I have loved this album since the first time I heard it in the seventies. I have never grown tired of the unmatched vocal stylings of Kenny Rankin and still listen to this album regularly. The songs are beautiful, sometimes haunting, sometimes fun, but never boring. There are so many talented singers in the world, but none quite like Rankin. His voice is pure silk, pure control, perfect pitch. Of course, we all have different tastes in music, but your time won't be wasted for trying something as unique as this.

Kenny Rankin started with the album "Mind Dusters" and continued to develop and mature as a musician through "Like a Seed" and "Inside." "Silver Morning" evinced a new level of artistry and polish, with stellar orchestral arrangements and Kenny's signature guitar work and subtle vocal passion. He reached the pinnacle with "Album" and, with a few infinitessimal dips, has stayed in the stratosphere ever since. Why Kenny Rankin never achieved national fame as great as Frank Sinatra or Mel Torme is beyond me. The way he becomes one with the music is the mark of a consummate artist, and his voice continues to be one of the most versatile around.
"Silver Morning" became my favorite album when it was released in the 1975. It evokes joy, romance, reverence, the whole range of positive organic emotions. Its beauty and intense artistry are undeniable. If I were exiled to a remote island and allowed only three albums, it would be close between this and "Album," but I think "Silver Morning" would win out as one of the three (the other two are classical). I'm thrilled "Silver Morning" has been released on CD. If you never owned the LP or tape, you're in for an exquisitely lush, sonorous treat. If you've been preserving the original album like I have, at last we can indulge with renewed rapturous abandon. Whatever your mood when you start listening, it'll improve a thousandfold, guaranteed.

Silver indeed!,

Kenny Rankin sadly remains one of those artists too few people have discovered. Those who have know how amazingly versatile and fluid a performer he is. This second album has Kenny's takes on a few Beatles songs - which even the Beatles must have been amazed at - and other beautiful music to sweep the listener away. For those who haven't discovered Rankin - here's a sure-fire introduction to his music and the deliciously dream-like state of this music. The world's a better place for having Kenny's music in it.

Super album. I bought the files to save the work of ripping my vinyl. Not sure how much work I saved. All tracks have (timing?) ticks at end on right channel. At first I thought they might be needle drops. Thankfully not so. All levels are down at least 4.5 dB. Some have +1 DC offset. You should expect better from Amazon. Rankin deserves better.

It is hard to imagine, even nearly two years later, that Kenny Rankin is no longer with us. His unique voice and his unique takes on so many wonderful songs are a treasure. Silver Morning is a superb album, from the title track, to his superb interpretations of Blackbird and People Get Ready, to his scat improv on Penny Lane. In The Name Of Love, Haven't We Met, and on this CD release, his great take on Why Do Fools Fall In Love. Kenny's talent was huge, and it really came full flower on this album. It is definitely a must-have. Thanks Kenny for the great music, we miss you.

I am so thrilled this album is finally out on CD. This was my first Rankin album back when it was first released. I've been a fan ever since. If you don't know Rankin, this is vocal jazz that is smooth and easy on the ear with lots of familiar melodies treated in delightful and interesting ways with virtuosity of musicianship... Great album!
