4.0 out of 5 stars More options to use and great for memory!!
I'm looking for one that I can remember which board that belongs to meats, veggies, etc. and have NO-SLIP on back. I see those mats. I never have this filmsy boards before. It mentions about non-skid. They are bit thick than other mats I see. I give them a try. Through the expertiments, I am surprised that I really like them. I have a heavy 4 legged wooden cutting...

2.0 out of 5 stars Printed design comes off!
I've had these mats for about 9 months and their colored designs are rubbing off - they leave traces of silicone all over my counter.

2.0 out of 5 stars Peeling designs, March 6, 2007

This review is from: SiliconeZone Non-Skid Flexible Set Of 4 Picto-Boards, Blue Fish, Yellow Chick, Red Cow, Green Carrot (Kitchen)
These work well as silicone cutting boards, they're thicker than the normal flexible cutting boards which is nice, though they don't fold over as much when you try to use them to funnel the food into a bowl/pan.

My biggest complaint is that I have only used them about a dozen times now and the color designs that are "painted" on the back of the boards are starting to rub off. If they are left leaning against or hanging on a wall the wall get colored streaks from the colored designs rubbing off. It also rubs off on the other boards making you have to make sure it isn't on the cutting surface of the board before you use them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst than worthless, July 29, 2007

As others have mentioned, the coloring came off on the countertop, my wood cutting board, etc. I threw them away today. First, I thought it was heat related, but even chopping cold food resulted in the coloring coming off. My wife used them upside down a few times, so I don't want to think about how we may have injested the coloring. Since it got on my counter top (I needed special cleaner to remove it) and maybe in my GI tract, I rated this product worse than worthless.

3.0 out of 5 stars Functional for Basic Chopping But Definitely Below Expectations Over Time, March 21, 2008
This review is from: SiliconeZone Non-Skid Flexible Set Of 4 Picto-Boards, Blue Fish, Yellow Chick, Red Cow, Green Carrot (Kitchen)
The concept behind these bendable cutting boards is a solid one. Each of the four provided is targeted for a specific food type - meat, poultry, fish and vegetables. They are even color-coded and emblazoned with an appropriate icon so that you make no mistake as to which board you should be using. I've been using mine for the past six months, and I am currently mixed on whether my purchase was worthwhile. On the upside is the portability of the boards, especially for quick chopping jobs. It also minimizes the chances of cross-contamination - easily the best benefit - but only if you are strict about following the color codes. They are also dishwasher-safe from my experience.

Flaws, however, have emerged. First, the color designs on the board show the wear-and-tear of the knives and continue to rub off over time. Second, the so-called "non-skid" feature is not universal. Despite the silicone coating, the board can slide freely on my countertop on occasion and alternatively, can epoxy itself if there is excessive moisture. Third, the silicone has left a sticky residue on the back, which I'm noticing is becoming permanent. Fourth, while the boards have a nice, substantial thickness, the key drawback is that they do not bend as easily as others if you need to pour any chopped food into a mixing bowl. Bottom line, I still use them frequently for kitchen prep, although now as a complement to the more substantial cutting boards I already own.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea...but doesn't quite work, September 5, 2007
By
This review is from: SiliconeZone Non-Skid Flexible Set Of 4 Picto-Boards, Blue Fish, Yellow Chick, Red Cow, Green Carrot (Kitchen)
I love the idea behind these cutting boards, color coding for different types of foods. My complaint is the same as other reviewers, the color rubs off on anything it gets put up against. I'm constantly rewashing these because the color from one has transferred to the cutting surface of another. I'm now looking for a replacement for these.
PROS: good cutting surface, nice thickness
CONS: color rubs off on everthing, not dishwasher safe

I'm looking for one that I can remember which board that belongs to meats, veggies, etc. and have NO-SLIP on back. I see those mats. I never have this filmsy boards before. It mentions about non-skid. They are bit thick than other mats I see. I give them a try. Through the expertiments, I am surprised that I really like them. I have a heavy 4 legged wooden cutting board and love it. But, if I plan to cook with few ingredients, best to use a small board than a trouble to wash on wooden board. I tested the mat on my smooth countertop. It does slip some. I put it on my wooden board, it's so comfortable to cut food on it. It doesn't slip due to surfaces of wooden board. I decide to use "Green Carrot" mat for strong veggies like onion and garlic, so it won't give smells on wooden board. I can do preps on meats and aside them for next turns instead of plates/bowls. Perfect size! About dishwashing, I almost drop it in DW. But, I read thru reviews. I found one reviewer from TARGET mentioned that the silicone(gel) on back does melt in DW. Thank you for this information! I wash them just like I do with Santuko and other knives and some pans/pots. NO problem! Maybe in long run, they won't perform good and I may come back with new review. I give it 4 stars because I'm afraid to put them in Dishwasher and they do slip on smooth surface.

What's the use of silicone backing when it doesn't stay put? I've tried it on cutting boards and direct on counter top without secure holding. Plus, the color comes off, even with only hand-washing. And what's with the shape?? It just gives that much less usable space. I DO like that they're thicker and the edges hold up well, but that's about the only good point.

My wife and I were both very excited to see cutting boards that were color-coded and designed to avoid cross-contamination, but after a couple of weeks of using these boards we are planning on tossing them and replacing them with solid colored boards. The problem is, as other folks have mentioned, that the colored stripes and the graphic in the center peel off the back and leave a mess on your hands, your counters and your sink. The mess is simply not worth it. I will probably buy some solid colored plastic cutting boards and remind myself which color goes with what produce.

5.0 out of 5 stars Convenience and Food Safety, May 6, 2007
This review is from: SiliconeZone Non-Skid Flexible Set Of 4 Picto-Boards, Blue Fish, Yellow Chick, Red Cow, Green Carrot (Kitchen)
These cutting surfaces take up little room, are easily transported for food preparation away from home; and they go in the dishwasher! They are very convenient and help with food safety, especially when preparing chicken, pork and vegetables at the same time.
