This is a fabulous, necesary, can't-live-without-it kitchen utensil.
I love mine, and have a spare in the Gifts basket to give to a lucky friend at some point. It keeps butter wonderfully fresh-but-spreadable. I have another butter-keeper that puts the butter directly into the water. More often than not, the butter falls into the butter. This one has a water container underneath the butter dish. It keeps the butter fresh, yet spreadable, and the butter never gets wet. The porcelain lid fits wonderfully. Buy this product!!

Best little helper in my kitchen!!,

I originally had one of the odd shaped ones, and I dont know why they were made that way, but then i saw this cube shaped one like butter comes in and I LOVE IT!! I use it every day, and to answer someone else's question, the butter lasts for days and days without getting that old taste or rancid at all. The Butter stays fresh tasting the whole time. I dont have trouble slicing off a pat of butter either, its soft so just slice it off end of cube easily. Its my favorite item in my kitchen really!!! No one will be sorry once they try this butter boat. Btw, my lid doesnt quite sit perfectly on top either, but it still works just fine. Just remember to put that water in lower dish up to the line on inside mark.

If you like soft butter for your toast, pancakes, baked potatoes, and hate using cold hard butter, this is the best item ever. I have used the butter boat for several years and butter stays fresh and soft for a very long time as long as the expiration date of the butter hasn't been reached. I broke mine and was so happy to find this online as I would miss this item alot.

The butter boat works to keep the butter fresh but spreadable without refrigeration. However, the lid does not fit right. It is not a fatal flaw (it still works) but an irritation.

I had been searching for a Butter Keeper for some time. All of the ones I looked at had shapes unlike the stick butter you normally buy. The Silvermark is very high quality and a regular stick of butter fits in the unit exactly. The one critique keeping this unit from being perfect is that it is a little harder to get a pat of butter out of the unit than expected. Overall it does a great job of keeping the butter firm and fresh and I am happy with its performance.

Others warned the inner boat was *not unglazed* on the bottom and therefore would not work by cooling with the water. My faith in the marketplace said oh, Silvermark will make sure that doesn't happen - NOT. This is a late Victorian invention and would be really great. I too used the bell type for a long time, but got tired of soft butter falling out in to the water. Too bad they didn't undertake this simple design fix. Wish someone would.

This product was as advertised except the little knob on top that you lift the top with was crooked. I don't really care since the last one of these I had the little top thing broke off. The butter boat is the greatest thing for toast or anything else you want butter for and it's too hard to spread. We're happy .. that's all that matters.

Green AND Blue,

My first note would be that the lines on this butter boat are actually green and blue. The thinner lines on the boat and lid are blue. Not a huge issue, but one worth noting.
Secondly, like others, I would agree that the lid isn't the best, it almost needs a deeper lip to keep it from falling into the butter when accidentally bumped. If you are conscience of it, it again isn't a huge issue, but did prevent a higher rating. As for function, it is fine. I can't say that it keeps my butter any fresher or at a better consistency than a sealed plastic dish. I'll keep using it, but I could have gotten by with my Tupperware one just as easily.

Like the concept; not so much the execution,

The first order arrived broken; bad packing. No problem with the return and a new one was shipped out promptly. I really like the concept of this butter boat. The ones that you fill and then flip upside down into the water usually ends up with the butter floating in the water after the butter runs low.
Pros: Upright design, if the butter is soft you can fill it up with more than one stick and it is attractive. So far the butter is staying fresh, but then butter is used quickly in our house. Cons: The lid doesn't fit very well (both boats had this problem) and it says that the bottom is non-glazed or porous so that it absorbs the water to keep the butter fresh. The boats I received are glazed so I don't see how that concept works. Overall, this dish is good and I'm glad I got it but is overpriced for the quality.

Amazing Invention,
I am thrilled that I have finally tried the Butter Boat. This has made my life so much easier. You can leave your butter on the counter in your Butter Boat for days. I would highly recommend this item to anyone who enjoys kitchen gadgets.
