It's a well-made and handy thing to have while on vacation and at home!

With a compact design and a smooth operating compass, plus a roughly accurate thermometer, it's extremely useful.

Compass is excellent and always works very accurate however has no liquid inside and thus tilts its needle.

We brought this with us to Scotland and the temperature gauge came in very handy -- converting Fahrenheit to Celsius. It's a well-made and handy thing to have while on vacation and at home!

Compass is excellent and always works very accurate however has no liquid inside and thus tilts its needle. If not horzontally flat enough so you adjust til lays flat and needle is evenly horizontal. Thermometer is off in high temps but DOES lower according to
Lower temps. The key chain hole is away from tip abit farther which means Its difficult to add a keyring. So follow this adjust strategy:

Mine is actually 10-15 degrees higher than actual local temp. Just like
Casio digital thermometer is usually 10-18 degrees off actual temp.
So 85 degrees (my thermomter) minus the declination
(minus 10) = 65 degree (actual reading)

Sometimes needle gets stuck and needs shaking - otherwise pretty good for keychain compass/termo. Windchill table should be more readable.

Actually I also keep one in each of our two cars. Yes the compass needs to be held flat and any thermometer that small can only be expected to provide a ballpark temperature. But Silva products are top-of-the-line and for the price this compass is a superb value! Notice that the 'key ring' is made of brass, i.e. non-magnetic, whereas a typical steel ring would cause compass error. When I travel I carry it on a lanyard that is secured to my belt with the compass in my front pocket. Along with the compass the lanyard also has a small but very loud Attwood Flat Safety Whistle - US$2, Check out at:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003DJUUEG/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have had my compass for about 7 years, and it is still working great, despite living in my pocket on a key chain the entire time. I would say I use this more in cities than I do outdoors. What I mean is when I visit a new city, or part of town I am not too familiar with, I can look at a map ahead of time, and this will help me find my way based on what I learned from the map. For example, if I can see from the map that once I get out of the subway station, I need to head East until I get to another landmark I know about, this compass will help me at least get going in the right direction. I feel that this helps me learn new areas quickly, instead of just making me rely on a GPS all the time. I also like having this in my hand instead of a cell phone/GPS when I'm obviously wandering around a big city for the first time. So far this seems to be accurate in big cities as well, and does not appear to pick up too much magnetic interference. The thermometer is glass, and eventually broke in my pocket, but was nice to have, and seemed to work well. As mentioned in the description, there is a basic windchill table on the back, and it is has faded a bit, but is still very legible despite all these years of being in my pocket, which is nice. Overall, this is a great product!!

For the price, this little compass does it's job. I have one attached to everyone's 72 hour kit. I'm sure this would be great hanging in your car as well.
