From Booklist

Brianna Paxton feels invisible. Guys look right through her, especially when compared to her beautiful best friend, Haley. Settled firmly into her sidekick niche, she consoles herself with horseback riding, math, and science. But when Brie’s heirloom bracelet breaks and falls off, her true beauty is unveiled and her crush, Blake, finally sees her. They discover that their ancestors were ancient enemies; Brie is a descendant of the Irish goddess Danu, who holds the power of fire in the palm of her hand, while Blake is a son of Killian, destined to kill any daughter of Danu. The two are magically soul-bound and battle to rise above their destinies and become more than star-crossed lovers. Vance’s debut contrasts a contemporary California setting with Celtic mythology, adding dimension to Brie’s struggle to come to terms with her growing supernatural powers. A large cast of gorgeous, yet underdeveloped, male characters pave the way for further books in a projected series where demigods vacillate between extreme desires to love and kill. Grades 7-12. --Charli Osborne

From the start you're supposed to believe that the main character is madly in love with a boy who has never spoken to her, and who doesn't notice her until she loses her silver charm bracelet. It was a really frustrating novel because it had so many opportunities to move past the forced love story - and I never really got to know this boy who she loves. He annoyed me most of the book, was never really fleshed out, and I found myself liking the 'bad' guy until the end when he shows how bad he really is (but he was so much more interesting!!!).

It was just frustrating and I wanted to fall in love with the story and just couldn't.

The Sisters Say: Sizzling, Surreptitious, and Spellbinding

"My life is a series of cruel ironies. The pretty girl no one sees. The horse I have to sell. The kiss I can't keep." -ARC, Location 205-206

From the moment I read the blurb of Silver, I had been waiting (impatiently) to read it! Then Talia told me it was on Netgalley and I have to admit...I did my happy dance--the dance that makes my toddler laugh, that makes my dogs start jumping up and down, and that makes my husband roll his eyes and mumble something about books being more important than oxygen for me. And in that moment--I might have given up a few breaths to be one of the first to read this book!

The idea of Brianna binding her soul to her mortal enemy just mesmerized me, and I will say that Talia did not let me down! One of the best things about this book is there isn't chapter after chapter of set-up that you have to wade through to understand the world. The action starts in Chapter 1, and I have to say one of the best scenes of the book occurs in this chapter--the scene where Blake discovers who Brianna truly is. It's sinister, but in a sexy way, and you can just feel the magic in the way Talia describes the scene. I felt like time froze and I was swept into their world to watch as both of their destinies crossed. AND I love the duplicitous dialogue here. My fave you ask? Said by Blake: "'Where have you been hiding?' His smile is lethal." Ohhhh...goose bumps!

I always enjoy seeing different mythology in a book, too.

Okay, where do I start? I had mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand I liked it, because it had some cool mythology in it, and of course, anyone who reads my blog regularly knows how I love books with mythology in it. So ther'es that. I also like a good love triangle, and I also love the stories where girls get the guy that they've always crushed on but who never noticed them before. So far we're all cool.

But then, when the bracelet breaks at a party, all the sudden the boys can see her and she's no longer invisible. As it turns out it has some sort of spell on it or something that keeps her from being "seen" by boys. So she's always been rather unremarkable to them where they either don't notice her at all, or forget her immediately. I didn't like the fact that Blake was one of the ones who couldn't see her, and that after her bracelet stopped blotting her out, now he notices her. That just kind of bothered me. I wanted him to see her before. So I guess that hits upon my biggest problem with the story... the shallowness of her relationships in the story. Even with her friends. There just didn't seem to be a lot of depth there.

I did like where the story is obviously going. There's a danger to her that her bracelet was protecting her from. There are some hot guys who are created to go after her and kill her, etc... And once she and Blake got together, I did like their relationship.

The book read very quickly and had great pacing. So the author really did a good job pulling you in and moving the story along. I am definitely going to read the next book so I can find out where things are going to go from here. All in all, even with some slight disappointments, I did enjoy the story and will be picking up the next book.

I felt like I never fully knew what was going on until the end…like there were scenes I had missed. Loved the concept. Good writing. Nice romance.

Can I just say that I really, really enjoyed this one? I've had my eye on it for what seems like forever and it did not disappoint! Full of really interest mythology and plot twists galore, I can't imagine anyone disliking Vance's amazing fantasy review. It's really hard to not go into spoilers with this one, so I'm going to make this review short and sweet.

With a love that is destined to end in death, this romance will certainly take us on the ride of our lives. But what truly is interesting about the book is the romance. So real, it'll make your heart beat double-time in your chest. But the overall question is how much of it really is real and how much of it is fake? This is more than a simple love story. This is the story of a curse that transcends time, a coming of age for a girl who will decide the fate of the gods, and the understanding of first love as well as your role in life. This book is truly unique and stands out among the growing field of young adult mythological literature.

The pacing in this novel was superb as well. It was not too fast and not too slow, it was simply just right. And the flow of the characters and Vance's writing style made the book a breeze to read. There was very little to no confusion in the novel besides in the very beginning where it was almost necessary to the plot. It does help that the characterization was pretty awesome. The band of characters varies greatly and is beyond interesting because it almost seems as if everyone has something to hide. But that's also where my small problem with the book comes into play. At times, it felt like every time we turned the page a new character was suddenly popping out of the blue to reveal that they had hidden talents.
