5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books ever
O.k this book is sooooooooooo cool. I read the first in this series when I just went to secoundry school. I took out all three of the first books, then didn't give them back till I had this huge fine. I love them all. 2.0 out of 5 stars The weakest entry (and not surprisingly, the last)
Having read and enjoyed the first two books, I hunted down a copy of this one, and was terribly disappointed.

It reads very much as if someone else wrote it from Horowitz's outline, contradicts various elements from the first two books, doesn't have the humor, and is fairly flat. As a stand-alone book, it would be all right, but it doesn't mesh at all with the first...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books ever, December 15, 1999

O.k this book is sooooooooooo cool. I read the first in this series when I just went to secoundry school. I took out all three of the first books, then didn't give them back till I had this huge fine. I love them all. Anthony Horowitz is one of my favourite writers and there's so many books of his which are now unpublished. This series of books (Theres actually about five.)is all about the old ones, this ancient dark power and a group of five boys who have the power to control it, and fight back against the evil. This book is about two twins with the ability to comunicate telepathically with each other. It's got old charecters like Martin(The leader. book one is based on him)and Pablo(Book 2) theres murder, and drugs, and dark magick. It's got everything a book should have, and my advice is read the whole series. Books four and Five are impossible to find, I had to go to like an antique store, but go to the trouble cause these books are worth it. P.S. This book is one of the best, and you find out a lot about the five's history, and the final batle in which they banish the old ones completly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, but spooky--not something to read before bed., December 19, 1997
This review is from: The Silver Citadel (Paperback)
I first read The Silver Citadel when I was about the age of the main character--fourteen. I loved it. The surprising thing is, I still do. It's very well written, with wonderful turns of phrase that verge on painful. The main character, Nicholas, is definitely a sympathetic character and presents an effective point of view.

The Silver Citadel is technically young adult fiction, but only in that it's a little more thinly written than something geared for adults. It's engaging and frightening, falling right in that between-genere spot where dark fantasy segues into horror. Even now, it's not something I'd want to read right before bed.

Maybe the best way I can put it is that it's the third book in a series. After reading it, I immediately went to track down the first two, and I've been waiting eagerly for the next one ever since.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 4th book, March 11, 2002
By
This review is from: The Silver Citadel (Paperback)
I can't really add anything to the previous comments, these books are TERRIFIC!!! I've read the first four books of the Pentagram series about six times when I was a kid, and the finding of the fifth book still haunts me!! So maybe I can help those who haven't had the chance to be frightened by the 4th book. It's caled "The Day Of The Dragon" and was first published in 1990 by Methuen Children's Book Ltd, London. In the first part of the book we see Martin Hopkins and Richard Cole again, the second part introduces the fifth boy, Will Tller. The story is mostly situated in Hong Kong and Kowloon, but it's been 4 years now since I've last read it so that's pretty much what I remember now. Except for the fact that these books were really really thrilling of course. A must-read series for EVERYONE!!!
And if anyone knows anything about the fifth book, PLEASE let me know!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, January 23, 2000
This review is from: The Silver Citadel (Paperback)
I have been waiting to read the last three books in this series for 15 years. It was fantastic. The fight against the Old Ones continues. Does anyone know what the titles of the last 2 books are. The reader from London says that they do exist although I have never heard of them on this side of the Atlantc.

3.0 out of 5 stars New- Raven's Gate!, August 28, 2005
This review is from: The Silver Citadel (Paperback)
I haven't actually read the books yet because I wasn't born when they came out, but I wanted to share the fact that Anthony Horowitz has re-written them! He has renamed the series 'the gatekeeper series'. The first one 'Raven's Gate' has already been published, and is almost identical to 'The Devil's Doorbell' except for Martin's name being changed to Matthew and several other details being altered. I am now going to read the 2nd book.

On Horowitz's website it says that there were meant to be 5 books in the old series, but that he never finished them so the series actually ends with the 4th book- 'The Day of the Dragon'. Hopefully , this time round he will finally complete the series and we will all get to find out what happens to Martin/Matthew.
