My first and favorite Kenny G CD!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Silhouette (Audio CD)
This was the first Kenny G CD I got, and I still can't get enough of listening to Silhouette the title track! I would also highly recommend his CD The Moment, another gem from a talented, sensitive man. I do wish people who know they do not like a particular musician would quit reviewing their work, as it gives an inaccurate rating to those who do enjoy the artist. Spend some time giving a comparative, thoughtful review to someone who you do like, and spare the rest of us your rhetoric!

Best of Kenny G's Best, soothing, tantilizing, & relaxing.,

Tunes form Kenny G's saxophone flow along with the wonderful vocalists; including Kenny G. In my opinion, I am found of "I'll Be Alright", "We've saved the Best for Last", and "Silhouette, because they help me relax after a hard day at work. The remaining tracks flow together sequentially in moods either being relaxing or "jazzed up". Other times I just listen to this album, because it makes feel good inside. Kenny G captures your ears with his soothing tunes. Especially relaxing for anyone who is feeling stressed or feeling down. I highly recommend this CD to listeners who enjoy smooth jazz, classical, &/or easy listening.

This CD is good.,

I am appalled at the negative reviews that I,ve been reading on all of the Kenny G pages. While I think Kenny shouldn't be compared to the legendary musicians like Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, or John Coltrane Kenny G deserves so much better praise than the garbage that he is being bembarded with on these pages. There are several good songs on here. Such examples are the breathtaking title track, the awesome I'll Be Alright, the classy We,ve Saved The Best For Last, and the somber closing track Home. Silouette holds up well compared to his older albums and his post Breathless material. Whatever you do don't listen to the negative reviewers on here and get this CD. And get Breathless as well. This and the other I mentioned are all you need to hear the best Kenny has to offer.

Released in 1988 this is Kenneth Gorelick's fifth solo album. This is his second smash hit album, topping the jazz charts and nearly hitting number 1 on the Billboard top 200. The sound quality is very good. It is 48 minutes long.
With Kenny G, there seems to be the people who love him and the people who hate him and no middle ground. It is easy to sneer at him with his long wavy hair and soft jazz getting airplay on the easy listening and pop rock stations. But, for a soft jazz musician, he is better than most. His compositions are fluid and interesting. Many soft jazz groups just go the sound and repetitiously play some pop hook. Kenny G's music is more imaginative than most. But, it is still soft, pop jazz and is weak in some parts. It still have trouble getting past the opening title track. This is mainly because it was so overplayed, and there some parts that just get on your nerves. But, if it wasn't overplayed and if you listen carefully to the whole thing, you find it is a pretty good composition. This is typical late eighties soft jazz. It even includes a few vocal tracks. It is the type of music most jazz muscians were playing at the time, even the old time fusion superstars like Billy Cobham and Chic Corea. It isn't as good as something by Billy Cobham, but it is certainly better than most of the mainstream pop jazz of that time.

Smooth,

Born Kenneth Gorelick, Kenny G is probably the best known American saxophonist. He rose to fame in the 1980s, and has gone places no other jazz musician has gone - in 2003, Kenny G was named the 25th-highest selling artist in America by the RIAA! Some dislike what he has done in the name of jazz, but it is hard to argue with success.
In fact, I love the smooth sound of Kenny G, and like this album immensely. Probably my favorite song on the album is We've Saved The Best Last with the legendary Smokey Robinson providing the vocal. Overall, I think that this is a great album. If you like the smooth jazzy sound of Kenny G, you'll like this CD. I highly recommend it!

One of my all-time favs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Silhouette (Audio CD)
"Silhouette" has everything a Kenny G fan could want in his albums: upbeat sax rhythms ("I'll Be Alright", "Against Doctor's Orders", "Summer Long"), sweetly sentimental softies ("Silhouette", "Pastel", and "We've Saved the Best for Last"), and fabulous guest vocals (Motown legend Smokey Robinson)! I just cannot pick one track on this album as my all-time favorite; they're all uniquely good to listen to again and again. "Silhouette" ranks as one of Kenny's greatest albums, along with "Breathless" (1992) and "The Moment" (1996)! A true stress-relieving, candlelite-dining, slow-romancing treat!

Silhouette,

I liked this CD, but don't think that it was his best effort. The songs All In One Night and We've Saved the Best for Last are a little bland, but that doesn't make this a bad CD. Paulinho da Costa does some fine percussion work in Let Go and Pastel. I know some people dislike Kenny G's music, but I guess they don't know that Kenny G used to practice on the saxophone for 4 hours a day, every day for 12 years. The man has put his time in!I know that people who would not listen to Kenny G's music and they are just as entitled to their opinion as people who like it, but why don't they turn some of that vitriol toward someone who really deserves it. At least Kenny G's music isn't laced with unnecessary and nearly constant profanity, and it doesn't sell the message that killing policemen, degrading women, murdering people, and committed armed robbery is cool. Sorry for venting, but I had to get that off my chest.

Come on, jazz lovers, either purists or not. Kenny G is a gifted sax player (and does everything he wants with his instrument). I've seen the guy playing live and he is a wonderful musician. The problem is, the way I see it anyway, people tend to label an artist with the wrong style, which causes negative reviews here and through any media availabe (newspapers and magazines included). Kenny G is not a jazz player, and he is not supposed to be compared to jazz giants (the list is huge). His music is beautiful and highly recommended for romantic people who enjoys moments in peace with someone you love and care for. This is a matter of taste, only. If you don't like the style, please don't buy it. Simple as that. Although I don't have the guy's entire catalog, I do have some of his CD's and had great moments listening to them. "Silhouette" is a favorite for most people, but for me the ten stars song in this CD is "Let Go". Listen to it, with a red wine glass on the side.

it doesn't seem like there was anything wrong with this album. Other than jealousy among the prestige, there hasn't really been any setbacks to seemingly crafting this piece of artwork.
You get a special treat with the duet of him and Smokey Robinson, and like those who know the latter guy, his music seems to be mostly slow just like the mostly consistent flow of music on "Silhouette" by Kenny G, so it's like a nighttime thing. |
