Let me start by saying that this book is better than the prequel, The Gold Coin, in terms of the plot & the mystery line. Compare to the first book, this one encourages you to read on. The thrill & suspense of finding out who the real assassin is, is the bright side of this book. The way the assassin delivers his threat & the way A.K. described the detailed thoughts of the sicko assassin made this book spine chilling. I actually got goose bumps from time to time. I think she should be a mystery writer more than a romance (base on this Coin series, that is). I somewhat enjoyed this book bec. of this mystery plot. However, the romance is as much disappointing as the prequel. The love story of Breanna & Royce was just as unimpressive, unconvincing & dull as Anastasia's & Damen's. Their relationship wasn't developed enough - the declaration of their love was too simple, quick & unexciting - NO challenge whatsoever. Like the Gold Coin, this book also shows too many contradictory conversations, actions & gestures given the time of the 18th century. I did not like the idea of Breanna, who was supposedly a prim & proper lady, became the seducer in their relationship. Base on this Coin series, the two ladies where the aggressive one when it came to showing & demanding sexual desires... OR perhaps I am just old fashion & prefers the heroine as naive & innocent when it comes to this area.

The reason why I rate this book only a 3 stars is because despite my enjoyment to the mystery plot, this book was under Regency/Historical Romance gender. The romance as I have said above was simply not impressive & the historical time plot wasn't researched on & used properly. Too many inconsistencies & contradictions.... Had this book been under Mystery (& not historical), I would have rate it a 4 stars.

I am a new historical romance novel reader but I have read more than 40 books in this gender for the past three months ( mostly written by Julie Garwood's, Judith McNaught's, Jude Deveraux's & Jill Barnett's). In this span of time, I found out my own preferences. I have learned to know exactly what I like and what to expect in a historical romance stories. Perhaps my expectations are higher because of the previous books I have read & from the above authors? Well, all these comments are only my opinion. Everyone have different taste & preferences. I read quite a bit of 5 stars rating here in Amazon about this book, So...it is always best to find out for yourself. I suggest you barrow this book in the library to be on the safe side. Then buy your own copy afterwards - if u find it more than what I have said. Good luck!

3.0 out of 5 stars Brenna's Story, April 20, 2002
This review is from: The Silver Coin (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you have read any other Andrea Kane books you may be disappointed. Although is is a good story there is just something that seeems to be lacking. I am not sure what that something is but it seems to lack some of the magic that is Andrea Kane. I am a huge fan and I buy her books simply due to the name on the cover and this will not change.

This is Brenna's story and is the conclusion to the coin series. The first being The Gold Coin. Although it is not a five star story it is still worth the time to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once again love triuphms over evil., October 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Silver Coin (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
I just the read the last of the "Coin Series" book. Andrea Kane once again doesn't disappoint me. After I read the romance between Anastasia and Damen, I was wondering if Breanna was going to find that same love. Royce was that hero she needed. When Breanna and her family is threaten Royce Chadwick came to the rescue not just once but twice especially to rescue Breanna from ever feeling that she would never love like her cousin. Many complained of the way Breanna's name was written but I think since Ms. Kane wrote it she is entitled to write it the way she felt wanted to be written. Also the complained about the women of that century didn't speak their mines well I'm pleased that both Anastasia and Breanna did. Many of us rather still see women hanging to their husbands in other novels then seeing women with independence. I love the way Ms. Kane writes and I agree with her that her heroines should not just have men who loves them but also independece. If you haven't read this book then go buy it or get it from your local library you wont be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silver Coin is Great! Love Her Books, December 7, 1999
This review is from: The Silver Coin (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
A sequel worth waiting for. After the Gold Coin, I couldn't wait for Breana's Story. It was great. The first book had a hint of what Breana could be and in this one, she has blossom from a social butterfly into a courageous and strong woman who would do anything to protect those she loves. I love how she takes charge of her own love affair. Get the confusion out of the way. The problems of modern love affair is the non-communication.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful sequel!, June 23, 2000
This review is from: The Silver Coin (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was so excited to finally get the chance to read The Silver Coin. After finishing The Gold Coin, I was terribly impatient to wait for it to arrive in Canada. When it finally did, I quickly snatched a copy from Chapters and took a break to read it. And boy, the wait was worth it! I truly enjoyed this novel: Ms.Kane did a wonderful job tying ends together, and the love story between Breanna and Royce was wonderful and satisfying! Ms.Kane has the ability to write mystery and romance, all packed into one novel. The suspense was intriguing and the wonderul hero Royce, was always around to protect his beloved was remarkable. Their love shines all throughout the novel, and the characters takes the reader on a journey with them.

