5.0 out of 5 stars For silly fans!, October 21, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Silly Songs With Larry (Audio CD)
Silly Songs with Larry are just hilarious in all the Veggie Tales videos! My almost 3 year old LOVES Silly songs, they got him hooked on Veggie Tales completely and there's nothing wrong with that!

This CD has

The Water Buffalo Song
The Hairbrush Song
The Dance of the Cucumber
Love My Lips
The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything
The Song of the Cebu
His Cheeseburger
The Yodeling Veternarian of the Alps
Endangered Love
Larry's High Silk Hat

And Bonus Tracks...
Lost Puppies
Oh Santa!
Do the Moo Shoo
Silly Song Remix Medley

I highly recommend this to anyone with toddlers and preschoolers. But my husband, our 11 year old and our "mother's helper" all LOVE these songs too!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Addition to Any Collection; BIG or small!, November 21, 2002
By
RitaLee (Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silly Songs With Larry (Audio CD)
A fast paced, high pitched, fun for all; "Silly Songs with Larry" delivers everything you expect from a CD for kids. All fourteen tracks, including three bonus tracks and a remix are well written with lyrics that are easy to understand and sing-along to. All of the tracks are based on absolute nonsense and are simply silly. Larry, a cucumber, sings all but one of the songs and throughout the CD is accompanied by a variety of different vegetables. Silly Songs with Larry is a segment that appears in the "Veggie Tales" cartoon created by the Big Ideas production company. Each song has a different tune and, of course, a different set of lyrics. Every track has a minimum of one line that is repeated throughout the song, so that children can sing along almost right away.
The first song, "The Water Buffalo Song" is a very short, banjo accompanied piece with a clear message to Larry to "stop being so silly," a suitably silly beginning to a CD of silly songs. "The Hairbrush Song" is a classical piece, with a sad story about Larry's missing hairbrush and the importance of sharing in the foreground. In the "Dance of the Cucumber" Larry performs a "traditional Argentinean ballad" in Spanish, while his friend Bob, the tomato, translates. This is one of the high points of the CD; since Larry ends up having Bob translate parts of the song that bluntly insult the tomato. This song makes good use of the repetition mentioned earlier. Most of the second verse is the first verse with one or two words having been changed. This is a longer song and is also fun for the parents. The fourth track, "I Love my Lips" is Larry's tribute to his lips and is also a strong contribution to the album. Like the first song it also has a strong banjo element in the background. This song has a lot of repetition, and an inspiring interlude of the sound that any kid can make by humming and running their pointer finger over their lips. "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" is a lot of fun the first few times you hear it, but is a song you don't want to get stuck in your head. Larry stuns the vegetables with his multimedia brilliance with "The song of the Cébu" by using a catchy tune to help you forget that you have no idea what a cébu is. "His Cheeseburger", one of the two "love songs" on this CD is about a man and his love for a cheeseburger. The main message of this song is one about patience, singing about a man who waits all night in a drive-thru to get his cheeseburger. "The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps" is, as expected, a cute yodel about a veterinarian who has "gone a little loopy" and is receiving a lot of help from his secretary. He takes credit for her work, and refuses to give her a raise, so it ends up putting the veterinarian in a rather silly predicament when it comes to one of his patients. Larry is a big fan of the "Endangered Love" soap opera, and is in love with the main character from the show, Barbara Manatee. Throughout the song Larry professes his love to Barbara while he watches the show. Larry's professions are what make this the second silly love song on the album. The final track is another classically backed piece, about "Larry's High Silk Hat" is the only "Classy song with Larry" on the disk. It is a longer piece that is also very repetitive and talks about how classy Larry feels when he is wearing his high silk hat. The three bonus tracks are shorter and are also very funny, although "Lost Puppies" is the only track that Larry doesn't sing. "Oh Santa" and "Do the Moo Shoo" round out the bonus tracks and are just a funny as the first ten. The remix is the perfect way to end the CD and contains part of all ten of the regular tracks from the "Silly Songs with Larry" soundtrack. It has a techno sound and is fun to dance to.
The main strength of this album is the creativity of the writers of these songs. Every song has unique lyrics and, as such, each song sounds very different. The songs are easy to sing to and fun to dance to. They all teach important lessons, like sharing, patience and respect. While the songs are all silly, they are also more then that, fun and educational.
The main weakness of this, or any children's album, is that any child will want to listen to is over and over. The CD is relatively short, and from an adult perspective, may get annoying and repetitive after it has been played for the umpteenth time. However, if alternated with other children's music, it would be an excellent way to pass the time during a boring car ride or even to make a wait seem shorter.
I own this CD, and I do not have any children. I think that this CD would be a welcome addition to anyone with a good sense of humor with the occasional need to unwind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gratiutous Humor, October 13, 2002
This review is from: Silly Songs With Larry (Audio CD)
The video version of this hooked me, but I couldn't play a video in my car.

