I have read "Illusions" and "Right Package Wrong Baggage' by the same author and I must say I absolutely enjoyed the principals shared in each of Campbell's previous titles. 'Silver Lining' exceeded my expectation of good it was a wonderful read. The situations were ones I could relate to and the personality issues centered on control, self esteem, and trust were very true for many of our church leaders and congregants in the church today.
I ask this question; can a marriage be saved when one spouse checks out emotionally while the other is left with luggage filled with memories of unanswered questions, hurt and pain? Dr. Kevin Jennings sits patiently at the law office of Lightfoot & Stokes for his soon to be ex wife to arrive. After not seeing his wife in over a year Dr. Jennings is almost relieved to think Marlissa might not show up. But the good doctor is not so lucky on this day the receptionist just announced "Mrs. Jennings has arrived". What Kevin and his attorney expect from Marlissa is a far cry from the woman standing before them. What the reader will see is a vision when a person allows God to do what He says He will.
An incident from her past haunts Marlissa throughout her marriage. The results of that event contributed to the person she became while married to Dr. Jennings. A bruised and scared woman; who wants nothing more than to trade in her garment of fears for freedom begins to hear Gods voice. By His grace she meets Leon and together they take a walk that many are never ready for, the road to reconciliation.
"Silver Lining' is such an exciting read, it was filled with humor, heartache and redemption.

How much does it take to harden your heart and make you quick to judge and slow to forgive? The author makes you examine that question as you read this story. Another excellent book by Ms. Campbell. As a christian it made me do alot of thinking, would I be able to offer forgiveness or hold onto the past. Real characters and alot of truth. Enjoyed reading this one!!

After reading two other books by Wanda B. Campbell, I must say, I had high expectations for this book also. I can say. . . . she delivered! I was looking for a story with characters that were believable and a good plot with emotions that made me feel as if I was there. Silver Lining gave me just that.

~ Oprah Winfrey said, "Be thankful for what you have: you'll end up having more." That was exactly the case with Marlissa Jennings and her friend Leon Scott. Events of the past affect the future in one way or another.

Marlissa was the wife of Dr. Kevin Jennings who she'd been separated from for over a year. It wasn't Kevin's fault they were separated and Marlissa knew this. She knew she had a handsome husband, nice home and a nice car but something was still missing. Leon Scott was on the same path of destruction until he crossed paths with Marlissa. Leon had a wife named Starla, two children and a thriving construction business. Marlissa and Leon brought each other out of darkness after they met in a club and got sloppy drunk together. This turned out to be a good thing for both of them because they became each other's keeper.

Two years later, Marlissa and Leon were on a different path. The road of destruction was no more and now they had goals that they wanted to accomplish. Marlissa was facing divorce proceedings from Kevin and Leon needed to face Starla and two children who he left due to an addiction.

Now that Marlissa and Leon have gotten their acts together, will Kevin and Starla take them back? What will they have to go through in order to gain their spouses trust again? What about the in-laws and their thoughts? It turns out not to be as easy as it sounds.

Silver Lining captured me in the first few pages where I stayed up late to read at least a fourth of the novel. After completion, I felt so connected to the characters' relationships. She wrote this story that spoke to my heart, my mind, and my spiritual being. I enjoyed previous books or reads by this author, but this was icing on the cake. I was immensely intrigued with how things would play out between the married couples on the verge of divorce and could they reconcile not only their differences but to trust again after alcohol become Leon's and Marlissa's best friend to diffuse their past pain(s). But really it only made them nearly lose the one they truly loved, and had to regain that trust and love once more and build that bridge that was once broken. I was hoping for the best.

Ultimately, this novel showed that "love covers a multitude of sins" whereas forgiveness had to take place and reconciliation eventually happened for both married couples. Regardless of the schemes, lies, deception, and regaining trust, love overpowered the mess. So blessed to read such a dynamic relational read that kept the romance alive even when it could've faltered.

I received a copy from the author from a contest win and sent as a gift a few years ago.

Leisure read, 2014
