Hotshot detective Matthew Bediker has struggled most of his life with feelings of abandonment. When he was just ten years old, his mother abandoned both him and his father for another man. The betrayal cast his father into an emotional tailspin causing him to take his own life with his own shotgun. Young Matthew Bediker was at the kitchen table doing his homework when the piercing sound of the shotgun blast rang out. As an adult, aside from his emotionally crippling childhood memories and the recent and suspicious death of his childhood friend and partner Harold Jenkins, his life was perfect. He was the precinct's top detective, he had a great apartment, a nice car, and a great friend. Yep, everything was just perfect until he came to town! When the tortured ghost of a ten-year-old boy, who was brutally raped and murdered, enlists Matthew Bediker's assistance in identifying, apprehending, and bringing his murderer to justice, Bediker suddenly realizes that although he can run from his demons, he cannot hide from them. The ghost forces him to confront and conquer his demons, and in so doing, his life is changed forever.
