good movie, with a good direction, great cast and nice production. If you're a Sci-fi fan you will love it. If you don't like sci-fi movies a lot, you might find this movie only good for a rental in a rainy night or maybe you'll think it's just a waste of time.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Movie, June 16, 2004

Some people seem over critical (could we say, spoiled?) when it comes to this movie. Silent Warnings is a film that takes me back to some of the great smaller budged thrillers of the 80's that relied on a good story, slow building suspense, and explosive endings instead of flashy garbage all the way through. The cast is bright and talented and so is the crew. The discerning eye can tell a lot of love and fun when into the flick. I could nit pick at some things here and there sure, but it holds up well (even after repeated viewings). Don't expect a slam bang actioner on this one. It is a carefully written, character driven, suspense building story that eventually explodes into a dark ending. I think the film is a lot better done than others more higher budgeted in this category. Screw Signs. Another great entry into some of the greats, like Hanger 18, Capricorn One, The Arrival, Roswell (the 1994 tv movie) etc. It's by no means near as great as John Carpenters THE THING, but if like that kind of movie, you might like SILENT WARNINGS...

3.0 out of 5 stars SIGNS OF THE TIMES, August 2, 2004
This review is from: Silent Warnings (DVD)
I have to admit that I enjoyed this much more than the bigger-budgeted SIGNS. At least SILENT WARNINGS remains coherent, and its cast of relative unknowns do pretty good. Name stars Stephen Baldwin and Billy Zane have little screen time; Baldwin as usual makes the best of it, and Zane as usual stinks. I don't know how he's had a career.
Anyway, the special effects are fine for a low budget movie; the director, Christian McIntire, manages to create an eerie and suspenseful mood, with some genuinely scary moments.
Overall, a fairly entertaining and diverting spooker.

2.0 out of 5 stars I ROFL'd, July 30, 2011

I seen this movie on TV some years ago and as far as I can remember I liked it. I purchsed the movie a couple days ago and watched it last night.. and all I can say is ROFL!

This show was REALLY bad and I love all kinds of weird creepy alien movies. The first time I seen the aliens I about fell out of my bed laughing. I can't believe how stupid they were. The movie doesn't flow really well its one scene after another with black scence in between (feels like its going to commercial).

I'm glad to have the movie so that its part of my collection of werid alien movies, but probably not something I well really ever watch again. Its way too boring, and just doesn't feel like other alien movies.

Lots of people keep comparing this movie to Signs, and that's not really fair because Signs was nothing like this movie, and it was a million times better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone has their own opinion., February 2, 2010
This review is from: Silent Warnings (DVD)
I love it. It's fun to watch, imo. Yes, some cheesy graphics (in e.t. parts) but hey it's more aggressive and intense than 'Signs' imo (if it has to be compared to that movie). Actually wish it was available on bluray too.

I should have known if it had Stephen Baldwin in it with top billing it was going to be a stinker. The only part I liked was the last 10 to 15 minutes. Because it had a decent ending I'll give it two stars instead of one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wow this movie is bad, October 6, 2003
This review is from: Silent Warnings (DVD)
Don't see this crappy SCIFI pictures ripoff of Signs. It's really bad.

PS: This movie claims that it stars one of the Baldwin brothers (I forget which one). He's in it for 3 to 5 minutes in the begining and gets fried. Man, is this movie desperate for viewers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning: Do not insert into your DVD player, October 8, 2003

Knowing from previous experiences that Stephen Baldwin is most likely the worst actor in the world, the guy has like one facial expression through an entire movie, we decided in a hurry to rent 'Warnings' (seems like that's its title here in Europe (...) After five minutes approx. the movie turns into the biggest movie rip-off I've ever seen, and we're talking 'Signs' of course. I didn't like 'Signs' that much when I saw it. The aliens, being computer graphics and all, ruined the movie totally. With that in mind 'Warnings' is ten times worse - at least! The rip-off part aside, this movie had potential, but I guess they dug their own grave with those CG-aliens (the dolls looked even worse) and the, at times, really bad acting. Unbelievable! Billy Zane is the real star in this movie, for what it's worth, and he can't possibly have more than ten lines or whatever. The only terrifying thing about this movie is that it actually got released. What were they thinking? Beats me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch it now!, July 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Silent Warnings (DVD)
Well, what's to say about Silent Warnings (here in Belgium, it's just called 'Warnings')?
Have you ever seen Signs with Mel Gibson and Joaquim Phoenix? And you liked it? Well than you should see Silent Warnings, too. You can compare the two, although Silent Warnings is much better than his big brother.
You don't get famous stars like Mel Gibson, except for Billy Zane and one of the Baldwins, but still this movie is great with relatively unknown actors who perform on a very high level!
Like all the SF alien related movies, it is a bit exagerated when you see the 'strange visitors', but what alien related movie is not a bit exagerated?
I am not gonna tell you what happens, but the story starts with 6 friends who are going to clean up the house of the cousin who went mad of one the six main characters. Not all of them will survive, it's up to you to guess who will and who won't...
Just buy it, watch it and enjoy it!
