Truly an incredible pole saw,
By The day it arrived, I couldn't wait to try it - WOW! I cut 4-5" branches, hanging over my home with very little effort. I am in my 60's and was concerned about the weight, but this saw has been a pleasure to work with. I feel safe, standing on the ground and find it very easy to prune large limbs. The silky people stress, "let the saw do the work". This saw works on the PULL, not on the push, which makes is effortless. Although this is probably designed for professional arborists, if you have a lot of trees and wind/ice as I do in New England, buy it!

Silky Hayate 420 Review - a great pole saw indeed!,

This review is from: Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYATE 420 20-Feet 372-42 (Lawn & Patio)
First, my background. I keep about 10 miles of trails open for walking and cross country skiing, and have worked part time at two of the top 10 XC ski centers in the US. Trail grooming includes not only the snow, but keeping branches out of everyones faces. To that extent I've used axes, bow saws, other pole saws, and power pruners (powered pole saws - essentially a small chain saw bar on the end of a long pole). For my personal use, the Silky is the best compromise - light, VERY long reach (much longer than a power pole saw), and cheaper than a powered pole saw. Less parts to break, too!
I've also been shocked how well the blade cuts. I use a chain saw a lot, and in hardwood up to 6" or so I'd guess the Hayate is just as fast. It's amazing. Nice clean cut too (concern for the health of the tree). I've never really liked bow saws in the past, as I've found a sharp ax much quicker...but this saw has won me over to "razor" type tooth saws, and I have a folding hand saw as well, and plan to add another to my trail clearing tools. It is NOT the cheapest saw out there, that's for sure, but is a quality tool that if taken care of will last a long, long time, and therefore gives the best value over the long term. The telescoping bits work better than any pole saw I've used yet in terms of stability. My only complaint is that it is rather long (around 8') when in it's "closed" (but blade on) position. I hope Silky comes out with a 6' (closed) Hayate that extends to 12' or so - that would be just as good for most folks. When i do need the full 20' reach though, it is REALLY nice to have.

This is a great saw. Cut branches without strain, and very reliable! 5 Stars. I trimmed branches that have been unreachable for years! 40 trees pruned in 3 days. I was able to use the saw for hours with bits of rest in between. I ordered a second blade in case I mess this one up, but so far it has stayed sharp and efficient at going through the limbs. I have cut several 5 to 6 inch in diameter branches. There is a learning curve with the saw, but it has become my most valuable tool in maintaining the forest in my backyard. I have a 16 foot pole chain saw that is simply too heavy to use for long periods of time, and can't reach the heights that this one can. The seller was very helpful and the product came quickly after ordering.

This is an amazing tool, fantastic construction with very high quality. The blade is razor sharp and cuts like nothing I've ever seen, the teeth are precision shaped to only cut the branch on the down stroke. With a 20+ ft reach I've cut branges from 1" to 8" with minimal effort. I highly recommend this pole saw.

Fantastic Tool,
This review is from: Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYATE 420 20-Feet 372-42 (Lawn & Patio)
Phenomenal tool. I loved it from the first use. Very capable of making cuts. I broke a saw when it was jammed between a falling branch and rest of the limb. Got it replaced ($$) but overall, I am very pleased with it. It exceeded my expectations for such a primitive tool. It doesn't flex or bend excessively, and few strokes and the thickest branch is gone.
I highly recommend it though it is not cheap, but if you want to get the job done and want durability and life time use, buy this pole saw.

I've used a number of pole saws over the years and this one makes the others look feeble by comparison. It's design is super strong and extension components operate with ease. It's a tad heavy when fully extended but not to the degree that it compromises the service it provides.

Silky Telescoping saw,

This is a beautiful saw, with incredible reach. But it is very heavy. If you don't need to reach 20 feet, get the shorter version!

An arborist quoted me $400 to trim some BIG high up branches that were getting close to the house. I'm talking up to ten inch diameter, long, heavy suckers.Instead I used that money to buy this saw, an electric chain saw for cutting up logs, and a big breakfast. Still had money left for cold doctor peppers to drink while working. Right out of the box I could tell this was a quality well thought out product. Feels good in your hands. Somehow feels both light AND sturdy. Using it was a breeze. I extended it all 20 feet and had no problems lifting and maneuvering it way up there. An added bonus of the long length is that you don't have to stand right under the branches you are cutting. You can be off to the side and out of harms way. Cutting was almost an afterthought. The saw cuts on the pull motion, which makes it super easy and gives you alot of advantage. Just gently push and pull and the saw will do the work for you. For less than the cost of one job from an arborist I instead bought a saw that (it turns out) can do everything he was going to do, do it EASILY, and will last someone like me a lifetime. I win. |
