Great book for kids!,
This review is from: Silly Dog Tricks: Fun for You and Your Best Friend (Spiral-bound)
I wanted a guide for my kids to use when teaching our dog some tricks to show off to their friends, and I'm really impressed with this book! They're having a lot of fun with it, and our dog is loving all of the attention. The tricks range from simple to slightly more involved, and the descriptions are easy to understand. Plus, they love the clicker and toys that came with it. =-) It was a great value - definitely recommend it!

Not Silly at All,
By The author first establishes basic routines and tricks before introducing what she calls silly tricks. I'd call them fancy or advanced tricks, things like ringing a doorbell, playing dead, rolling a barrel, or looking in a mirror. Mainly the author stresses consistency, rewards, and limited training times. For us getting the included sqeaker and clicker is an added bonus. The text is easy to understand and the illustrations are both humorous and motivating. Though ostensibly a book for kids, this book can be just as helpful for a training challenged adult or Potato Head.

I first found the book "Silly Dog Tricks" by Caroline Coile in our library when searching for books I could use with our 4-H Dog Project kids. After reviewing over a dozen books, this title stood out as the most descriptive, easily read and well written book on the subject of teaching tricks to dogs, especially for kids. Ms Coile does an excellent job of explaining how to train the dog step-by-step in a simple, precise manner that both children and adults should be able to do successfully. Each trick is accompanied by clever illustrations. Her "Notes to Parents" & "Tricks of the Trade" are very well-written and offer a unique insight on positive reinforcement training. Ms Coile also offers suggestions for dealing with several behavior problems often encountered by dog owners.
If you should come across this book, I would strongly suggest at least reading it. If you have a dog or work with kids & dogs, I would definitely advise you to add this book to your personal library. It deserves a place there! |
