These flies were a good deal. Even though the colors and flies were off for my area and I suspect most areas, and a few of flies were less than well tied. All and all I cant complain for the price. I used these to teach my cousin how to fly fish, because I didn't care if he snapped a few off. Some of the darker - adams -ish not really looking flies did work in area where the fish were biting at anything. So... All in all, these are good flies for either the times when when you are not expecting to catch any fish, or the times when you are catching too many fish. I actually took a few of these and tied on my own adams rabbit hair padding to make them look better. You could also use a fabric spray pain and hit a few of the orange ones with it... This is an impressive set for a newbie to start out with who doesn't know much about fly fishing.... I'm happy overall with the purchase - (But i also took some good flies with me on my trip)

There were a LOT of flies in this box, but they are poorly tied, unravel after one cast, and the patterns don't imitate any insect that I've ever seen on the river.

Bought these for my grandson. He loves fishing. Makes his own flies. He said this gave him a real assortment. Price was right!

Poorly constructed. Think of them are disposable, one catch flies. Also, the same product is on the shelves at walmart for five bucks.

I received everything in excellent conditions, I fully recommend it, great quality, it was exactly what I needed to start my fishing trip.

These are so so. good for a beginner i guess. They don't really seem to match up to any actual insects but I will say that I caught a wild trout on one. I do get alot of strikes with these but not alot of actual hits.

A good selection of budget flies to pad out your fly box. However, this selection would be better if it comprised of more popular fly patterns.

I now own a number of Orvis, Umpqua and a few other 'better' brand flies from smaller outfits such as Miller Fly Shop, Barnsley and others. However, when I was first starting out, I purchased this fly assortment. For the most part, there are very, very few flies that you would otherwise find in assortment packs from
LL Bean, Orvis, White River and others. These are just a bunch of quickly tied flies (probably in China, mind you); nearly all are dry flies. The colors and patterns on 90% of these are NOT that common, although you can use them for practicing your false casts (recommend you snip the hook though for that).

If you are buying this thinking you'll be able to use the box as well, don't. The box is extremely thin plastic and will break (if not already broken). Do yourself a favor and invest in a real fly box--even a beginner one.

Nice flies and colors. Catch some great panfish with these and a great price for 55 of em!!! also has the clear case in the pic fits right in the bottom of my tackle box.