If you've never read a novel by Ms.Kane before, you must read the Coin Series. This is her writing at her best!

5.0 out of 5 stars KANE keeps getting better and better!!, October 22, 1999

This review is from: The Silver Coin (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read everything Andrea Kane has written, and each book is better than the last. She makes you fall completely in love with the heroes and wish you were their heroines. All of her books are so well-characterized with love stories that can only be written straight from a tender and sensitive heart. The two COIN books are both exquisite. No matter which Kane book you choose to buy, you're in for a truly enchanting and dreamy read. Ms. Kane - you GO girl!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Who ever heard of an 19th century heroine called Breanna?, September 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Silver Coin (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Maybe I'm being too picky, but I get tired of suspending disbelief with romances. A note to Kane: no one in the 19th century would have been named Breanna! It's a misspelled version of a name that would likely have been spelled Briana, if it was used at all in that time period. She's named her characters straight off the top 10 list of 1999. The names of the heroine's children are also utterly unrealistic. Holly? Quinn? The heroines' characters are also overly modern. Liberated women of a certain type didn't exist then. Read Mary Balogh or Amanda Scott, two authors with characters who are a touch more believable. This book does have all the required elements -- romance, sex, a touch of danger -- though Kane's language and plot is sugary. "Precious" is obviously her favorite word.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dashing hero makes this a four star book, August 28, 2011
This review is from: The Silver Coin (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Silver Coin ties up many of the loose ends from its prequel, The Gold Coin. I liked this novel better than the Gold Coin but it falls a bit short of Andrea Kane's other historical romance novels.

Breanna Colby has a vey special relationship with her cousin Anastasia. They even look alike since their fathers were twins and their mothers were sisters, I had a very hard time believing they were almost identical and almost impossible to tell apart. Anastasia is returning from her honeymoon in the states when Breanna receives threatening gifts from an assassin. Breanna had saved her cousin's life when she shot the assassin in the hand, now he is looking for revenge.

Anastasia's husband fears for both his wife and Breanna's life, so he calls in an expert at finding missing people, Royce Chadwick. Royce is a nobleman who is unconventional, bold and impossibly attractive. He takes the case and is smitten with Breanna.

Breanna is just as smitten too. The leads have an interesting romance due to the mystery surrounding the assassin. The chemistry between them is rather lukewarm. They have a romance that moves along at a steady pace but I never felt that they had overwhelming feelings for each other. In fact, the best part of this book is Royce's hunt for his nemesis. Royce is an exceptional sleuth, his mind is simply brilliant and I knew why Breanna fell for him but I cannot say what he loved so much about Breanna who always appeared to be reserved (except for a few bold times in the bedroom). Breanna can be reckless but otherwise she was just too distant to the reader. She does not display much emotion and I just could not see when Royce fell in love with her.

What makes this novel a four star read is the hero. Royce is daring and dynamic. I thought he was beautifully written. Breanna is not a terrible heroine rather she is a little on the boring side but Royce more than makes up for the lack of spark from his heroine.

This was the very first Andrea Kane story I read, and I fell in love with this author after reading it! She writes so beautifully, you can almost feel the characters' emotions. I loved the intensity of feelings between the main characters, and how the story resolved itself. All in all, this was just a great book! Don't start it at night though, because you will not be able to put it down!
