I have had regular back pain caused by scoliosis. A restful night's sleep was difficult to come by on my regular innerspring mattress. When I decided to jump on the memory foam mattress band wagon, I researched everything from Tempurpedic's 5.3 lb. density luxury dream mattress (and even went to Brookstone to enjoy a lunch time, mock-siesta on a few of the samples), to Walmart's 2.5 lb. density imitation (which, by the way, happens to run about the same price as SleepShop's higher quality version).

In short, I decided to purchase this mattress on the strength of its density rating, and the reviews here on Amazon. Needless to say, when the mattress arrived, we discovered that it was a thick, quality looking and feeling product (not to mention a heavy one). It feels to me to be similar in firmness to Tempurpedic's "Original Bed." When you first lay on it, it may seem as though nothing special happens, but you'll soon find that the memory foam begins to do its job as you feel yourself enveloped by the quilted material. True to the advertisements, the memory foam molds to your body and cradles you in a state of suspended animation.

In the end, I have slept like never before on this mattress. I have woken up at 5am each morning feeling rested and pain-free. As hyped as this testimonial may sound, it does not even begin to chronicle the benefits I have derived from this mattress in the short time I have owned it. The moral here is: this bed is well worth the price tag.

A few other small notes for the conscientious shopper:

-- I received a shipping notification email from SleepShop a day after I'd placed my order on Amazon.

-- The mattress arrived by FedEx (who dutifully brought it up the stairs and laid it on the bedroom floor for me) 2 business days after I had made the purchase.

-- The content of the warranty information is indeed puny and the company seems averse to putting their contact information in the public view, but one hopes that neither will ever be needed.

-- And finally, yes, there is a "plastic" smell that emanates from the product and lingers in the air for about a week or so. I can imagine that those with particularly sensitive noses might find this off-putting, but don't let that discourage you from purchasing this mattress. Even if this bed smelled like sauerkraut for a year, I would still happily traipse off to bed for night after night of comatose-like bliss with fairies and sugarplums dancing in my head--only with a nose plug firmly in place. ;)

Well, my three-year old was a bit disappointed when she discovered that you couldn't bounce on our new mattress, but my wife and I have loved it. My wife, who is pregnant, has loved it since the first night, and no longer has any pain in her sciatic nerve like she did on our previous mattress.

It's very comfortable. I was worried it might be too hard or too soft or not supportive enough, but it really does just feel great. I don't know if the 12" is truly any better than the 10", but we certainly don't regret getting the extra 2 inches of depth.

Negatives:

My wife has mentioned that it has an odor of plastic or something, but I haven't noticed it. She still wouldn't trade it for anything, though. It's only been one week though, and even that may dissipate with a little more time.

And the warranty is actually pretty limited. Nevertheless, if we have to pay to replace it even 5 years from now, it will have been worth it.

So I guess it really is a 20 year warranty, though it reads like you're only covered for 10 years.

My wife is returning our un-opened Tempurpedic-brand pillows so we can buy the much cheaper versions from Sleep Shop.

This bed is simply fantastic. I have a lot of back problems that prevented me from sleeping through the night. Since we got this bed about 1 month ago, I haven't been up with back pain once and don't constantly toss and turn all through the night to get comfortable. The quality of my sleep had improved beyond belief. My husband says he is sleeping better too.

We had slept on a Tempur-Pedic while on vacation and liked it. Since that vacation we had been discussing buying one but I really didn't like the price that went with the Tempur-Pedic brand. When I found this bed on Amazon I had a hard time convincing my husband to try it. He was hesitant because he thought it was so much cheaper than the equivalent Tempur-Pedic (or any decent traditional mattress for that matter) it couldn't possible be any good. Fortunately I was persistent enough to wear him down.

We are both extremely happy with the bed. He says he notices a slight difference between this bed and the name brand one but I don't. (I don't think it could get any better than this bed.) I've become a walking advertisement to all our friends and family. It has been great for us.

I have noticed that the price on this bed has changed quite a bit. When I first looked at the bed it was $150 cheaper than it was the day I wrote this review. I'm not sure if it jumps around or if it has been steadly been going up. The bed would still be well worth the price at $150 more.

