I'm really enjoying this violin!, September 28, 2005
This review is from: Silver Creek Model 2 Violin 4/4 Outfit
I purchased one and was so impressed that I bought another. Now I take one camping or on vacation, just about everywhere. And I love the deep tones I get. In fact, after playing some fiddles that were selling for thousands--and deciding that this Silver Creek fiddle sounded as good--I'm putting off buying a "good" fiddle. Maybe as I get better (I've been at it for three years) I'll notice a big difference between this model and the German ones I was urged to buy, ones that cost thousands; however, now I see no reason to spend more.

There is no number ZERO for customer service., May 9, 2006
This review is from: Silver Creek Model 2 Violin 4/4 Outfit
I recently ordered this set up. All looked nice in the pictures, site really touted their customer service and satisfaction issues.
Prompt shipping, very excited to get it in my hands.
Once opened was a different story. When I took the violin out of the case, the back was covered in something waxy or gooey or I just don't know what the hell it was. The bow already had numerous broken hairs. The rosin was hard as a rock and broke off in tiny flakes and chips as soon as I touched it.
I contacted the merchant via email expressing my concerns on the handling of the merchandise prior to packing. There is nothing in the case that could have possibly leaked or gotten onto the violin therefore it was a matter of poor handling on their end. There is now reason for numerous bow hairs to already be broken when the bow was secure in the case except for, again, poor handling.
I waited nearly 5 days for someone from Musician's Friend to contact me but no one did. On the fifth day, I contacted them via telephone. I spoke with someone in the returns regarding the condition of the instrument. This person on the other end could care less what my concern was and only wanted to know if I wanted a return label shipped to me or emailed.
Folks, that sums up my first experience buying a violin as well as my first and last experience dealing with Musicians Friend. I will never know if this was a nice instrument or not as it was not in playable condition. It does not matter if it is a $795.00 instrument marked down to $299.00. It does not matter if it is a $299.00 instrument marked down to $2.99. The lack of customer service and the attitude I got from the merchant says it all...a big fat ZERO! To receive a supposed new instrument in this condition which was unplayable is inexcuseable and states volumes of the care this item and my purchase received from the moment it was ordered, packed, and shipped to the moment I called to request a return authorization.
I have learned my lesson. I will spend a few extra dollars buying a nice violin from a local merchant who will offer expert set-up and service as well as a quality instrument.
I know violins is not the only thing Musician's Friend sells. So good luck with your purchase.

Very Impressed, April 15, 2006
This review is from: Silver Creek Model 2 Violin 4/4 Outfit
I was a little hesitant to pull the trigger on this purchase, but I have to admit that #1 the fiddle arrived in excellent condition, and practically in tune. #2 the instrument is a real quality piece of work, it sounds great, and plays great. I would highly recommend this fiddle, especially for a beginner, you will not be disappointed! Musicians Friend and Amazon are great.
