This review is from: The Silver Locomotive Mystery (Railway Detective 6) (Hardcover)
I really enjoy Edward marsdens' locomotive mystery series. They are full of interesting history of that period in England. the descriptions of the locomotives seem authentic. the stories are fast paced and contain both excitement and romance. each book is complete in itself- but the whole series is great.

This One Throws Colbeck off the Track,

This review is from: The Silver Locomotive Mystery (Railway Detective Series) (Paperback)
The celebrated "railway detective" is called to Cardiff in Wales, when a silversmith's assistant is murdered and the silver locomotive that he is delivering to a client is stolen. When in Cardiff, Colbeck meets up with an old friend (Stockdale) who is the Superintendent of Police. With Victor in hand they travel out to Wales to try and solve the mystery of who has the silver locomotive.
There are some unnecessary complications that intrude into the story that revolve around a traveling acting troop. They seem to be there to add bulk to the story and a semi-red herring to the investigation. They do little to bring the story along and seem to be nothing more than dead weight. But Marston is a good author and does his best to keep the story moving along. This volume of the series, presents Superintendent Tallis in a new light; he is given more of a personality and some of his wooden attitude is done away with. The wrapping up of the story is credible, and for those of us who have been reading the series, a not unexpected occurrence uh occurs. Zeb Kantrowitz |
