The comprehensive text for the field of Lymphatics~a Must Have!,
By Vanski (UT, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silent Waves: Theory and Practice of Lymph Drainage Therapy: With Applications for Lymphedema, Chronic Pain, and Inflammation (Hardcover)
Dr. Chikly is THE Leader in his field and has truly displayed it in this amazing reference work. I have trained many modalities as a Licensed Therapist and his Manual Lymphatic Technique is one of the more astounding ones! I have been fortunate enough to learn them directly from him in Arizona. Bruno is a serious PhD expert, but at the same time one of the kindest, most genuine people ON THE PLANET~ we're talking Ghandi-like. The knowledge of this technique will forever shift your view of the body as well as the real power in gentle, almost touchless, techniques. Dr. Chikly has put his life work into this material and it is second to none on the subject. I really feel the medical community could benefit more from its increased usage, as could the general public for use at home. Anyone can learn from the mountain of information that's packed into this very nice hard covered book.

This is the textbook for the Lymphatic Drainage Therapy program offered through the Upledger Institute. You can purchase it from them for $75 if Amazon is unable to stock it. It is written in medical language and is for the practicing therapist. It can also be a valuable resource for patients, however.

Does not describe actual techniques for LDT or MLM,
By PTdoctor (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silent Waves (Hardcover)
The text offers a review of the lymphatic system but when it comes to techniques for Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT) or Manual Lymphatic Mapping (MLM) it provides the following text: "These things can only be learned properly in the setting of a professional seminar." Upon talking to a physical therapist who attended the seminar, she told me she was legally bond to not offer any insights into the practice of LDT or MLM. So, Dr. Chikly may be a saint or a Ghandi type person but it sure seems obvious that he does not want anyone to know about his technique unless they pay him $700 per course (and he offers many, many courses on LDT to become certified). I just think that a lot of what he offers is not based on science, nor does he allow others to test his applications scientifically. In this text he describes his "scientific study" of MLM (that is absolutely flawed) as proof that his MLM can be taught to students (and yet only half get it right after multiple courses on MLM).

This is a great text book if you're starting into manual lymphatic drainage; the exercise cards to go along with manual techniques by Sandy Artzberg are really good too.
