Humans, werewolves and vampires! OH MY!,
By Darkcat_ak "darkcat_ak" (Alaska) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silver Fang, The (Paperback)
Sion Baptiste is a vampire who can walk during the day. His father has sent him to hire Samantha, a bodyguard, under the pretense of protecting the family against an unknown enemy, most likely werewolves. Both are in the dark regarding his true purpose - creating a master race of vampires that will be able to once and for all destroy the werewolves.
Disbelieving that she is the key to the Master race, and unwilling to be a pawn, Samantha becomes the hunted. When the vampires she has vowed to kill capture her, Samantha escapes only to get kidnapped by werewolves. Finding herself in a battle for her own life, she quickly discovers that the only way to save herself is to actually unite both factions to fight an even greater enemy! Tamara Gray has written a very fast paced novel that kept me reading as quickly as possible. Even though Samantha looses more blood than any one person should be allowed to loose (and not die or turn into a vampire), and it didn't make since that a master vampire would hire a mortal body guard - which she herself was suspicious of - I LOVED this book! THE SILVER FANG quite honestly is just amazing. The story is told in first person from Samantha's perspective (which was very quickly forgotten) and reads like a movie script. Fans of Wesley Snipes "Blade" series and the movie "Underworld" would really like this book as it reminded me of these movies. However, THE SILVER FANG, make no mistake, is its own story. The story starts with the ending battle and then you find out what happened leading Samantha into a blood bath with the werewolves. It was actually masterfully written because as a reader I had two totally different feelings reading the same section. Samantha is a strong woman. Stronger than most men she knows. I really liked her personality. Sion Baptiste, I greatly under estimated because at first I just found him exceedingly annoying. In the end, I really think get got the short end of the stick, even though he technically gets the girl...you will have to read the story to find out what I mean here! I was really frustrated with the ending because while it came to a satisfactory conclusion, you know there is more following because to many items haven't been resolved. So this will be another series on my auto-buy/must read list. I was so impressed with Tamara Grays writing style; I can't believe this is her first novel. Absolutely phenomenal! Buy the book or get the download, if you are a fan of vampires or werewolves it won't matter, you won't be disappointed with THE SILVER FANG!

Main character is not very likable....,

I didn't care for the way the story was written (many sentence fragments with little punctuation - not easy to read) nor did I like the "heroine" who wound up having sex easily with everyone but the person she had a relationship with. The situations, sex, violence all seemed contrived and gratuitous to me.

Good story, bad grammer,
By Aly (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silver Fang, The (Paperback)
Ok, i read a lot of supernatural romances and this one is so-so. The story had a lot of potential, my only issue w/ the book was all the grammatical errors..I mean oh my god! A high school fresman could have written better! I was so sick of re-reading Sion Baptiste's name over and over again. What's wrong with just calling him Sion? I will probably read the sequels because the actually story was pretty good...but i hope she gets a new publisher! If there were no errors in this book i would have definetely given it a higher score...

Disappointing,

I wanted to like this book. I really did. Human private detective guards vampire family! What's not to like?
Well, for one thing, in this book, my first two sentences would have been one sentence, with no period, semicolon, or even a comma to separate them. That might not seem such a big deal, but it jerked me out of the story every time I had to reread a sentence to figure out what the author meant. Was this edited at all? It didn't have very good world or character building either. Maybe the author was trying to introduce the background and characters slowly, with tantalising hints, but all I kept thinking was, "Where did _that_ come from?!?" Nor did I like the whole "she's attracted to him, she's angry with him, he's trying to seduce her, he's angry with her" back-and-forth technique. It was too choppy and not believable. If the author was trying to create sexual tension that way, she failed miserably. The transformation of a couple of the bad guys into apparent good guys just didn't work for me. And on a related topic, the sex scenes, and who she had sex with, made me think "Ick". And I couldn't bear the, (in my opinion), totally gratuitous killing at the end. There are other problems, but I won't prose on any longer. I was all set to buy the sequel when it came out, but now I'm not going to bother.