Unashamedly from Christian starting point, the Veggie Tales guys collected a bunch of ridiculous 'silly songs'. By no means is this a complete set, but it could be a good primer, along with "Veggie Tunes."

These are the songs which enamored fans worldwide, the ones who flocked to see Jonah. For those who didn't 'get' why Larry and and the gang are so instantly popular, they'll discover there has been nothing instant about the success. They've been around for years, hiding undercover in the open.

Heard the song "The Pirates Who Don't do Anything"? Here is the original. Its sociology commentary on those church members who are stuck to the pews is biting (or, at least, that's what I got out of it). For me, "I Love My Lips," set in part to the tune of the "William Tell Overture," is my favorite: completely goofy, and catchy.

The wit of "The Song of Cebu" and fun of "The Yodeling Veterarian Of The Alps" will show you why "Veggie Tales: Silly Songs With Larry" is commanding a deep following in high schools and colleges, as well as little kids.

I fully recommend "Veggie Tales: Silly Songs With Larry."

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Hysterical!, February 22, 2004

This review is from: Silly Songs With Larry (Audio CD)
Okay, this is about the funniest cd I've ever heard. I particularly like "Oh where is my hairbrush." However, since there is a bunch of talking in this cd, it may not be as much for toddlers as something else like the Wiggles. It doesn't hold the attention of my toddler, even though he LOVES watching veggie tales videos. If you've had a very bad day at work, just pop in this cd and boy, do things of this world fade away in laughter!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST CHILDREN'S CD, December 5, 2003
By
This review is from: Silly Songs With Larry (Audio CD)
We received the Silliest Songs Countdown Video as a gift and loved it so much we had to buy the CD for the car. We love the songs almost as much as our 2-year old. We play them all the time. Our friends (with or without children) who hear the songs usually buy or download the music b/c they like it so much.

Although Veggie Tales usually have Christian messages, these songs are applicable to anyone of any race or religion.

I recommend this for anyone with kids looking for some new fun music. It is definately not your 'typical' children's CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not ashamed to sing along...., November 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Silly Songs With Larry (Audio CD)
I bought this CD with reservation as it was our first children's musical purchase. I hate to admit that I love the songs almost more than my 20m daughter. We both enjoy this CD during our shared commute and I can't wait to find more like it!

Silly songs is right, but they're tolerable for adults too. If only I could get them out of my head....

I am 31 years old and, unabashadly, love this cd. I first heard this cd from a friend's four year old daughter, and I absolutely loved it. The tunes are great and fun to sing along to. Having no children of my own, I still felt compelled to buy this cd just to make me laugh. I highly recommend this for anyone from the ages of 2 to 102.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Alway Time for Silly Songs with Larry, February 1, 2002

Here is the CD that Silly Song fans have been wanting. It includes all 10 of the official Silly Songs featured on the Ultimate Silly Song Countdown Video in their original release order. It also contains four additional tracks, "Lost Puppies" (from Esther), "Oh Santa" (the Silly Song from the Christmas video), "Do the Moo Shoo" (from the Countdown video), and the "Silly Song Remix Medley" from the closing credits of the same video.

It's great to have these songs all on the same CD. I'm a recent Veggie convert, and this has allowed me to collect and learn all the silly songs without much effort, especially since the tunes are so catchy. True, the songs were originally created for video, but if you've seen the videos, they don't loose that much here.

The best part of these songs is their randomness. They have an internal logic that is all their own. And they aren't any more then they pretend to be - fun.

Veggie fans have their favorite Silly Songs, but now you don't have to choose. Go buy this CD and enjoy all the silliness you can stand.

4.0 out of 5 stars For Christians and Non-Christians, the one to get, except...., February 3, 2007
This review is from: Silly Songs With Larry (Audio CD)
sigh, 'The Bunny Song' is on the other compilaiton (which is my mind is not as good as this one.) I'm not a Christian, but I did grow up going to Sunday School where we watched many of the Veggie Tale films. This is a good group of songs for toddlerrs/little kids/ or teens and adults wishing to have simple songs stuck in their head all day. For Christians the songs are a good reminder for the kids throughout the week, and for non-christians wishing to expand their collection without being "preached" at throughout the cd, this is a nice collection.
for those concerned about the content, lyrics are provided on various lyric websites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shockingly enjoyable!, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Silly Songs With Larry (Audio CD)
I never thought I would be able to tolerate this CD, but I actually enjoy it. The kids LOVE it and we listen to it in the car too. The music is catchy and the lyrics are rather funny. Definite thumbs-up for kids' music. My two-year-old enjoys it just as much as the five-year-old.
