Book Description

February 2002
In a world where a little voice seems to be running the show, A Silver Tongue is a love story at it's most obsessive; a twisted, gritty tale of sex and violence, full of suspense, set in a quiet Philadelphia neighborhood. Gregory Washington, a stressed out Air Traffic Controller, takes 29-year-old wife Tuesday, to places where only the worst nightmares come true. Nothing is held back as the graphic details of this story unfold. Hold on to your seats as you read how Tuesday is forced to deal with the growing mental instability of her once loving and faithful husband. Bizarre is the only way to describe the perfectly executed turn of events in this compelling narrative.

Riveting and informative.... The unique webbing allows readers to take this page-turner to the very end. -- Denyse Hicks, Ph.D., December 10, 2001

About the Author

Marlene Taylor, mother of two; a nationally recognized author, speaker and businesswoman is a firm believer in taking the cards one has been dealt in life, and using them to one's very best advantage. Hence, the title of her first novel, Life Is What You Make It, Darlin'. Having come from humble beginnings herself, in her hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she is a living testament to the power of positive thoughts in action.

Ms. Taylor, whom some refer to as a creative marketing genius, now sees her mission as to help further efforts in uplifting our nation - by networking with small African American business-owners, assisting them in the development of their business and marketing plans. A self-starter, Ms. Taylor made her own way, graduating from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Having first worked for NCR as a territory manager, Ms. Taylor founded and grew her own million-dollar printing and direct marketing company in 1987.

Throughout the years, Ms. Taylor served on many boards of non-profit and for profit organizations, and received several titles including Business Executive of the Year from the former New-Penn-Del Minority Business Development Council. This was after a six-year stint in the Air Force working as an Air Traffic Controller. Ms. Taylor was selected to teach Air Traffic Control and did so for three years. And, because of her outstanding teaching ability, Ms. Taylor was then named to lead more than 15,000 Air Traffic Control students through the rigors of the control tower flight simulator, which she headed for more than two of those years. For her efforts she has received numerous commendations and citations from notable persons, including Hans Mark, the former Secretary of Defense.

Her writing career has taken Ms. Taylor to new heights, where she has self-published two books and is a contributing writer for the African American bridal magazine, For You as well as others.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lies, Drugs and insanity..huh?, May 18, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Silver Tongue (Paperback)
Silver Tongue wasn't about abuse as much as it was
unrealistic. Tuesday Washington is a lawyer, mother of
2 sets of twins, married to Gregory and finds herself
in a nightmare she can't seem to awaken from. Gregory
Washington is a successful Air Traffic Controller,
father and husband to Tuesday. He is riding on a
roller coaster of insanity, but why?

I found Silver Tongue to be a fast and interesting
read but the book lacks realistic situations. It seems
the author wanted the reader to know that Battered
Women's Syndrome knows no class of people. Whether
your white or blue collar, it can find it's way into
your home. I am still a tad bit confused regarding
Gregory's background.

I had a hard time with Tuesday's character she was too
naïve to the ways of the world. As a lawyer I am sure
she had to come in contact with all kinds of
characters. Once she was presented with situations
regarding her husband I thought she should've been
more alert.

Marlene Taylor has a knack for telling a story and I
would certainly read her next book. I love the way she
gets right to the point no fluff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Voices in my head, May 21, 2002

This review is from: A Silver Tongue (Paperback)
Have you ever heard the expression that everyone hears voices? If so, then you can identify with Gregory Washington: husband, father of 4 and air traffic controller who feels as though he exists inside of a pressure cooker. Gregory or GB as the voices demand that he be called, has waged a war of destruction and terror against his unsuspecting wife Tuesday and their children. He is mentally unstable and does not even realize it.

Tuesday Washington, is a smart and beautiful attorney whose life on the surface appears to be perfect. But appearances can be deceiving. By day she is a hard working attorney, by night she is running from a mentally unstable husband who also mentally and physically abuses her. Greg, as is the case with many batterers, has 2 faces a public face and a private face. Because he presents himself to the world as perfect, no one believes Tuesday when she reaches out for help.

In A Silver Tongue by Marlene Taylor, the evils of abuse and mental illness are explored. As a reader, you get to experience life through the eyes of a mentally ill Greg and you feels Tuesday's fear and hopelessness with the situation that her family is in. Marlene Taylor has written a heartbreaking but very well told story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Now this is what suspense is all about, May 6, 2002
This review is from: A Silver Tongue (Paperback)
Silver Tounge has love, sex, tragedy, and shows psycho behavior that rivals Fatal Attraction and Sleeping with the Enemy. The writing is fast paced and gets to the point immediately. I feared for Tuesday and her boys and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Two things I really liked about this book: First,Tuesday is not a stupid who created her own mess and second, the author does a brilliant job of showing the difference between Gregory, a good, loving man and G.B. a monster in human form. I read part of this book while waiting for my bus and it was so engaging I didn't even notice or mind when the bus finally came and left without me.