Shipping was no problem; the bed arrived a little over a week after we ordered it. I did e-mail the Sleep Shop a couple of times about shipping and deliver and got very good customer service. The bed did have an odor when you first open it but that dissipates within a couple of weeks. I did not receive a copy of a warranty with the bed and have to contact the Sleep Shop about getting one but as another reviewer said even if you have to replace it every 5-10 years it would be worth it.

Having slept on this bed for over a month now, here are my thoughts:

1. For a few months I started having back problems (I am 34 and an athlete), decided to switch the mattress to help it, and this one has done just that. I really like the mattress. It is comfortable yet still somewhat firm - very supportive of the lower back (i.e. cannot feel any separation between back and mattress when I put my hand back there)

2. Mattress is heavy. Took a huge effort to get this mattress in place. Definitely useful to have a second person.

3. I did not have much a problem with the smell. I opened the mattress and let it sit in the living room for 4 days before switching it out and the smell is gone.

4. One problem to note, and I am not sure if this is the same with Tempurpedic, you have to sleep/lie at least a foot from the edge (maybe not if you are smaller. I am 6'2" 205lbs) else the edge of the bed ends up collapsing too much to support you. This is the case with a spring mattress, but not usually this far from the edge. Needless to say it does turn the queen bed into something somewhat smaller than before.

5. Customer support is awesome, particularly Tony. When I received the mattress I washed the cover (gentle cycle) to help get rid of the smell. Unfortunately, the memory foam in the cover tore off in some places. Turns out that with this cover it needs to be handwashed. The tag was not clear on this, and is now being fixed. Without a single argument, Tony had a new cover shipped out to me at no charge. It arrived 5 days later. Buying from an internet company is always iffy, but this one was great.

Ordered the bed in Jan. through Amazon.com. There is no other word to describe it except "fabulous." Worth every cent... and what a deal! I have had no back problems and nothing less than a perfect night's sleep since I got the bed.

I tried the Tempurpedic Grand in several local bed stores and was hesitant to purchase a knockoff. However, I was pleasantly surprised as this bed feels identical to the Tempurpedic for much less money. It arrived within 3 business days of ordering and was fully expanded within a couple of hours. There was very little odor as has been reported by some. I am very happy with the mattress and the company. Their warehouse shipped me a King instead of a California King. They were very apologetic. After discussing my options, I decided to keep the bed and just get a new frame. The company credited back $200 for my trouble. They have a great product and even better customer service. I will definitely purchase from them in the future.

Since sleep comfort is such an individual thing, here's my profile:
I'm a side sleeper, 6'1", about 230 lbs (some extra around the middle).
Previous mattresses: Simmons Beautyrest, Sealy Posturepedic.

Like all really good viscoelastic foam, this mattress conforms to your body shape with heat (Note: its quite firm when cold). The process takes about 30 seconds once you stop moving. Once done, your body weight is really well distributed. The manufacturer got the density right on this model. The top 2" or so have a fair amount of give , so it conforms well, while the lower layers are much firmer for support.

So, how am I sleeping? Like the dead! I used to roll constantly on innerspring mattresses. I've had this foam mattress for a month now, and there have been several nights where I HAVEN'T ROLLED ONCE! I figure that I'm rolling about 2-5 times most nights. In addition, I've had no back pain since! Finally, it doesn't sleep hot like some foam mattresses. This model has a very high quality cover that distributes heat nicely.

Some thoughts for other types of sleepers: I figure that this mattress would also be great for a back sleeper (I've never been as comfortable lying on my back as I am on this mattress). Stomach sleepers, however, should probably steer clear. The combo of no skeletal support and high heat reserves from all of that blood flowing around your stomach makes for an uncomforable experience on foam. I've lain on my stomach a couple of times to try it out, and I feel my gut sinking deep into the mattress, while the rest of my body stays on top.

Another thing that may be a turnoff for some people (doesn't bother me) is that, since the mattress conforms to you, it takes more effort to roll or get up than on an innerspring. It takes a bit of getting used to.

Review of sale: Amazon was great, as usual. Dynasty fulfilled this order within a few hours, and it arrived in 4 days. The mattress inflated in a few hours, there was very little foam smell, and I slept peacefully on it that evening.

Overall, 5 stars, and I would gladly purchase again!

I'm always skeptical of who is writing these reviews, but I'm hoping I'm objective enough to convince you this is valid. And maybe prepare you for what you might encouter when purchasing this mattress.