Anita Blake wannabe visits Underworld movie set...,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Silver Fang, The (Paperback)
Usually I can overlook poor publishing if the storyline is engaging enough. Unfortunately, "Silver Fang" doesn't come close to qualifying. The heroine, whose resolve seems to crumble again and again at the slightest hint of sexual provocation, keeps making decisions that follow no logical rationale and contradict her earlier thoughts. The editing was practically non-existant! Punctuation errors made it hard to follow diaglog. I found myself rereading passages to try and figure out who was speaking. The story, while familiar in its species conflicts, does eventually start to get interesting with a couple of unique twists, but the reader is constantly jolted out of the story by verb tense errors, punctuation disasters, and grammatical irregularities. Makes me wonder if english is the editor's second language! If I had picked up this book from an aspiring high school journalist I would have thought it had potential, but as I paid good money for the book and expected a professionally edited work, I feel a little hosed. I would give the author a second chance and purchase her writing again, but not if she continues to use the same publishing company!

In dire need of an editor.,
By Kathleen (St. Louis, MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silver Fang, The (Paperback)
A high school English teacher would probably give this a "C" at best - which is not what I'd expect of something I have to pay to read. The narrative is all over the place, with back story tossed in at random. When I have to re-read a paragraph to figure out which character is speaking, it's not a good sign. The story itself had potential, but even that seems spliced together from various well known examples of the genre. As it stands right now, this book has nothing to offer that you can't get more easily and enjoyably by re-reading an early Anita Blake book or watching "Underworld".

Action Packed and on the right track,

Way to deliver. I have been recently turned off by another vampire series and have been revaluating the genre altogether until now. This book delivers. I'm sure it's not for everyone but for me personally it kept me interested from page one, until the end.
My only complaint, MORE MORE MORE. My recommendation. Do not take the turn that so many before you have. Keep this heroine grounded in reality. Don't let the leading men get in the way of the plot. Keep the sex hot and minimal. Too much is too much!! Great Read!! If you like the early Laurel K Hamiltons you will enjoy this author.

Something Different,
By Kane "Kane of Allen Lane" (Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silver Fang, The (Paperback)
Honestly, I'm not normally into romance novels. What struck me at first was the fact this author seems to relate to her main character. I can't put my finger on it exactly but it seems she is real, vulnerable yet strong. The internal struggles that someone has and is never willing to admit. I enjoyed the simplicity of the dialogue and the fact all the flub of normal romance was missing. What a refreshing change for once. I don't need to know every little detail of a room or character to fall in love with a book. I like the mystery, the suspense. It is wonderfully exhilarating to make up the world as you see it, in your own mind. KUDOS!! I look forward to her next novel with great anticipation.

OH MY IS RIGHT,
By Cat "Catrina" (New York) - See all my reviews

This is my first review on-line, but I felt the need to comment. I agree with the previous reviewers. This book reads like a movie. I didn't skip over one page, which is a miracle for me.
What is so attractive about this book is the author. A few months back she chatted at a site I frequently visit, and she was down to earth and friendly. At one point I laughed so hard I pulled a stomach muscle. I hope she thinks about venturing into comedic romance as well, I think she could hold her own with the best of them. She was more than willing to provide me with an excerpt from her second book The Wolves Den, which I might add seemed as good if not better than the first. Finally, I am excited about reading the paranormal genre again. I love that she is just a normal everyday woman and very humble. She said one thing to me in an email that you won't hear from authors very often. (I love hearing from fans good or bad. I learn more from fan reviews than the professionals and I soak it in like a sponge with the hope that it helps me become a better writer) She returned my email inquiry immediately, and was very friendly. I do hope Tamara Gray becomes a household name, it couldn't happen to a nicer person.

FINALLY!!!,
By Charlie Avid "Charlie" (North Dakota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silver Fang, The (Paperback)
I'm not the easiest person to please. I often find myself reading through the first few chapters of a book and nodding off, only to three days later finish. Honestly, I wasn't impressed with this publisher until recently.
Sometimes you by chance pick up a book and fall instantly in love with the characters and the author. To think I purchased this book to fill in the gap with a gift card my brother bought me. I've never heard of the author up until recently, and could find no other novels out on the market. I always seem to be disappointed in some aspect of a novel. For a new author I was surprised that I couldn't find anything to improve upon. I simply enjoyed the simplicity and the complexity of the plot and characters. It had me from the start hook line and sinker. I not only found myself intensely interested in the heroine but every new character she introduced. Maybe some of the more popular authors can learn from a new fresh voice. It's not always about the sex. It's not even about the complexity of a story line. It is about the genre and love of vampires and werewolves for many. I love the paranormal and this delivers. The only disappointment on my end was the fact I couldn't find a website, email or any way to contact the author to congratulate her on a job well done. I look forward to hearing more from this heroine and author. She's smart sassy, and isn't easily fooled by men. Keep up the good work, and don't leave us hanging. I expect Tamara Gray to be a household name someday. |
