No experience with Tempurpedic but this is nice!,
By
This review is from: SilverRest Sleep Shop Therapeutic 12-Inch Memory Foam Mattress, Queen Size (Misc.)
I read reviews for the same sleepshop mattress without the dual air flow. This one has two eggcrate pieces of foam to form the base. Not sure if it makes much difference but I heard the Tempurpedic design is similar and for 3 bucks more I figured what the heck. It has a mattress cover which can be unzipped and washed. I have never slept on a memory foam mattress but I must say that I like it alot. When you first lie down on the mattress it feels a bit firm but when the foam begins to conform that is when it feels great giving even support throughout your body. If you move a lot during sleep it takes getting used to the bumps caused by your former position until the foam comforms to your new position. There is a chemical smell but it needs some time to air out. I dont feel it is that noticeable unless I stick my face in the mattress. Shipping was good. It came by Fedex and I received a tracking number. Ordered it on 7/9 and received it on 7/14. I cannot imagine a tempurpedic being that much better especially with a 1500 dollar increase in price.

I like it. My wife and I decided to get a new mattress. I had originally intended to get a standard Box Spring set and was a bit surprised at how much a new set costs. I also sleep face down and often have a sore back. I did some inter-net reading on Memory Foam and then went by a local shop, which will give you a minimal introduction. Clearly one really needs to spend the night on one to get a real idea, it was hard but not objectionable at the store. I was able to tell that I liked the ten inch more than the seven inch, seems like the thickness gives a softer impression, at least at first. Cut to the chase, I purchased this one. I placed my order online with Amazon Sunday and went with this 12" thick mattress (more is better). Monday I got tracking information with FedX and was able to follow it. I work the overnight shift and at 3 a.m. Thursday it was noted to be in town and on a truck for delivery, came about 9:30 to my door. I was able to carry it upstairs myself as it's "rolled" and compressed. It is heavy close to 100 pounds so just be aware but a strong healthy person can get it up on a shoulder for a short carry. I decided to just throw it on my box spring even though I was a bit afraid of the height as it would be 4 inches higher than the bed now. You have to be careful removing the wrap but it is not difficult. The mattress un-rolls and starts to "inflate" it does have a smell for sure. We had an anti-allergy cover on our old bed so I put the mattress in there. We have a dual control heated pad that went on next and used a little Febreze, next a very thin cheap mattress pad just to cover my wifes heat system and sheets. The bed set-up is high this way but it looks good on our bed frame. If it looked odd I was going to dump the box springs and just put a platform on the frame but my wife likes the look, so I think I'm done. Most importantly it is a big hit with the cats. Last night was the first to sleep on the bed and bottom line, very comfortable! No back pain in the morning for me and I really don't think it will take anytime for me to adjust, actually I would say I'm well adjusted. I'm sure that one really needs to use it a month to give a valid review so take what I say on comfort with a grain of salt but day one my back is happy. However, on price, delivery, initial reaction and comfort I'm very impressed. For those with a sensitive nose the anti-allergy bag and a bit of FeBreze seem to cure that 98% even on day one.I came back to give an up-date as a few weeks has gone by but I see (at least now) it is unavailable? The mattress is very nice, going on 3 weeks and we have no complaints. The bed is very comfortable and isolates movements or I should say the preception of the "other" persons movements. One does not seem to toss and turn as much and I for one have less back pain. Last week my wife hurt her back so the mattress is not an "instant" cure. She does feel that the mattress is a help but clearly her back is bothering her since she hurt it. One does not "sink" as deep as I thought but it clearly conforms to the body. Mind you, our small cat (9 pounds) barley makes a dent but he is also very fond of the bed. For a "face-down" sleeper it's very nice. I don't think it would be fair to compare it to my old spring mattress as that one was over 10 years old and surely not a top of the line model. As other have said not sure if the "Dual Air Flow" makes any difference but both my wife and I a very pleased. At this point, I'd say I'm a "Memory Foam" kind-o-guy. It's a bit odd to sit on the edge, like to put on shoes as one really sinks in but with our setup it's a bit high for that anyway. I don't know why it's unavailable but if one is interested in this type of bed this one is very comfortable and we have been pleased with the price, speed of delivery and the apparent quality of the product. I'll stop by in 10 or 20 years and let ya'll know how it holds up!

