At a Texas ranch, Las Manzanitas, book two of the Choctaw trilogy,a love so strong begins to emerge between Emily, Maggie's sister, and Tay, a soon to be Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation. Emily, promised to wed an x-Texas Ranger, Lee, falls in-love the first second she lays eyes on Tay. Tay's visit to Las Manzanitas was to wed Cotannah, Cade's sister who had loved Tay since she was 10 years of age. The moment Tay and Emily exchange glances upon entering the ranch, the attraction so strong begins to take hold. What a wonderful story. The characters are colorful, real and quite entertaining. The love scenes are great too. You'll love reading this book. I just got my hands on the third book, After the Thunder. I can't wait to read it.

I don't read many romances. I really loved reading about Emily and Tay. The characters were a bit more developed than some of the other romances that I've read. And the sex scenes were incredibly hot. Ms. Dellin portrays Native Americans as true three dimensional people, unlike many other writers that I've come across. After reading this book, I had to go back and read the first in the series (though each stands alone well), which deals with Emily's sister Maggie and her husband's 'courtship'. I'm anxiously awaiting the third book in the series which features Maggie's sister-in-law, Cotannah (a very important charcter in this book)

And my review:

This book is the second book in a trilogy. The first book was Red Sky Warrior, which I never read. SILVER MOON SONG is a sequel, and reads like one. I was often left feeling lost, as if I'd missed out on the beginning of the story (which in a way, I guess I did). Some authors can write linked books that also work as stand-alones, but this one didn't quite get there.

One thing that I liked with this book was that the author did a good job of potraying Native Americans. She didn't make them or the white characters cliches. I often find that Native American romances can be very "preachy" at times, but this one wasn't. All the characters were more than stereotypes, and for the most part, I found them realistic and likeable.

That being said, Emily, the heroine, was very contradictory at times. She falls for Tay while engaged to another man, Lee. While Lee is a good man, their relationship lacks passion. Emily wants a true, overwhelming love like her sister has, and is starting to realize that she doesn't have that with Lee. However, she can have it with Tay. Which made it difficult for me to believe that she would push Tay away for so long.

Also, it really bothered me that she made love with Tay while still engaged to Lee...and that she still planned on marrying Lee after that! How is that fair to Lee? Or Tay? Or Cotannah (Emily's best friend who's in love with Tay)? Or Emily herself? I wanted to shake her after a while and try to make her realize that she was making everybody miserable. Even if she truly believed that she was sacrificing her own happiness for Cotannah's, didn't she realize that Cotannah would never be happy if she married Tay but never had his love?

Second try of this author; both times the heroines annoyed me. I only bought this book because I found it at a thrift store for 50 cents, but next time, I'll probably just save my money. Recommended only to those who are already fans of this author, and/or want to complete their trilogy.
