Let's hear it for green thumbs!,

This review is from: Silver Diamond, Vol. 1: Silver Seed (Paperback)
Sawa Rakan is a young man living on his own after the death of his mother and grandfather. Despite his shadowy knowledge of his not quite normal past Rakan is determined to live his life and progress into the future in as predictably mundane way as possible. This plan is blown out of the water when he discovers a man lying unconscious in his flower bed. Now Rakan is discovering his affinity with plants is something more than just having a green thumb and that life cannot always be as normal as he would like it to be.
This is a very well drawn, well written manga and the start of a new fantasy series. Although the idea of traveling between worlds is not unusual in fantasy manga, the direction that this story seems to be going in is pretty unusual. There is a nice little mystery lurking behind Rakan's past and I really enjoyed his interactions with his otherworldly visitors, Chigusa, Narushige, and Koh the talking snake. It made me laugh out loud in a couple parts (especially when Koh discovered the TV!) and I'm looking forward to the next volume.

Silver Diamond is one of the most imaginative stories out there. I am a gardener, so the story line of a boy that can grow plants attracted me to this story, when I started reading Shiho's creativity is what kept me coming back. I usually pick up a manga here and there, but with Silver Diamond I bought 3 volumes with every paycheck. Now I'm anxiously waiting for the latest volume to be printed!

Exceptional!,
This review is from: Silver Diamond, Vol. 1: Silver Seed (Paperback)
I'm a big fan of the boy's love genre of manga and this is my favorite series. It's funny, romantic and the fantasy world that is created here is amazing and interesting. I have volumes one through four and I have to say you'll never be let down by the story, the art or the wonderful characters. Absolutely stunning. The only drawback I found is that I constantly crave more.

A few years ago I remember filling in a survey on Tokyopop abput which managas I'd like to see brought over into the english language. My top three choices had been Koori no Mamono no Monogatari, Yatterneez, and.... Silver Diamond.
I'm very happy they listened for at least this seris, and have just placed an order on it. I recomend that if you like fun quirky yet still VERY interesting mangas to pick this one up. ^^-

I really am happy that they have kept this as original as close to the original as possible, with honorifics and all! I really like the storyline, it is very good, the characters are all very distintive and add tremendous texture to the story! Get the first book and you will be hooked. I don't do too many reviews, so probably not to good at it. But I really felt strongly about this one.

A nice start!,

This seems like a lovely start for what I hope will be well-done fantasy BL story. It leaves enough mystery in it that I want to grab the second one. The art is well-done and the panels flow nicely. The fantasy world having gun-plants, clock-plants, and so one is also very interesting. While probably not the most unique thing out there, it is a very enjoyable read so far.

An Obsession.,

I bought Silver Diamond on a whim and I am so glad that I did. I am an avid manga reader (more like a rabid otaku, really...) with at least 50+ series bursting off of my shelves. The artwork and the characters are simply beautiful and the story line is different, interesting, and fun. So far I have read volumes one through four and I love them all.
Silver Diamond centers around Rakan (a handsome young man with an ability to make flowers and other plants grow like crazy), Chigusa (a dark, spiky haired hottie who is one heck of a shot with his tree? gun), Shigeka (beautiful blonde man with a pet(?) snake that can talk), the Prince (exists in another world, he is quite possibly VERY evil), and other characters are added along the way. The interactions between the characters is often hilarious and I find myself laughing aloud so much that the others in the house think I'm slightly crackers. The story has a distinct shonen-ai feel to it (so be warned if you don't like that kind of thing...I do, so slurp :P...) with the growing relationship between Rakan and Chigusa. There is also a building tension with the "dark" Prince version of Rakan. Conclusion: Great, funny, sexy, feel good series with a looming battle between light and dark and possible (love?) to come. Buy it! You won't be disappointed. With each volume it only keeps getting better. |
