This is going to seem odd because I am giving this product a 5 star rating, but read through and you will find out why.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure what to make of this
First and foremost let me say I am no culinary expert. Prior to ordering this set I knew little if anything about silicone bakeware. Having said that there are things that one must acknowledge before ordering this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silicone cookware, June 2, 2009

This is going to seem odd because I am giving this product a 5 star rating, but read through and you will find out why.

After I received these I read the directions and followed them in regards to oiling and washing. There was a strange residue left on the surface and I had to rewash several times before it would go away, but it did go away. Also, after the first use of the 'cookie sheet' there was a lot of smoke that came out of my oven from it. No I did not burn my food. Maybe it was that strange residue burning off.

I could do without the spatula, as I already have plenty, and the flat round thing, maybe a trivet or pot holder, and instead have another loaf pan.

After I rewashed and rewashed everything I tried again and made a meatloaf in the loaf pan and some muffins (no paper liner) in the muffin pan and they both came out beautifully. Cooking time was shorter. The muffins just fell out when I tipped them over - wonderful! And the clean up was way too easy it should be a crime. I used the tiny cups to toast some pine nuts and roast some garlic in the oven and they both came out wonderfully with no odor transfer from the garlic into the silicone. I can't wait now to make a two layer cake. Maybe German Chocalate with homemade Butter Frosting! Yum.

I am very happy I purchased this set. No more clanking metal pans that are supposed to be non-stick but never are. I wish I could get some more individual pieces though. I guess I will have to search for them.

I do recommend buying this product but be certain to wash, wash, wash and then use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure what to make of this, July 22, 2010

First and foremost let me say I am no culinary expert. Prior to ordering this set I knew little if anything about silicone bakeware. Having said that there are things that one must acknowledge before ordering this set.

1) There is one piece of paper that comes with this set. It mentions the heat tolerance and a few other details. There are no instructions that come with this other than that.

2) These things smoke for a while. Only purchase these if you are willing to smoke out your house / apartment for a couple of days. I live in an apartment so I was more careful about not setting off the smoke alarm and freaking out the neighbors.

My method on how to stop these things from smoking:

1) Wash all product by hand first
2) Wash in the dishwasher
3) Heat oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit (within tolerance range)
4) In 10-20 minutes they will begin to smoke.
5) I let them smoke a bit, take them out to cool.
6) Repeat from Step 1 until eventually they stop smoking during step 4.

I did this cycle over and over again until these pans stopped smoking. I know it may seem a bit much, but I did not want to risk whatever residue was burning off to make its way into my food. What was necessary to get this bakeware to function properly is beyond the norm and that is why I gave it a reduced star.

I would be more than happy to come back and comment on comments so if people experience similar problems or disagree with my opinion have at it. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this set!!, March 21, 2010

While I also fully agree with the first reviewer, the prepping of the pieces takes some elbow grease, I also love it! These are fantastic for truly non-stick cooking. They are so easy to use and incredibly quick to clean - I will use these (and buy more pieces) for a long, long time. I highly recommend them!

I mostly make cookies, but have used all the pieces at least once. I like them but am having trouble getting over how floppy the items are. I've also had some trouble adjusting to how items seem to bake differently in the silicone, which is something to be aware of before buying.

I did not notice smoke the first time (or any time) I used these pans. I did wash before I used for the first time. So can't really comment on what others said.

Cleaning up is easy.

it is worth the price paid for it. Nothing extra special to get a higher rating, nothing wrong to get a lower rating.

I like this product. Not as much as non stick but I have birds and being non stick is deadly to them I had to find an alternative. I like all the pieces except the cookie sheet. Wish it was a little thicker and not so flexable. But this is a great deal for the amount of items you get!! I would recommend it to anyone!!
