2.0 out of 5 stars Not good for Home Theater built-in component cabinet., March 27, 2010

The whole idea for having this product is to allow the cabinet door to be closed during useage. The fans were too noisy and very distracting. The motors are so weak that the fans were continually fluctuating their speed due to any slight air movement changes. The worst part is that they must not be shielded because they caused interference with a light snowiness on the TV screen while watching satellite TV. They may be OK for computers, but this set was advertised for Home Theater Cabinets. Therefore, I had to return them for refund.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked great, for about 2 days, February 20, 2011

This review is from: Silenx IXACCS External 5 Channel Cabinet Cooling S (Personal Computers)
I installed the 2 fans in the kit as exhaust fans for a cabinet entertainment system. The kit seemed to be nicely put together although install took a bit of work since you need to cut a 5" hole for every fan you install. The fans mount to the plastic duct with little rubber mounts designed to minimize vibrations and noise between the fan and duct. These seemed like a good idea, until I opened the cabinet 2 days later to find one of the fans sitting on top of my reciever. The heads of 2 of the rubber mounts appeared to have torn off, allowing the fan to drop in the front then pull off of the other mounts, causing the fan to fall about 6". I contacted Silenx and informed them of the problem and they quickly agreed to send me 8 new mounts (4 for each fan). Before the replacement mounts had arrived, fan #2's mounts began to fail. I turned the remaining fan off completely and waited for the new mounts to arrive (assuming I had just gotten a bad/old batch the first time). The mounts arrived, and I installed them (although they seem no different/better than the originals) and instantly noticed that the 1st fan that had fallen was considerably louder than the 2nd one that only adrooped a bit. I send another email to tech support asking to exchange my now noisy fan for a new one since their failed mounts were the cause of the problem and after a week still no response. I had read somewhere else that tech support for their fans was a problem but since they were so fast to respond about the mounts (multiple emails a day) I didn't think it would be a problem. Apparently it is a problem when it comes to anything other than some cheap rubber mounts. I am disappointed in this product and despite all the claims these fans really aren't that great. They claim 90cfm at full speed but my cabinet temps really didn't drop enough to justify the price. Yeah, I can order more fans but at $25 a piece I'd have over $100 in cooling my cabinet and I couldn't be sure that would make any more difference than just opening the door and pointing a normal fan at it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cant turn them off, January 30, 2011
This review is from: Silenx IXACCS External 5 Channel Cabinet Cooling S (Personal Computers)
I purchased this kit and have four fans cooling the amplifiers in my theater set-up. They move air fine at the highest setting but there is no way to turn the units off other then unplugging the controller. This is crazy! A simple on/off swith on the controller would solve this or at least make us the purchasers aware ahead of time. Otherwise I would give it a 5 star.