We thought we had made a huge mistake purchacing this mattress. The first one arrived damaged. The second was sealed in a plastic package, and when we opened it in our room there was a potent smell being emitted from the foam. We still tried to sleep on it, but decided to move to our quest bedroom within an hour. We left our bedroom windows open and door shut for a little over a week. Thankfully the smell left.

As if the smell weren't enough, the mattress proved to be very very firm, and slow to react when we changed sleeping positions. The mattress was my choice, and I could tell my wife was losing patience. We went and purchased a down-like matress topper. The topper made the mattress bearable, but still not all that great.

Over the next week or two we became pleasently surprized as the mattress "broke in." It became much softer-though it still gives firm support-and it responds much faster to change of position. After a month or so we spun the bed 180 degrees in order to use the weight of our upper body to break in the foot of the bed. Since we let the smell fade and the mattress soften up, we both agree we've never slept better. It's safe to say we'll never go back to a "traditional" mattress. Looking back our patience was worth the difference in $$$ between the name brand foam mattresses. We rave about how comfortable our new bed it to all who will listen.

First of all, let me say that before I got this bed I was having significant joint problems. It was a medical problem I'd had my whole life, and as I've gotten older, it was becoming unbearable. I didn't know what else to do other than take supplements & daily Tylenol, etc., but it wasn't enough. Once we found out that we were going to have a child, I knew that I needed to do something more proactive. I'd always heard that memory foam was a much more comfortable alternative to traditional beds, and I'd heard other people say it really helped their aching joints, so I figured I had nothing to lose. After I got this bed, everything changed. My joint pain went away within 2 weeks, and I haven't had to take a single joint supplement or Tylenol...even as my pregnancy progresses! I have to say, I'm only in my 30's & I didn't realize just how "old" I felt all day, every day....just because I was sleeping on the wrong bed. I will always have joint issues, but this bed has seriously changed my life. I feel younger, there's no pain left at all, and I feel more rested. I COULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS BED MORE HIGHLY. In fact, I'm recommending this exact bed to my entire family. Later, I also added a memory foam pillow ("YouMe" memory foam pillow) to enhance the experience...

This is not a review simply written immediately after receiving the bed...I waited several months before writing this review, because I really wanted to see the lasting results. I also did some serious research before choosing this exact bed & it was worth it...It's a GREAT deal on a TOP quality bed, and I'm never going back to a traditional bed again.

I loooove this bed! My sister owns a tempur pedic which i have slept on many times and i swear this bed feels the same! I spent 6mo (atleast) researching many diffrent memory foam/latex beds online and testing mattressess at stores and I ended up choosing this one which is memory/latex mix and couldnt be more pleased. I sleep so much better than i did before with spring mattress. This was my first memory foam and i will NEVER go back to spring mattress!

FACT: You really cannot feel when other person moves in bed. My 10mo old baby sleeps all night long now because he doesnt feel my movements but w/spring mattress he awoke almost everytime i moved. But 14in depth made it hard to find safty rail to keep baby from falling out bed. FACT: It feels like im layin in someones arms..like its alive, because you literally feel it comforming/molding to YOUR body. NOt a light "springy" feel at all, more like dense and "doughy" feel. The last few nights i have even layed in bed to watch a movie before doozing off while before i used to sit at computer and watch movies. FACT: This bed stinks at first! After opening it had chemical smell, not like new car, more like the way a painted room smells after 3rd day of drying. Now this smell gave me a headache for 2 days because of rain i barley had windows open so fumes lingered but after 1 week smell was gone. FACT: After 2nd & 3rd night of sleep i awoke with neck/upperback pain and i figured out it was caused by me using mushy polyester, high loft pillow. I believe with this bed u must use a somewhat "flat" supportive pillow because after sleeping on an old flat pillow i keep around only for guests it did the trick (weird)! I even experimented by taking a nap with NO pillow and still awoke feeling great. It has been over one week and no pain what so ever. So now my quest is to buy Firm Foam Pillow (not too high or too plush) to couple with my bed.

So basically i rate this bed a FIVE STAR and the only bad side was the smell which i had already expected and i have to buy new pillows but thats ok to me. It was well worth the $1095 w/free shipping. Now if only this bed doesn't make me sweat terribly this summer(heard memory foam holds heat) and if it can last atleast 10years then i'll keep buying this bed for life!...look for my review of new foam pillow i'll be choosing either latex or memory foam soon. :)
