Book Description

May 5, 2003
Silicon Secrets tells the tale of what happens when destiny brings together two lost souls, each searching for freedom and love, until their secrets threaten to tear them apart.

Lucky leaves Europe and comes to America in search of freedom from a haunted past and a chance at a new life. He journeys west, to California, and a valley they call Silicon. Hungry for success and riches, his only goal is to become the next software king. His plans take a detour when he meets Heather, a beautiful, beach loving, free-spirited artist. He’d sell his soul to get what he wants, but she wants nothing except the one thing she can’t have. The line between his pursuit of success and romance is crossed when J.J., a seductress executive, enters his life. Lucky will stop at nothing to get what he wants, but will his secrets cost him more than he ever imagined?

About the Author

As a young child, Catherine Burr moved with her family from Canada to sun-drenched Northern California. With her siblings, she played in the orchards and open fields of Santa Clara Valley, cherishing the beauty of the land, until progress arrived in the name of Silicon Valley. When her father took her on a tour of an early Silicon Valley computer company, she was filled with intrigue, as the framework was being laid for the high tech generation, as well as ideas for Catherine's future novels.

When Catherine's children started college, she decided to fulfill her lifelong dream of writing fiction. Silicon Secrets is Catherine's debut novel.

Catherine lives in California, and enjoys traveling with her husband. She is currently at work on her next novel

More About the Author

Catherine Burr is an American romance novelist and parenting humorist. As an indie author, her books have sold over 100,000 copies. Her books have appeared on many best seller lists including over 52 weeks on the Amazon.com Best Seller List.

Catherine's first book, "Motherhood is not for Wimps" was co-written with her sister and generated much interest including a humorous online support group, a popular syndicated column and being featured in the textbook, "Merry Wives and Others" as a Foremost Domestic Humorist in North America, her parenting humor writing being compared to Erma Bombeck and Dave Barry.

In the early 2000's, Catherine had several novels published including "Silicon Secrets" which was turned into a screenplay. Catherine is also the author of many short stories, including, "An Inconvenient Attorney" which was on the Amazon.com Best Seller List for over 52 weeks.

Originally from Canada, Catherine's family moved to Silicon Valley where she grew up fascinated with the high-tech world. She graduated from Saratoga High School, and West Valley College, worked in the business world before marrying and raising a family. While her children were growing up, she kept humorous notes about motherhood, which turned into her first published book, "Motherhood is not for Wimps." When her children started college, she gathered up her notes she'd been keeping about being a Silicon Valley executive's wife and wrote her first novel, "Silicon Secrets," followed by "Desires and Deceptions" and the spy thriller, "Orchids to Die For."

Catherine says she has "lost count" of how many books she has now authored. After many years in the Bay Area and living a bi-country lifestyle, zipping between California and the Caribbean, she headed for her dream cabin in the mountains of the Sierra's in Northern California where she writes, gardens, and has pretty blue eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wealth is "Not" an Empty Virtue, October 26, 2002

Work up that sequel, Catherine. Bang the drum of success over an icy samosa and take a flourished bow -- or two, or three. But please! Don't stop here. Don't rest on the laurels of one lusty story. Go write us more, Kiddo.
Tell us another tale, entertain us anew. You have a gifted knack to express a cornucopia of mundane emotions. The underlying truth of human frailty screams out from the pages of your novel. The real secret in "Silicon Secrets" is the tacit humor that underscores all of mankind's innate needs.
Lucky defines "life" with a nonchalant ease of a rogue savant.
Heather, the struggling child of the cosmos, sees beauty wasted everywhere. A malcontent of wealth and ease, she acts out - screams out - her "sense" of being. She will be, she. Damn the consequences, damn the lofty heritage of Billy Sanger. Ah! Yes. A real artist? But wait...the flower child has breached her natural flow to develop. All of this perfection is flawed. All of Heather's needs are whisked away by the cad and rambler, Lucky.
Wealth is "not" an empty viture. Greed "is" an acceptable vice. Avarics "is" a common goal instilled by developed society.
And just when do you state all this? What words did you pen down for us -- the reader -- to chew up and spit back...into the face of social normalcy? Well?...You did it from word one -- right through to the end. And -- I thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise, January 26, 2003
By
Vern Gentrey (Silicon Valley USA) - See all my reviews

Looking for something to read the other night, I found this gem on my wife's night stand. I didn't have high expectations - a "chick book" - but at least it was set locally. I was wrong! The story moves along - it was a quick read - and I was drawn in by the characters. I cared about Lucky and Heather and enjoyed the twists and turns. I know I've met some of these people and the guessing only added to the fun. When Ms. Burr's next novel comes out, my wife better not leave it laying around if she wants to read it first.