Great mattress Great deal Same as tempurpedic,

This review is from: SilverRest Sleep Shop Therapeutic 12-Inch Memory Foam Mattress, Queen Size (Misc.)
I own both a tempurpedic, and this 12 inch Queen mattress. I actually like the this mattress better, because of the fact that this mattress has a 5 pound, five inch layer of the Tempur Visco Elastic memory foam material on top of the bottom layer. It is probably impossible to find any other mattress for this price, at this quality. If you are thinking of getting a tempurpedic, really consider getting one of these because they are just as good, if not better than certain temperpedic models. If you do check out the tempurpedic, make you you find out how thick and what the density of the tempur material is. You defenetely dont want to pay 1500 dollars or more just to get the name tempurpedic on a mattress that only has 2 inches of 3 pound visco elastic memory foam on it, and then have ten inches of just regular foam. The most importamt issue you want to consider is the density and thickness of the actual visco elastic memory foam. if you get it too thin and with not enough density, you will not have enough support. I would not recomend getting less than 3.5 pound foam, or less than 4 inches of the actual memory foam. Good luck. Just one last thing to remember, Tempurpedic has had a wonderful hundred million dollar ad campaign, dont over pay for just a name, because generic memory foam is just the same. Look around, your mattress is one of your most important purchases, take your time

We just couldn't see paying the excessive price of the Tempur-pedic so we thought we'd try this one. So far, we are very impressed. The initial smell of the foam, while not pleasant, was not that bad and did fade away after a few days. Also, it has a zippered cover that can be removed and washed. At first it seems very firm, but it just takes a few nights of adjusting to the "contouring" of the mattress, and we sleep very well now. No tossing and turning. No back aches. We would certainly recommend this mattress to others.

I had always wondered about Tempurpedic. That happened because I used to be interested in Sleep Research and a visit to a New York City hotel that had a great Bed. Unfortunately, I did not write down the name of the hotel or bed and it's been too many years now for me to remember. However, I did remember that it had some sort of memory foam on it so I left with a good impression and purchased this mattress.Well, here is what some people will find....I slept on it for 7 nights. First night great. Then, I began to notice a slight give in my hip area...(I'm 6'0, 195 lbs). I thought, this is the bed forming to my shape - great! I then a few days later I began to have "hip pain". Hummm, first time I felt it I ignored it. Next night, ignored it though it was slightly worse. 7th night on the bed, 3rd night of hip pain - I had to get off the bed - I could not sleep or even get comfortable! I had never ever had had a problem before so was confused until my fiancé also started complain about mysterious back pain. It doesn't take much for me to react. After talking a little we switched back to our previous mattress and then next morning all pains were gone - happy city. Both of us felt great. So, motto is...this may work for some people and won't for others. I gave the mattress away after 2 weeks. The person I gave it to gave it to her kids because she started mysterious back pain...she figured the kid was very, very light but is keeping an ear on things to make sure the kid doesn't complain. On the store purchase side of things ... Bed was delivered quickly. It was wrapped well. Looked great! The mattress smelled a little but nothing too serious. Like a newly painted room. I'm giving the mattress 3 stars. It wasn't good for me but it might be for you. Goodness knows the mattress has been getting good reviews here. Wish it worked for me but it didn't. If you start to develop mysterious aches after purchasing it get off immediately and see if you feel better without it. Evidently, some humans need the kind of 'give' that a foam mattress provides and others of us don't need it at all.

