4.0 out of 5 stars Great fantasy story, but..., July 3, 2005
This review is from: Silver's Bane (Paperback)
Silver's Bane was a wonderful read! The story is very engaging and tense, with a very interesting ending (although a little too abrupt for my taste). I would recomend it to anybody that likes fantasy and wants something a little away from what you would call "ordinary" in the fantasy world.

But so far I only said good things about it, so why did I give it 4 stars instead of 5? Well, although it was very interesting to read, I thought that it could have been better. I thought that the characters in times were a little "out of character", getting to conclusions that didn't seem to fit what was portrayed before as what they would think. The whole idea throughout the book that makes you confused about who are the good and evil people accentuated this "out of character" effect.

Anyway, this (mostly subjective) detail did not take out the joy from reading the book. I hope Anne Kelleher continues enriching the fantasy literature for years to come!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Series, March 17, 2007
This review is from: Silver's Bane (Paperback)
The writer of this series saw me inquiring about these books on one of Yahoo's reading groups and graciously offered me the first two books. I am so glad she did. Both books were wonderful and I was thrilled to find out there is a third.

The goblins were horrible villains who feasted on humans and sidhe alike. To control them, a silver caul was created with faery magic. The caul protects the realms for many years but a new sidhe queen sits on the throne and she isn't the leader her mother was.

I love books where multiple groups of people come together for a common cause. When the caul goes missing and the goblins once again overrun both worlds, young heroes from the sidhe and mortal worlds step forward to do their parts to stop the savage goblins. To their horror, the goblins are bigger and fiercer than ever before.

I fell in love with the sidhe and was entranced by their beauty. I could see how mortals would be bedazzled by them. I was equally repulsed by the goblins. Kelleher's descriptions and characterization brought her characters to life for me and I was totally immersed in her worlds. I can't wait to read Silver's Lure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great ending..., May 23, 2005
By
JB Barnes (Boston, Mass) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Silver's Bane (Paperback)
... to an eagerly awaited sequel. Anne Kelleher's Silver's Bane takes up where Silver's Edge leaves off and continues the story of the struggle of Nessa, Cecily and Delphinea to save their worlds from disintegration, chaos and tyranny. In the process, all three young women discover depths of character, inner strengths and love. Unlike Silver's Edge, where the emphasis was on the fantasy, Silver's Bane develops the relationships of the three heroines and their respective (and sometimes unlikely) heros.
