Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYATE 420 20-Feet #372-42 is a state-of-the-art, heavy-duty, aluminum telescoping pole saw - the pole saw of choice by professionals. Thick aluminum alloy extension poles are oval shaped, providing precise control over the direction of the blade (especially important for high cutting) thus reducing bending to the minimum. The base pole has a pole-end shock absorber and comfortable rubberized overgrip. The 16-21/2-inch curved blade utilizes proprietary Silky MIRAI-ME (Smooth Cutting) Technology - The Teeth of the Future! The precision-ground, razor-sharp, super-aggressive teeth with four cutting angles provide extremely fast cutting action. The taper-ground profile reduces drag and directs more usable energy to the cutting edge. The blade features replaceable lower sickle for small branches and undercutting bark. HAYATE is manufactured with high visibility colors and comes equipped with a new advanced design sheath with a built-in carrying handle. It is ideal for pruning large branches at higher position without ever climbing a ladder. This is the strongest and fastest telescoping pole saw available on the market today. Made in Japan. To allow effective use of HAYATE pole saws, two locking systems are incorporated to assure structural rigidity of the extended poles: 1) locking pins/buttons - the primary pole locking mechanism; and 2) friction clamps - the secondary pole locking mechanism. The two systems are designed to work together. This dual locking system allows 100% of the effort at the handle to be effectively transferred to the blade up to 21 feet away. Spring-loaded locking buttons allow multiple length adjustments and safety friction clamps hold the extensions firmly in place. Safety considerations require that the pole saw user must wear a hard hat and eye protection at all times. Manufacturer Warning: Do not use aluminum telescoping pole saws around electrical power lines or equipment. Electrical shock may result. Incorrect use of the Silky pole saw may cause injury.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly an incredible pole saw, October 17, 2005
I gasped when I first saw the price, but after reading many excellent reviews, I decided to bite the bullet and buy the 20 ft Hayate pole saw.
The day it arrived, I couldn't wait to try it - WOW! I cut 4-5" branches, hanging over my home with very little effort. I am in my 60's and was concerned about the weight, but this saw has been a pleasure to work with. I feel safe, standing on the ground and find it very easy to prune large limbs.
The silky people stress, "let the saw do the work". This saw works on the PULL, not on the push, which makes is effortless.
Although this is probably designed for professional arborists, if you have a lot of trees and wind/ice as I do in New England, buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Silky Hayate 420 Review - a great pole saw indeed!, November 2, 2008

This review is from: Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYATE 420 20-Feet 372-42 (Lawn & Patio)
First, my background. I keep about 10 miles of trails open for walking and cross country skiing, and have worked part time at two of the top 10 XC ski centers in the US. Trail grooming includes not only the snow, but keeping branches out of everyones faces. To that extent I've used axes, bow saws, other pole saws, and power pruners (powered pole saws - essentially a small chain saw bar on the end of a long pole). For my personal use, the Silky is the best compromise - light, VERY long reach (much longer than a power pole saw), and cheaper than a powered pole saw. Less parts to break, too!

I've also been shocked how well the blade cuts. I use a chain saw a lot, and in hardwood up to 6" or so I'd guess the Hayate is just as fast. It's amazing. Nice clean cut too (concern for the health of the tree). I've never really liked bow saws in the past, as I've found a sharp ax much quicker...but this saw has won me over to "razor" type tooth saws, and I have a folding hand saw as well, and plan to add another to my trail clearing tools.

It is NOT the cheapest saw out there, that's for sure, but is a quality tool that if taken care of will last a long, long time, and therefore gives the best value over the long term.

The telescoping bits work better than any pole saw I've used yet in terms of stability. My only complaint is that it is rather long (around 8') when in it's "closed" (but blade on) position. I hope Silky comes out with a 6' (closed) Hayate that extends to 12' or so - that would be just as good for most folks. When i do need the full 20' reach though, it is REALLY nice to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Great Pole Saw, June 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYATE 420 20-Feet 372-42 (Lawn & Patio)
This is a great saw. Cut branches without strain, and very reliable! 5 Stars. I trimmed branches that have been unreachable for years! 40 trees pruned in 3 days. I was able to use the saw for hours with bits of rest in between. I ordered a second blade in case I mess this one up, but so far it has stayed sharp and efficient at going through the limbs. I have cut several 5 to 6 inch in diameter branches. There is a learning curve with the saw, but it has become my most valuable tool in maintaining the forest in my backyard. I have a 16 foot pole chain saw that is simply too heavy to use for long periods of time, and can't reach the heights that this one can. The seller was very helpful and the product came quickly after ordering.