I bought the queen 12" therapeutic 5lb viscoelastic memory foam mattress September 18, 2010. It's now November 6th, so I feel I can review it more accurately. It arrived quickly and upon opening and unpacking, I noticed it was made by Delandis Mattress. Of course I looked them up to see what the deal was. A chinese manufacturing company partnered with a Maryland company, Interesting. It was definitely much firmer than I expected, not necessarily a bad thing. My friend has a sleep science memory foam mattress she got from Costco and I think hers is too soft. My husband liked it immediately, when he lay down on it. We both started sleeping with less tossing and turning, the first night. I noticed my chronic aching shoulder doesn't hurt as much to sleep on and my chronic aching hip definitely hurts less to sleep on. However we had to sleep with the windows wide open because of the off-gasing. After 3 weeks, I still smelled that memory foam smell. My husband didn't mind but then again his nose is by the window. After 5 weeks I went to the doctor because I was feeling bad. Aching all over-tired -listless. After much grilling from my MD, he thought that I was experiencing toxicity from the smell. He said that some of us are just like the "canary in the coal mine". I called DynastyMattress and they said could send it back no problem. I should buy some mattress covers from Uhaul and wrap it double, fold it and ship it back. Probably $100. If there was a problem with charges, dynastymattress would call and try to bargain with the shipping company to bring costs down. I thought they were really nice and honorable. So I bought the plastic mattress covers from uHaul for $3.95 each and slipped the mattress into 2 covers. It suddenly occurred to me to perhaps try the mattress out while covered before sending it back. That night, I felt like I was sleeping in wonderful fresh, clean air, and I slept so soundly. All the sheets slid off however and the bed was quite slippery. I took off one of the plastic mattress covers as I noticed that the slippage was plastic against plastic. I went to IKEA and bought a rubberized sheet mattress protector and it adhered to the plastic and stopped the slippage. So now it's been almost 2 weeks and I think I've solved my issues and think I have a viable solution for anyone who experiences similar smell sensitivity or toxicity symptoms to me. Just buy a Uhaul $3.95 mattress cover and a $24 IKEA waterproof sheet. The plastic doesn't seem to affect me like that memory foam off-gasing. I no longer feel the need to return the mattress, though I hope the firmness will give a little. Hope this helps someone.ADDENDUM:9/8/11 almost 1 year after purchase After 8 months, I finally removed the plastic around it. NO SMELL Whatsoever. It had been venting out the bottom opening. I can say that without the plastic covering it is much more comfortable. It is still a 5.3 lb density mattress and ideally for me, I think I would prefer a 4.5 lb density mattress-But they don't make any in that density yet. It's been a year since I bought it and I probably could have removed the plastic after a few months instead of waiting for 8 months- but frankly it didn't occur to me that it would ever off gas-let alone from the small opening at the bottom. I think this is a good mattress. It hasn't disintegrated, clumped, lumped or holed, so it will probably last the 10 years relatively in tact. Anyway, I haven't come up with a better sleeping solution for us.

I have had a bad back for 25yrs. 4yrs. ago I fell off a roof and broke my back. Needless to say it didn't get any better. I just bought this memory foam mattress from Amazon about a month ago and can truley say it has helped my back more than anything else! I've been to orthopedic surgens and chiropractors. I can get out of bed without having to pull myself up by grabbing the dresser.

After spending multiple hours doing research and shopping online, as well as going out and laying on all the foam mattresses available locally (and nearly going into a seizure when seeing the prices!) I'm SOOOO glad I decided on a whim to check Amazon and found this mattress. The price seems too good to be true (with no sales tax and free shipping!?!) but all the positive reviews and the fact that the spec's match the expensive brand's convinced us to try it.We ordered it on a Friday night, the confirmation came the following Monday morning, and the mattress showed up three days later (after getting a shipment confirmation stating exactly that). Granted, it came from CA and I'm in WA, which isn't a long trip. So the service is definetely 5 stars in my book. The mattress itself is firm, but actually seems to conform more readily than the expensive famous name brand mattresses we tried out in stores. As others mention, and the only thing that keeps this mattress from getting 5 stars is the smell. It would seem wise for the manufacturer to "air them out" a while before packing and shipping them. The smell is not so bad as to give me a headache like most chemical smells do, but you can't ignore it. It's kinda similar to the smell of new pair of sneakers when you first take them out of the box, only stronger. For the first week it didn't seem to subside. Now I've taken the slip cover off of it, take the sheets off every morning and walk around on it several times a day squishing air out of and into it and that seems to be working. I actually am not bothered by the smell at all, but my wife thinks it's got to be unhealthy so is sleeping in the other room 'til the smell goes away....which isn't entirely a bad thing, except I can't be sure if I'm sleeping so much better because of this mattress or because I now get the whole bed to myself! Also worth mentioning is that the warranty is actually more significant than was mentioned in the product description. The doc's that came with the mattress state that (similar to the famous [expensive!] brand) it's warranteed 100% for 10 years, 40% from 11-15 years, and 20% from 16-20 years.

