not the live cheapie that you might expect....,

Don't be fooled by the cheap availability of this disc. I recently purchased both this and the "Live in Austin, TX" disc put out by the Austin City Limits people. Both cd's were recorded about the same time--'83 (ACL) & '84 (SE)--and feature a similar program, although the ACL disc has a few more tracks. Also, Jerry Lee is in top form throughout. Even though it has fewer songs, the Silver Eagle show wins out with SUPERIOR SOUND. The Silver Eagle sounds as good as you'd expect from a radio-broadcast live performance, while the ACL surprisingly sounds a tad removed.
I rate the Silver Eagle a very hardy 4&1/2 stars, the ACL a hardy 4 stars. If you're a Jerry Lee fan, you'll enjoy both. (You'll also want to check out the "Last Man Standing" disc.) |
