5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to relate to Sarabeth
As a young teen, I loved Silver, and must've reread it a dozen times! Sarabeth is a wonderfully realistic character, and it's easy to imagine the awkwardness she feels at bridging the gap between life in a trailer with her mom, and the classmates who've known nothing but the rich life. But, as Sarabeth soon discovers, there are problems in everyone's lives, and money...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I've ever read!!!!!!, May 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Silver (Mass Market Paperback)
In the book "Silver", by Norma Fox Mazer, the main characters are Sarabeth Silver, Patty Lewis, Grant Varrow and Mark Embelsky. Sarabeth Silver is a simple girl who lives in a trailer park with her mom. Sarabeth's best friends call her Silver. Patty Lewis is a very confused, cold, girl. She lives with her uncle, whom she hates, because her mother cannot afford to rent an apartment.. Grant Varrow is the girl Sarabeth had to be friends with. Grant was popular and hung out with a "clique", consisting of Asa, Jennifer, and Patty. Mark Embelsky was the boy Silver liked. Mark goes to a different school and is obsessed with "Saving Mother Earth". The setting of this book is in Roadview Trailer Park and Drumins. Sarabeth Silver lives in the part of Roadview Trailer Park that is part of the Drumins School district.. Silver moved there because Silver's mom wanted her to go to the best school. Drumins is a rich town and everybody there has at least 3 cars. Silver, being poor, feels extremely out of place there until she meets Grant. ... I enjoyed this book because of the way the author grabbed the reader into the book. I take pleasure from books that are different and the strong subject of this book is not found in any books. The book "Silver" had something I have never in life thought about much. It was the most engaging and hysterical book I've ever read. I recommend it to any mature girl wo wants to read something out of the ordinary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, November 18, 2001

I am 20 years old, and still call this adolescent paperback one of my favorite books in the world. The first time I read the trials of Sara Beth Silver, I clearly remember tears streaming down my face. From then on, every book I have ever read has been compared to Silver. Norma Fox Mazer is incredible for capturing raw emotions in all of her books and making the characters relatable.
After reading Silver, I came away learning a life lesson I shall never forget. Money cannot buy one happiness, friends or love. I know now, that I would rather lack material things and money but be rich in love and friendship. I highly recommend this book for people of all ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is one of the best books I have ever read., October 29, 1997

This review is from: Silver (Mass Market Paperback)
Silver Norma Fox Mazer Sarabeth Silver's mother is determined that she will live a great life that is better than her own. Sarabeth's mother makes her transfer to another school where all the rich kids go. At first Sarabeth does not fit in, but she soon becomes part of a clique of the most popular girls. As Sarabeth grows closer to the group of girls, she finds out a horrible secret that proves rich people don't have it all. This book is a definite page turner. Once you start reading it, you won't want to put it down. It keeps you at the edge of your seat until you are finished. This book is perfect for teenagers. Once you start reading the book, you might notice that you can relate to the characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't jugde a book by its cover, January 6, 2004

Silver is a good book for young adults. This book talks about a young girl who's mom is a house keeper. She goes to a new Middle school where the rich kids go to. At first she feels uncomfortable at the school she attends because she didn't know nobody there but then she starts getting friends. Frinds that have painful secrets. This book is about how teenagers help each other in different situations. As a 15 year old I feel that this book was for younger girls than 15 but it really was interesting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Silver Sparkles!, July 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Silver (Mass Market Paperback)
Sarabeth Silver is a teen who lives in a trailer park with hermom and cat, Tobias. When she transfers schools during the middle ofthe year, she starts to envy a clique of four girls - Patty, Asa, Jennifer, and her "idol", Grant. Sarabeth is taken by surprise when Grant "adopts" her and becomes her best friend, AND allows her into the clique.

Sarabeth still favors Grant through her transition. But when Patty reveals a shocking secret to her they become very good friends, much to Grant's dismay. Patty's secret could force her and her mother out of their glamorous mansion or cause her more pain than she has ever experianced.

This book was very good. The only complaints I have is that some plots were not developed fully and Patty's secret (I'm not a surprise spoiler!) was. . . well you'll have to read the book and find out!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Silver (Mass Market Paperback)
Silver was one of the best books I have ever read! This is a heart-filled book about hard times with family and friends. From reading what the character Sarabeth goes through has made me realize that it's not easy being in jr high especally when you live in a trailer park and you go to a school that is nothing but wealthy people. But that wasn't the only thing that Sarabeth went through, She also lost her father when she was only three! Iam glad that I read this book because it was very exciting and new, if you want to know what else happens then I suggest that you read it for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars a great book for n-e-one, March 7, 2000

This review is from: Silver (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book because of the feelings "Silver" had made me look at all the things that were not so in focus but touchable to me. I loved how many times she relized money isn't everything but it sure helps. This book helped me brige the gap between elementry and Jr. High, how I felt about not seeing my friends and having to make new ones. The mother reminded me alot of my own .Always wanting the best for me and siblings . After I read this book I thanked her and told her I loved her

5.0 out of 5 stars Money isn't everything, December 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Silver (Mass Market Paperback)
Of all NFM's books, this one is my favorite. It is humorous and touching. It's about a teenager named Sarabeth who lives in a trailer park. Her mother makes them move into a new trailer so they'll be in a different school district and Sarabeth can get a better education at a different school. Unfortunately, most of the kids at Sarabeth's new school are wealthy, and she isn't. Nevertheless, she makes friends with a clique of rich girls. Through them, she learns that money can't buy happiness. One aloof girl named Patty has a crucial problem. What is it? Can Sarabeth help her? Sarabeth also has troubles of her own with Mark, her new boyfriend. Any teenage girl could relate to at least some of the situations in "Silver". This is a great book that almost anyone would enjoy.
