A Very Different Story,
By Biogal (Montclair, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silver City (Silver Sequence) (Hardcover)
In this second book of the Silver Sequence Cliff McNish continues his bizarre tale of mutated children trying to save the world from the evil "roar". If this sounds strange, wait 'til you read the book! I read this book aloud to my nine- and ten-year-old children and it was a pleasure to find a book that intrigued me as much as it did them. We found the book to be disturbing, weird, fantastic, wonderful, exciting and strange, all at the same time. You won't have ever read a book like this before. I might put a small caution not to give this book to a child that is easily put off or scared by the bizarre (the children mutate into disturbing but necessary forms, for example). I think tweens and teens might be best suited for the subject matter of this book. I felt that my reading it to my children helped mitigate some of the stranger elements that they might have found too disturbing. But if you have an avid reader or one who isn't intrigued by the status quo of children's books, this is an excellent choice! To make sure, perhaps a quick read of the first chapter would help you make up your mind as the book gets quirky very quickly.

Amazing book!,
By Paige Turner (New England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silver City (Silver Sequence) (Paperback)
Even better than the first book! After reading The Silver Child, I rushed straight to the library to get the Silver City. I was a bit apprehensive because sometimes the first book in a series is the best one, and the quality kind of peters out as the series continues. Not the case with The Silver Sequence! The first book raised many questions in my mind, and the Silver City managed to both answer some of my questions and raise new ones. The book contains a wonderful mixture of excitement, intrigue, mystery, horror (but not too much), and definitely adventure. Cliff McNish is an amazing author whose writing creates a detailed picture of what is happening in the story. I have nothing but praise for this author and his amazing series!

Fantastic, heroic journey,

I loved this book!
McNish is able to build so much tension and so much horror that his characters seem almost myth-like as they attempt their many and varied tasks in seeking to protect their world from a horror-filled end. My favorite character is Thomas, whose journey in book one to becoming a selfless and stunningly capable leader shows its fruition here. In Silver City, he is a single-minded powerhouse of determination and strength, even when tested to the outer limits of human ability. I was literally on the edge of my seat, breathless to find out what would happen. In no way did the climax disappoint, nor did Thomas fail to evidence even more growth in the end. And, as Helen says, since Thomas' role in the final task will be even more pivotal, I cannot *wait* to read that book!

The Silver City (from the fab silver sequence)!,
By joseph heskett "joe" (england) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silver City (Silver Sequence S.) (Hardcover)
I believe this is one of the best books that i have ever read and i am sure many, many others agree with me. The Silver City is the second book in the Silver Sequence. Even more thrilling and exciting than the first, if that is possible, with underground exploring, those wonderful drills and a rather greusome description on the starving monster coming to devour all the world. Cliff McNich as succeed in writing another just as good as his other trilogy, the doomsell, if not better! which you wouldn't of thought possible. All thier wellbeing is in the hands of the wonderful and heroic Milo the silver child who is constantly thinking of stratagies to defend the people of earth. Milo's younger sister also goes through a dramatic change to lead the second line of defenders. Emily and Freda also play thier part by coming across the great protector. Walter also helps out in any way he can and Helen plucks up the courage to look into the monsters mind only for it to be a trap. When the monster is near the earth it already starts its bonbardment. Can they withstand the monster while Emily and Freda find the prodector? What of the chidren with drills, good or evil? You will just have to read it to find out! And trust me it is well worth it!!
