Book Description

December 13, 2010
"The nameless girl sang, her voice cascading over notes and words as a brook over smooth river-rock...."

In a mining town filled with forgotten men and used up women, a handcuffed girl and her deaf guard arrive just as a blizzard descends. Lured by the girl's singing and driven by an old obsession, one man releases an ancient spirit that could destroy the town and the estate it supports.

As the year wears on, the murderous spirit tightens its grip on the town and the estate, living on an ever-rising wind that descends from the mountain. Brave and holy men seek to destroy the evil, but few return alive. Those who do return have few wits left.

When others fail, a donkey handler named Clem must risk the simple, peaceful life he's carved for himself to save it from destruction. Unfortunately, Clem knows that when the wind comes down the mountain, even the most steadfast men can't resist its call.

Silver Thaw January 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Silver Thaw, a novella, by Amy Rose Davis, is one of those wonderful pieces of fiction that comes at you out of the blue. I didn't have a clue as to plot or setting, only that it was fantasy. Well, change fantasy to a fantastic read and you have it. I was hooked in the first paragraph. The world Ms. Davis creates incorporates echoes of myth and history into an absorbing and exciting narrative. Metaphor, syntax, language, and style are woven together so skillfully that an entire world arises within your imagination. The hint of familiarity is the familiarity that seizes one when a master storyteller begins, "Once upon a time." But her characters are not mere clichés. They make you privy to their conflicts, desires, and dilemmas. The story is told through four major characters, and uses a seasonal device to move the plot forward. It begins in Winter and ends in Autumn. The mystery of a strange singing maiden and the reason she wears a silver collar and wrist chains keep the pages turning. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys legend, myth, or fantasy. Now I simply must read her next book, Ravenmarked.

More About the Author

Amy Rose Davis is an independent epic fantasy author. She lives in Oregon with her husband, Bryce, and their four children. Bryce provides comic relief, editing, and inspiration, and regularly talks her off the various ledges she climbs onto.

Amy is an unapologetic coffee addict, but her other vices include chocolate, margaritas, and whiskey. She prefers cats to dogs (but houses both), loves the color green, and enjoys the smell of new pencils and crayons. She has eclectic tastes in friends, music, and books, and is as likely to watch "300" as "Becoming Jane."

Amy is hard at work on "Bloodbonded," book two of her five-book epic fantasy series The Taurin Chronicles.
