A review about the actual soundtrack,
By
This review is from: Silverado: Original Motion Picture Sound Track (Audio CD)
This refers to the great musical score to a very good movie. The music not only fits with the film, but it also is outstanding as a symphonic composition. It's very lively, and completely beautiful. A great score should be able to make you relive the excitment of the film when you hear it, and still make you feel something even if you've forgotten the plot of the film. The soundtrack is a bit short, and there is music in the movie that didn't make the CD. However, all the main themes from the most memorable scenes are here. It's perfect as a soundtrack to the movie, and excellent standing alone as a composition. If you can get a copy, it's worth it. One of those gems that a lot of people have forgotten and not many have, but good enough so that it never should have gone out of print.

Actors? What actors?,

The movie was so-so; but, the music is great. The french horn player, Richard Perissi, is one of the greatest studio artist with this instrument I have ever heard. You might also here him on albums of Frank Sinatra and Barbara Streisand, as well as others. His mastery of the instrument is exillerating! It's a shame that he has retired.

Great western music.,

The music is great fun and tells the story of Silverado as well as the movie does. The music contains all the good western elements: right vs. wrong, romantic moves, celebration of victory, and riding off into the sunset. You can hear the fun of Kevin Costner as Jake, the dry humor of Kevin Kline as Paden, the moral fight of Danny Glover as Mal, and the heroics of Scoot Glenn as Emmett. Great barbecue and house-cleaning music.

THE music for a western horse opera!,

Though I've yet to see the movie in its entirety, the music invokes all the adventure, the realism, and the pageantry of the Old West. A must have. Broughton's score is truly magnificent!

Fabulous soundtrack,

With so few westerns being done anymore, perhaps "Silverado" has no real competition. However, this is a soundtrack written in the grand western movie traditions ala "The Big Country," "The Magnificent Seven," and "The Cowboys." Truly one of the all time best western soundtracks ever. Grand as the vistas in the movie it accompanies, dramatic and thoughtful where it needs to be. This movie without the music wouldn't be nearly as rich and full...the music IS a character in the movie.

Good genre imitation,
By
This review is from: Silverado: Original Motion Picture Sound Track (Audio CD)
The music is masterful and effective, but isolated in its genre. It speaks of forward movement and force, of build and climax, but is imitative and predictable. It needs visual accompaniment, as in film or TV, and has difficulty on its own.
