Product Description

Color: Black

As SilverStone engineers started working on the third model for the Fortress series, they had contemplated on the future of computer chassis and ways to improve it for home/office integration. So the Fortress FT03’s design goal was to simply give back as much user space as possible by reducing chassis depth to unprecedented level. The engineers also wanted to accomplish the change in design without compromises to the chassis’s ability in accommodating upper mainstream components. Traditional computer chassis designs take up desktop room by not only their physical footprint, but they also require additional space for cable connections. With the FT03, there are no such restrictions because its beautiful, 2.5mm thick, sand-blasted and anodized aluminum outer shells have no cable connectors to be found on all four sides, which frees up tremendous amount of desktop real estate for its users.

The design is very sleek on the outside.

I was looking for a case which I could sit on my desk with a fairly small footprint.

Overall I'm really happy with this case, even if it was a little pricey.

I was looking for a case that was big enough to hold a large video card (think HD 7970), and a huge CPU cooler, while also being a bit portable. When I saw the Silverstone Tek Carrying Bag for Sugo Series or Other SFF Cases (SUGO-PACK) I knew it was going to be very portable. And the specs claimed it could hold bigger video cards than are in existence today, and could handle CPU coolers up to 167mm. They don't lie. I've got a 160mm Thermalright True Spirit (120) and a Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB DDR5 HDMI/DVI-I/Dual Mini DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 11197-01-40G. The video card fit with the stock setup well enough. But I decided to pull the bottom 120mm fan that is at a 45 degree angle and use the optional setup witch is 2 flat mounted 80mm fans at the bottom. With that set up the video card has inches of extra room.

Here's a few tips if you get this case to save you time.

-A Corsair H80 may work. It depends on your motherboard and your patience.

-You have to use a slim line optical drive, something like this: Sony 8X SATA Internal Slim DVD+/-RW Drive Bulk with out Software (AD-7690H-01). To use that drive you need a special power/sata connector that won't come with the drive or your PSU.

This is a very odd case from SilverStone, the reason I say that is this case actually a brand new design I've never seen. I bought and used this case for 3 month since now, I like to share with you guys with my opinions.
Pros:
1.Cooling
90% of the body uses Aluminum which offers very decent cooling performance. The thick piece of solid Aluminum for the HDD is such a wise design to use the whole side panel as heatsink. 3 of 3.5" fans are pre-installed in the case as well which provide a outstanding air flow path.
2.Space
Full size Graphic Card (mine is 6870), full size PSU(mine is Corsair 800W),full size ATX CPU Cooler(mine is Zalman CNPS9900)....nothing more I can expect for a M-ATX case.
3.Expansibility
I had bad experience before with M-ATX cases, they are so small and silly designed which I got a lot of issues of installing additional hard drives or sound card or even memories. FT03 has 3 HDD slots, 1 2.5" SSD slot and 2 USB3.0 ports which really delivers what I want.
Cons:
1.Noise
I'm a serious silent lover. However, these 3 full size fans really make me feel bad(Maybe I'm too picky at this point, the noise is around 40dB-50dB, not too bad for everyone).
2.Aluminum
Aluminum is the main reason I stick with this case. Yet I have to say this is a disaster if you put it in where your kids could reach it. The aluminum is so easy to be scratched and so ugly after the demage done. Just be careful when you move or assemble it, it can be scratched by screws or any metal parts extramly easily.
3.USB ports
As you all know, this case is also a 90 degree up design just like Ravens Series from SilverStone. That means all your DVI/HDMI/USB ports are on top of the case.

I debated with myself over getting this case for what would be my first PC build, knowing that it was a unique case and would require more time and patience than a typical PC case. I also knew I might end up hating the way it looked and didn't want to spend $170 on something I kept hidden out of sight. Having built my PC, though, and used it for almost a week, I can say that I certainly do not hate it. Building in the case is actually rather easy (though cable management can be tricky at times) and there is plenty of room for decent components.

Pros
-A unique design that I really enjoy looking at
-Fairly small footprint
-Top to bottom airflow means you can put the case in a corner without impeding cooling
-Can accommodate full-sized components without too much trouble
-Makes for a fun PC build

Cons
-Cable management can be tricky (I used Velcro Reusable Self-Gripping Cable Ties, 0.5 Inches x 8 Inches Long, Black, 100 Ties per Pack (91140) and highly recommend them)
-Reset button is very easy to push when plugging in headphones or a usb peripheral.
-Side panels are perhaps too easy to remove and could make moving the case a challenge
-The case only allows a slimline slotloading dvd drive (I used Sony AD-7690H-01 8X SATA Internal Slim DVD+/-RW Drive (Black), Bulk w/o Software) though I do like the clean look it gives the case

For those worried about not being able to access the eject button on the dvd drive, I found that if you mount the drive as close to the front panel as possible, simply pressing on the panel in the general area of the button will work.
