4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting paranormal tale February 22, 2012
By Linda G
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed this book so much that I read it in one sitting. I like the paranormal and although this story is classed as fiction it is based on real interviews with someone who claimed he learned to astral travel in order to try to contact the spirit body of his brother, who was in a coma. Even if you don't believe that such things are possible, it's a good read as a supernatural suspense story. My grandfather said he used to be able to leave his body and had strange experiences, which is one of the reasons I was curious to read this book. I will be reading more of Dr Paul's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Is An Out of Body Experience April 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the third book by Dr. Paul that I have read, and now I want to read the rest of them!

Silver Cord is a story of reunion, love and redemption for two brothers. Against this tapestry of human emotion, Dr. Paul weaves a story of what life might be like on the astral plane. This is a fast, easy-to-read and engaging story. There are no chapters, because frankly you do not need any. This book is a flowing stream of consciousness from the mind of one man's self-imposed challenge to push himself to the edge of sanity to save another. Of course, there are worlds beyond the astral plane, but Dr. Paul convincingly takes us to a place where many of us go without knowing it and explains it well.

I have read Abduction, Hamelton and now Silver Cord. If Abduction takes you out of this world and Hamelton takes you out of this time, then Silver Cord takes you out of your body (but still very much in your mind). No book is perfect, there were a few typos, but I can count them on one hand and they did not detract from the story (maybe they were intentional, because Dr. Paul likes to make you think). His books are metaphysics for non-metaphysics majors.

Silver Cord will stretch your mind in a way very similar to the Twilight Zone television show (I can easily see these books adapted to the screen). Dr. Paul's books are a worthy successor to that acclaimed and timeless series. Read and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW -- MUST READ ! March 16, 2012
By Janimal
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was hooked from the beginning! How would you feel if you suddenly discovered that you had an identical twin you never knew about -- still living, but in a coma -- and no one else cares!

Desperate and highly motivated, Jim goes on a quest to learn astral projection in order to reach his brother's soul -- in hopes of bringing him back. I won't give away the ending -- but I will say that the ups and downs of Jim's journey, and especially what he learns along the way, will keep you on the edge of your seat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silver Cord October 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having an interest in Astral Projection I bought "Silver Cord" by Dr. Paul. I loved the book! It was fascinating and quick read. I couldn't put it down! The only thing that would have made it better is if it had been longer. I wanted to continue the story. It was great and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in astral projection or to those who wonder what is on the other side!

I really enjoyed this book because astral projection for lack of a better description of what this book is, IS something I had experienced personally back in April 2006. I could not talk about it for a very long time because a person had died and did not return. I also died but was able to return.

I remember the "silver cord" it was coming out of my left boot as I was battling a shadow - an evil being of myself as I've figured it out over time. This evil being wanted to cut my cord but for some reason, I didn't want that to happen so I fought him. Imagine my surprise when I woke up to find myself in a sweat lodge completely naked with tribal elders ministering to me. Thanks to whoever you are from the Flathead Rez!

Astral projection is something some might consider worthy of exploring but I'd be remiss if I believe the stories already floating out there about people having experiences with it. You can NOT just recall putting yourself there. It just HAPPENS. You can not call it to you. It comes to you of its OWN choosing.

This book is an excellent way of putting it in an "experience" format and yet, makes us feel like we are NOT crazy or mentally ill because what each of us goes through only belongs to us and to those who helps us through it. This shadow, whoever he was actually HELPED me survive by forcing me to choose whether or not I wanted to live or not.

Good job Dr. Paul.

More About the Author

Mental health therapist Dr. Paul has been compiling accounts of paranormal experiences for over twenty years. No one knows how many accounts he has amassed. These personal narratives by patients range from abduction by aliens or fighting with ghosts to stories from those who claim to be modern-day wizards. They are all in rough form and have been gathering dust for years. In 2006, Dr. Paul released a few to a specialized professional audience for review. The lucky few that were privileged to read these rough drafts have been demanding a greater release of the work by the reluctant doctor.

A passionate science fiction and fantasy reader in his youth, Dr. Paul has studied the paranormal extensively in his adult life, giving him a unique understanding of the unusual. This has allowed him to offer a sympathetic ear and uncommon understanding to patients to whom other health care professionals have been unable to relate.

Dr. Paul is a skeptic at heart and claims never to have had an unusual experience. He has been quoted, "Most of my patients are suffering from delusions or misapprehensions and simply need my help." He has found over the years, however, that a certain percentage of the experiences related to him have no rational explanations other than exactly what the patient has claimed.

Pressure from his tightly-knit fan club at last convinced him to revisit his boxes of notes and journals in 2010, and to release one of his more unusual cases. With the permission of the patient involved, Dr. Paul went through the account to change many names and facts in order to publish the journal publically. "I am not a writer, just a tale re-teller," says Dr. Paul. In the beginning of 2011, the book Hamelton was made available.

The book was published as "fiction" because, as Dr. Paul said, "I would rather be thought a 'fictional character' myself than prove the authenticity of the autobiography by opening my confidential files." With his characteristic modesty, Dr. Paul made no effort to promote his book, but simply put it on Amazon and waited for it to be found. Unsurprisingly, the few that happened to pick it up demanded to hear more about the doctor and his journals.

By the end of 2011, Dr. Paul had taken four more journals out of the dusty box in his attic, got the rights to them, changed names and places, and did some basic editing for clarity. White Warrior, Abduction, Chimeras, and Silver Cord went online in January 2012.

His objective is not financial gain or to push book sales. Dr. Paul merely wishes to reach those people who will enjoy this type of work, and hopes that those people will chat about it to like-minded friends or write reviews to let others know about it. This will motivate Dr. Paul to believe that it is worth his time to put effort into distributing more of his journals for the enjoyment of others.
