1.0 out of 5 stars Am I the only one who thinks this book is crap?
This is the first V. Holt book I've read and I might not make it all the way through. It's colossally stupid and I get the impression that the author read a few paragraphs about silk somewhere and tried to make it fly as a plot. It could have been a good plot but the characters and situations are so far from authentic, the dialogue is awkward and often pointless, and...

This review is from: Silk Vendetta (Library Binding)
Lenore lives and grows up in the house of the Sallongers along with her grandmother whom is very skilled at dressmaking. The Sallongers have had a long time feud with an extended part of their family, the St. Allengeres, about which of the families is the best in the silk making business. When Lenore marries one of the Sallonger sons a mysterious chain of events unfolds involving seduction, greed, murder and revenge. I have only started reading Victoria Holt's books and I am hooked. She is an excellent mystery-romance writer and am determined to read all of her books. I highly recommend her books, especially for those romantics out there.

This is one of Victoria Holt's best. It has a surprise ending, as usual; best of all, it is not full of gruesome images. I am rereading the last half.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, May 23, 2004
This review is from: the silk vendetta (Hardcover)
The Silk Vendetta is one of Victoria Holt's best books. Mixing intrigue, mystery, romance and suspense, she weaves a compelling tale round the heroine Lenore, who grows up at The Silk House. The background of the silk trade is engrossing, and Lenore's character is compelling as she deals with the two men in her life, Philip - likeable and kindhearted- and Charles, as cruel as he is handsome. But as always with Victoria Holt, all is not as it seems, and Lenore has to go through a succession of adventures before finding true love. If you like your romances sevred up with plenty of adventure, then read this book. If you've read other Victoria Holt books then you'll know what I mean, and if you haven't, you're in for a treat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the Best Victoria Holt, but Still Pretty Good!, September 26, 2003
Lenore lives in "The Silk House" with her grandmother at the top floor. They aren't servants, but they aren't family. The owners of the Silk House are silk makers vying against a rival family in France. Lenore falls in love and marries one of the sons of the house, but he commits suicide right after the marriage. Or did he? His brother wants her, too, but she will have none of it. She opens a dressmaking shop in London, hoping to escape the past, but she soon learns that she can never escape the silk vendetta.

This Victoria Holt book isn't as interesting as the others. There is also a part with a dog dying that bothers me (I am very sensitive in regard to cruelty to animals). Also, the "bad-guy" is really obvious. Still, it is a good read and I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Silk Vandetta, December 9, 1999
By
melanie (Chardon, Ohio) - See all my reviews
The two main characters in The Silk Vandetta by Victoria Holt are Lenore and her grandmother. They spent all their lives together. They were the only real family they had. One incident that made me really like the book was when Lenore's grandmother found Lenore's father. Lenore then met her father for the first time in her life. When her father found out that she wanted to open a branch of her clothing shop in Paris but she and her grandmother didn't have the money to do it, her father offered to pay for all the expences. At first her pride kept her from letting him pay. But after time her grandmother and sister-in-law wore her down. She then accepted the money from her father so that she could live out her dream. This book took me in from the first page. I love the discription. The scenes it describes seem to jump off the page and into reality. The charcters are so lovable and real. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance and suspence.

This is the first V. Holt book I've read and I might not make it all the way through. It's colossally stupid and I get the impression that the author read a few paragraphs about silk somewhere and tried to make it fly as a plot. It could have been a good plot but the characters and situations are so far from authentic, the dialogue is awkward and often pointless, and the plot is beyond predictable. The one good thing about this book is that it is so massively amateurish yet obviously popular that I think I might just have a career in writing romance novels. They couldn't be any worse than this. I'm going to give another Holt book a try just in case this one is an awful fluke.

This one of the most beautifully written stories I have read , I was hooked on this book , really it is amazing. This is the book that started my obession . Lenore is such a beautiful character and Philip is the ideal husband. But it is a tradegy that he dies. It isn't until she unravels his murder, she is able to settle down.
