St. Giles is Golden in Silken Shadows!,
This review is from: Silken Shadows (Killdaren Series) (Paperback)
A historical paranormal that pits a ghostwhisperer against an evil entity and comes out as one of the best mystery books I've read in a long time! Gemini wants to use her secret power to speak to the dead in order to help stop some terrible murders. She stows away on Dev's ship where their romance starts to heat up. Dev is haunted in his own way and Gemini looks to help him with his own ghosts while he looks to help her get back home safe. He is not happy to have her wanting to work on a murder and they battle the whole thing out through most of the voyage. I love the paranormal element in this and the mystery to it. It really kept me guessing right up to the end. Jennifer St. Giles is a talented author and has many more books you should try!The Shadowmen: Touch A Dark Wolf (Book 1)

This review is from: Silken Shadows (Killdaren Series) (Paperback)
Jennifer St. Giles has written a novel which I thought I would never enjoy because it involves paranormal elements and is told in first person. Yet I have to say I was captivated by this story. Her leading lady is an amazing heroine.
Gemini sees ghosts and has since she was a little girl. When women are viscously killed, Gemini knows she can be of assistance. Her great love is Dev Jansen, a ship captain who is also searching for the killer. Gemini sneaks aboard his ship to assist in this quest and it becomes a voyage to remember. This is a truly romantic and passionate couple. Gemini fully explores her love for the captain and when they team together to solve the murders, Dev becomes quite the knight in shining armor. Even though told in first person I felt I knew Dev by the heroine's insights into his character. Gemini is fearless but not reckless; she and Dev work together to solve the murders. They are imminently loyal to each other. Additionally Gemini wants to clear Dev's name tied to a scandal that occurred years earlier and with the help of a couple of funny and protective ghosts she sets out to prove that Dev is the honorable man she knows him to be. This book is stellar and Gemini is admirable in her selfless nature. She undergoes both physical and mental anguish to help find the murderer and she is determined that no one else will suffer under his madness. With Dev by her side they seem unconquerable and their passionate natures went way beyond the physical to encompass all areas of their lives.

Gothic Romance,

This review is from: Silken Shadows (Killdaren Series) (Paperback)
The novel starts with a series of Jack the Ripper type deaths, and a beautiful young woman with extraordinary power to talk to ghost. The love story is so beautifully told you hate to see the book end. You cheer for the heroine and the hero. It is a gothic novel like no other leaving the reader wanting more and more.....thank goodness there is a series!
Jennifer St. Giles has outdone herself, she is up there with Margaret Mitchell, Sadie Montgomery and Diana Gabaldon!

In the first handful of pages, too many names and memories are thrown at the reader causing confusion. Restarting the book helped, once passed this little shuffle the story screams excitement.

Gemini Andrews, the youngest sister of Cassie Killdaren and Andrie Killdaren, has a unique gift; she can see ghosts. And that's not the worst of it. She actually experiences their death, especially if it was violent. This ability has led to the capture of a vicious killer, who had at least 4 victims, one of whom was Gemini's cousin, Mary. She has set her cap for the charismatic Dev Jansen, captain of Alex Killdaren's ship the Black Dragon, even though he has let her know that he has nothing to offer her. So, when 2 more women disappear and the body of one is discovered under similar circumstances to those murdered at Dartmoor's End, Gemini decides to stow away on the Black Dragon in an attempt to help locate the killer. But she doesn't understand the superstitions of sailors at sea, and when she is discovered during a storm, Dev feels compelled to marry her in order to prevent her from being thrown overboard as the cause of the storm. Worst of all, he believes she is lying (or insane) when she insists she can communicate with ghosts, including the 2 that are always with Dev. Feeling that his dishonor and dark reputation make him an improper husband for Gemini, he plans to have their unconsummated marriage annulled as soon as they dock in Northrope, the site of the latest murders. But Gemini has other plans, which could clear Dev's name and lead to the discovery of a sadistic serial killer.
St. Giles' stories get better and better! "Silken Shadows", the 3rd book in the Killdaren series which could easily stand alone, surpasses both previous offerings. Gemini is far and away the most interesting and passionate of the Andrews sisters, at least in my opinion. All of these characters have grown over the course of the 3 books, especially Gemini who has gone from an immature girl only interested in the latest fashions to a young woman who sees what she wants and goes after it. I would love to see further offerings in this series. This classic gothic romance satisfies anything the reader could want from a story of this type, and the paranormal twist makes these books better than "the same old thing". Bravo Jennifer!!

engaging paranormal romantic suspense,
This review is from: Silken Shadows (Killdaren Series) (Paperback)
In 1880 Gemmi Andrews has the uncanny ability to see and hear ghosts. Her skill helps the cops catch Jack "the Ripper" Poole.
However, not long afterward, a series of homicides occur that use the same MO as serial killer Poole; there is only one problem with accusing him of more murders: he is dead. Some assume is a copy cat while others believe Poole is murdering people from beyond the grave. Because of her "gift" Gemmi knows either theory could be correct so she is determined to learn the truth. She sneaks onto Captain Deverell Jansen's ship, but is found. The stowaway and the captain are attracted to one another, but when he perceives she is in danger, he insists they marry so he can keep her safe. As the newlyweds fall in love, she relives each homicide as if she is the victim. SILKEN SHADOWS is an engaging paranormal romantic suspense starring a likable intrepid heroine who uses her gift to help others and an honorable hero who risks his life to keep his beloved safe. The story line is fast-paced but the hook that grips readers is whether Poole has somehow returned form the dead or from beyond, or is a copy cat on the loose. Fans will also feel for Gemmi who "sees" each homicide first hand. Jennifer St. Giles is at her best with this frightening serial killer thriller. Harriet Klausner |
