I recently purchased components for and assembled a i7 cpu based computer, starting with a Cooler Master HAF932 case. The case comes with fans, but the one in the front of the case was quite noisy, so i replaced it with another made by another manufacturer that claimed its fan would be quiet. Not even close - it had a horrible high-pitched sound. I did more research and decided to try this SilenX Ixtrema Pro - 120 mm with blue LED. THIS is a quiet fan. It keeps my RAID array cooled, with whisper quiet operation. It is rated as 14 dba and i believe it. I highly recommend this fan.

solid fan - short lifespan?,
This review is from: Silenx IXP7414B iXtrema Pro LED Fan (Electronics)
I've had four of these fans as part of a custom liquid cooling system running in a CoolerMaster case for about one year now. The computer gets about 4 hours of run time each day, so I would estimate I have about 1500 hours of total run time. I lost my first fan today when the bearings burned up. The other three fans seem just fine. I'll update this review if I get any more data. The fans are quiet, push enough air flow for my mid-ATX tower, and the blue LED's look nice. I don't even use the rubber sound mounts included in the kit because I have not had any problems with vibration or noise with the fans hard mounted. Maybe I'm a little picky on the longevity - for $20 I cannot complain too much.
