A cheezy eleven track compilation of mostly(if not all)cuts that you can also find on the three 'Acid Daze' volumes.Sound quality isn't that great on every tune,but it varies.Not the best place to start if you're a new fan(could there possibly be any out there?).Cuts that I thought were so-so include "Hurry On Sundown",Nik Turner's oddity "Ghost Dance","Angel Of Death/Magnu" and the late poet Bob Calvert's "Earth Calling".What's with the tune "British Tribal Music"?Should've kept that in the vault.For completists and die-hards only.

As an English Hawkwind fan who has attended countless Hawkwind concerts during the late 70s and the 80s I can attest that this CD is a good sample from towards the end of its Classic, Space Rock period. After this period Hawkwind went through a World Music phase that I never really connected with at the time.

Although it starts off disapointing with a very poor quality recording of Hurry on Sundown (that fails to spoil the song) this quality level picks up to supply other essential tracks such as Angels of Death, Urban Guerilla and an excellent live version of Silver Machine. Combined with sufficient music to provide taste for Hawkwind's later period this is a good CD to round off a Space Rock collection.

More than 30 years together and still rocking. This is Space Rock supreme! Who can forget the sun setting over the stage at Glastonbury all those years ago as this unknown band took to the stage and thrilled us with music we had never really heard before, and we'd never ever forget again. The band are still touring. The personnel may change (even Ginger Baker of Cream once played drums and Lemmy Kilminster of Motorhead played bass and lead guitar for a while) but the beat stays the same.

Lyrics originally by Robert Calvert (the sci-fi author) and later by Dave Brock (the only surviving original member) with a heavy influence of classical poetry (listen out for the stanzas from Longfellow); music with a solid bass and drum beat which can either be calm and melodic (Space is Deep) or a solid thumping rock (Urban Guerilla) with plenty of electronics for the synthesizer fans, this is real road music. Most dedicated Hawkwind fans will have all of these tracks already and it has to be said that this is not the best compilation album, but at this price it has to be a "must buy" for the new listener, the inquisitive, or those of you who only remember "Silver Machine" (the single which hit the British charts in 1972). Eleven track CD compilation of (seemingly) alternate edits of some of Hawkwind's best earlier material. May even be some single versions of certain songs here, but I'm almost sure none of these are the 'original' album mixes. Tunes like "Silver Machine", "Damnation Alley", the Robert Calvert gem "Aero Spaceage Inferno", "Time We Left" and their space exploration rectial "Black Corrider" are always good to hear. Aimed toward the die-hard fans and the old school completists. If you're a new / er Hawkwind fan (if that's even possible) or a casual fan, you might still get something from this disc.