My son needed a new bed to replace his inner spring mattress and we started shopping for one last December. He decided that he really liked memory foam, but wasn't sure about the in-store $2000 price tag. We found this 12" queen w/5" of memory foam for one quarter of the store price and ordered one for him. It was delivered in about a week via FedEx ground. It arrived rolled up, strapped and wrapped in plastic. The outside of the plastic was pretty dirty from shipping. We decided that we'd unwrap it before we took it into the house. We used an ordinary pocket knife to carefully cut off the soiled outer layer of plastic wrap. Underneath that layer of plastic was a pristine and perfectly clean layer of brand new plastic still wrapped around the roll and the straps. That part was really cool, because we still had a nice tidy roll that made it easy to carry. Great job on the packaging. We carried the rolled mattress into the house, put it into place in his bedroom, cut the straps, unwrapped and unrolled the mattress. At this point, the mattress was the correct width and length, but really thin, probably only about 3" or so and was still contained in a plastic vacuum sealed bag. From this point, it was pretty easy. We cut the vacuum seal with scissors, removed the plastic and waited for the mattress to expand. That's a slow process and a little like watching paint dry, so we went to work on another project and walked in to look every few minutes. As promised, it had expanded to 12" within a couple of hours. I understand that some are much more sensitive to smell than others, so this part is very subjective: There was something that I would term a 'clean' smell which neither my son nor I found offensive at all. That smell was completely gone in a few days. My son has slept on it for 6 months now and really likes it. A couple of times when he's been gone overnight, I've slept on it and I like it so much that I ordered one for my bedroom and king and a queen for my Mom & Dad.

The best deal on a good MF mattress,
By Silverfox (N. Hollywood, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SilverRest Sleep Shop Therapeutic 12-Inch Memory Foam Mattress, Queen Size (Misc.)
I purchased this mattress about a week ago, and so far it has been fantastic. It was very easy to 'install', as I just opened it right on my platform bed frame and unrolled it in place. The first think I noticed (or didn't notice) was the lack of that memory foam odor. Many people have talked about how intense the smell is and that it takes a while to dissipate. On first opening this mattress there was actually no odor at all. It wasn't until hours later that the smell was even apparent, and even then, it was very mild. The second issue I was concerned with was how long it would take to 'inflate' and be usable. I've heard people saying they needed to wait at least a day or more, but this mattress was fully expanded within several hours and I was able to sleep on it the same night I opened it. As for the quality of the mattress, it was exactly what I was looking for. My previous memory foam mattress was a bad purchase and had gone completely mushy after about 6 months. So, I was really looking for something quite firm. This mattress delivered! It is very firm, but the memory foam perfectly gives to conform to your body. It doesn't sink too much, though, so that it is still easy to roll over and move around. And it comes right back in to shape when you get up. Granted, this is only after a week. I won't really know for sure until I've had it for a while, but I have a good feeling about it. The very first morning, I did wake up with some stiffness and soreness. I had read that many times it takes a night or two for your body to get used to it. This was exactly the case. Since the first night, I wake up with not a single sore or stiff muscle, very well rested and comfortable. It is also true that these mattresses completely isolate movement. My girlfriend was completely unaware when I get up in the middle of the night. Funny enough, she didn't like this because she likes to know when I'm coming and going, but I have a feeling this benefit will make itself clear! If this mattress holds its form and stays firm and resilient, I can't imagine a better deal. At a good 4x cheaper than a Tempur Pedic, if you are thinking about going this direction, you've found the right deal. |
