This book's title is Silhouettes from Popular Culture, and that is EXACTLY what it is. No more, no less. I was glad to find He-Man, and my co-workers got a kick out of Darth Vader. Fun book, just don't expect it to be more than it says it is!
Having heard of Olly Moss only this year (through AintitCool, Laughing Squid, and Mondo), I've really fallen in love with his work.
My wife loves pop culture and I thought that this would make a perfect Christmas gift for her. It is definitely a great gift. We will probably put it on our coffee table and say something like "Oh, you like those silhouettes? Let me show you some of these posters that he has also done."
Really a great, cheap way to provide happiness to any Olly Moss or Pop Culture Fan!
Olly Moss has become well know for his creative play on pop culture imagery, from his reimagining of Star Wars posters through to poster art for video games, bands and film. This book is a collection of his work from his first solo show at Gallery 1988, while it doesn't include every work, it is curated selection of his favourite pieces. Beautiful blue cloth bound cover with thick quality paper throughout. A must for anyone interested in the art of silhouettes or in the work of this talented artist.
I bought this book for a reference piece to some paintings I was working on. The book is chalked full of wonderful Pop Culture silhouettes, but that's it. There are no indications of who they are. Granted, most of them are very recognizable, but there are a few I scratch my head about.
All in all, it's a very attractive book, and looks nice on a shelf. The glossy pages offer numerous, well known silhouettes, and I'm happy with my purchase.
I purchased this book after purchasing other works by Olly Moss. This book is probably the only way you will see all of his silhouettes, or any for that matter, without having to shell out a ton of money.
Book itself is about the size of kids book. Bound nicely. Crisp, sturdy pages. Fun to go through and figure out who they are.
Having been a fan of Olly Moss' Mondo posters, but never having the luck to purchase one, this mini "gallery" is all that I could ever want. The minimalist ingenuity of the subjects and the way that they are presented is simply masterful. A proud placement on my coffee table for guests to behold and geek out over.
I love this book and I get most of them! But I saw there were others at his exhibition (like the Simpsons and futurama) and was kinda sad they weren't in the book. Oh well! Guess he'll have to release more!!
