5.0 out of 5 stars This is actually one of their better albums
Though Silk's self-titled album went gold, it was considered a disappointment for fans who still wanted that "freak me, baby" flavor. So for those fans, the only song that really gets to that level, "I Can Go Deep" (from "A Low Down Dirty Shame" OST), is perfect baby-making music. But I actually like it when they DON'T talk about making love, like on the incredible...

3.0 out of 5 stars It All Depends On What Your Looking For
Aside from hip-hop R&B by the mid 90's much of R&B was getting softer and winding up more and more in a box. What made Silk stand out on their first album was the fact that they had a much tougher sound than any of their contempories. When this sophmore set came out a couple years later the game had very much changed for them. The band not only now had an image that...

But I actually like it when they DON'T talk about making love, like on the incredible ballads, "It's So Good", "Because of Your Love", "What Kind of Love is This" and especially the Gerald Levert-penned "Don't Go to Bed Mad". Add this to your Silk, and R&B, collection.

The follow-up release to Lose Control, this CD is actually better than the first! Several gems like "Don't Rush", "Don't Go TO Bed Mad", and "Because of Your Love" make this the perfect CD for romantics.

5.0 out of 5 stars 11 well written adn sung tracks are why you should buy it, July 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Silk (Audio CD)
In stark contrast to their first cd, Silk uses beautiful love ballads to showcase their vocal talent. The only song that even resembles the "old" Silk is "I can go deep", which is from the "Low Down Dirty Shame" soundtrack and really doesn't fit in with the rest of the songs. The songs are very powerful and heartfelt and you will find yourself singing them or at least relating to them. The lyric evoke emotions from the listener and this proves that the group has grown up. Silk has traded flash for substance and the result is success. Why this album wasn't well recieved I do not know. But, I do no that this record proves Silk belongs at the top of today's R&B groups.

5.0 out of 5 stars I REALLY LIKE " I CAN GO DEEP "!, October 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Silk (MP3 Download)
Yes, it is better than the first! Silk seemed to mature and their delivery is more relaxed. The song I CAN GO DEEP is bold and Lil G's vocal lead just oozes with soulfulness. Brilliantlly written too. There are other gems too and I like the fact that they were not trying to duplicate the same formula as their debut which is the mistake many artists make. Even better than the debut in my opinion - way better!

3.0 out of 5 stars It All Depends On What Your Looking For, October 14, 2010
This review is from: Silk (Audio CD)
Aside from hip-hop R&B by the mid 90's much of R&B was getting softer and winding up more and more in a box. What made Silk stand out on their first album was the fact that they had a much tougher sound than any of their contempories. When this sophmore set came out a couple years later the game had very much changed for them. The band not only now had an image that included matching hairstyles and suits but their vocal harmonies were a lot tighter and more intricate than before and those are the pluses of the album. Where the album might have some divided listeners comes with the musical itself. While "Don't Go To Bed Mad" gets some help in terms of vocals and writing of Gerald Levert the majority of this album is all very much of a piece. And that piece is all very much in the sugary sweet LA Reid/Babyface style mid 90's R&B balladeering in which on song after song Silk are now sacrificing their strong sexual energy they had in the beginning to completely emasculate themselves to fawn over a girl. Not that it's a man's job to be masochists by any means but in terms of the soul/R&B group/soloist vocal style the image of pride and self assuradness seemed to be replaced at this point by drooling lewdness or...frankly just plain wimpiness and, both lyrically and musically the latter is how Silk presented themselves here. It's very much stereotypical R&B of the era compared to what they presented on their debut and obviously squarely aimed at a specific type of young female audience. Trouble was this left Silk with very little that set them apart from any of the other male R&B groups of the era. Even the two more uptempo tunes "Hooked On You" and "Remember Me",while very well crafted and easily as melodic and harmony rich as everything else here just don't have the type of rhythmic strengh under them to help them survive much past one or two listens. Now while it's important for any group to expand their sound it should'nt come at too high a sacrifice to their own identity, especially if commercial considerations are a hight priority and that seems to be what happens here.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest, August 31, 2010
This review is from: Silk (Audio CD)
SILK IS A GREAT GROUP THAT DIDNT GET THE AIRTIME AND PROMOTION RIGHTS THEY DESERVED. THIS IS ONE OF THE GROUPS THAT MADE GREAT MUSIC AND HAD ONE OF THE GREATEST R&B SINGERS OF ALL TIME TO BACK THEM UP. (KEITH SWEAT)THIS CD IS ONE OF THE BEST THAT THEY MADE AND HOPEFULLY DOWN THE LINE THEY HAVE A CONCERT.

The song Because of your love is an outstanding song. My wife and I used it as our wedding song 15 years ago and it is still our song.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definite Collector's Item......., April 10, 2008
This review is from: Silk (Audio CD)
Their second self titled released, SILK, follows along the lines of other R&B groups of the time. But the love songs on this set are of a higher quality as compared to their R&B competition. Songs like, Because of Your Love, It's So Good, Don't Rush, and the chart topping hit, I Can Go Deep, as well as Don't Cry For Me, are excellent. Purchase this disc, put it in your I-POD, home system, or car, and the each song play. It will take you back to a better time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Remember Silk, December 11, 2007
This review is from: Silk (Audio CD)
I bought this on tape when it was first released and years later bought the CD. I really enjoyed this album and it deserves a good listen from fans of R&B. Vocally Silk can't be matched. This group was formed back when all members of a group were required to know how to sing. Remember those days?. Jonathon's falsettos are lovely, Gary is one of the strongest singers in R&B and his range is incredible. My fave tracks are Remember Me, What Kind of Love is This, and Now that I've lost you. Every track on this disc is worth listening to. Spend the 10 bucks and you will get more than your money's worth.
