Suspiciously Smelly,

The quality seems lower than similar products I own. The actual silicone of this pan has a more crude finish and heft. That would be alright, but the part that has me worried is the smell. It's a plastic, chemical smell that my other silicone products do not have. Since you bake on high heat with it, the smell makes me question if chemicals will be breaking down or off-gassing into my food. Ingesting toxins is something I'd rather avoid, so it's going back.

I was doubtful at fist of using something that looks so much like plastic to cook in. But I was pleasantly surprised. Unlike metal pans this doesn't rust in the dishwasher. The muffins popped out easily without even using a nonstick spray. And with the number of colors available its easy to match decor. Its a little floppy but by either grabbing both sides or placing it on a flat cookie sheet its easy to work around. I plan to buy many more silicon bakeware products in the future.

We don't like it,

After reviewing a few different silicone muffin pans, I settled on this one for my wife. It was the non-stickability that I was going for. The long and short of it is this thing is no more nonstick than a cactus. I don't know who is giving it positive reviews.I cooked muffins this morning. Banana nut with chocolate chips. I did some in the old metal pan with nonstick spray and some in the silicone pan without spray. I even allowed the muffins in the silicone pan to cool to room temp before trying to take them out. I did use a thin knife to slice around the outside because there was NO WAY they were coming out. I guess if you use a spray in it, then it would probably be nonstick, but doesn't that defeat the point of silicone? Also annoying: It is floppy to the point that you MUST use 2 hands to put in and take out unless you have it sitting on something rigid like a cookie sheet, but I guess that's the nature of silicone.

I do a lot of grain-free baking (using coconut flour or almond meal mostly) & have had a terrible time finding a non-metallic option for muffins. Paper liners stick to the muffins just as bad so unless i'm wanting to eat paper, they're not really an option. I tried stoneware & it was hit or miss & i had to HEAVILY grease the pan every use. I have used this pan 4 times now all with huge success. I do still spray the pan before use, but even with spraying other types of pans would stick like crazy. This one they just slide right out when i flip it upside down.

the best kind of silicone,

I love silicone bakeware and have quite a collection after the last few years' of birthday and Christmas gifts, and some yard-sale/goodwill shopping. I've discovered that there are two types of Silicone bakeware: one type works fine but gets ugly burn-looking marks on it quickly, isn't always non-stick, and requires (according to the directions) greasing each time. I always thought the point of silicone bakeware was saving the extra fat in the recipe by not needing to grease the pan!
This mini muffin pan fits in the second, better category: it stays pretty forever, is very non-stick and easy to clean up, and doesn't have to be greased after a light spray the first use. I have a lot of the pans from the Silicone Solutions collection and they're all this way, so I highly recommend anything they sell. As for this mini muffin pan specifically, it has 12 cups that seem to hold less than the equivalent of 6 cups of a regular pan; maybe 3 or 4 (so the mini-muffins are about 1/3rd or 1/4th the size of a regular muffin). I'm at a high altitude and find that mini-muffins bake more evenly and of course quickly to such a degree that I've stopped baking regular sized muffins! They also make me feel like I ate more without overindulging too bad :-)

I ordered two sets of these after reading several reviews. I didn't have any odd smell and they cook perfectly. What I really like about these pans is that they are really sturdy for silicone and don't have the "floppy" factor that a lot of other silicone pans have. They hold their shape great. I used them twice already (to make brownies and banana bread) and both times turned out great. I haven't tried them in the freezer yet, but I'm sure they will do fine.
