Good for What it Claims to Be,
This review is from: Silver's Spells for Abundance (Silver's Spells Series) (Paperback)
I usually write my own spells, but picked this one up for inspiration. It's been well worth it on that count. Some of the spells I liked so much that I will be using them myself. Granted most of the spells are the usual formulaic correspondence recipie type spell (use this ingredient on this phase of the moon, turn around 3 times while chanting this, etc.)that seem like they are straight out of Charmed's book of shadows. If that kind of thing works well for you, great. Others, though, are wonderfully creative - the type of spell that I have found work best.
Silver goes into some of the psychology of spellworking, like not assuming failure if it's taking longer than you expected for your desire to manifest and how to deal with it when your luck backslides a bit. That's helpful. I was more than a little surprised to see the book attacked so badly for not being what it didn't claim to be. There is nothing on the cover or in the introduction to suggest that it is a book on advanced magical work or a treatise on the "true" meaning of Wicca (which, BTW, has as a many varieties as there are denominations of Christianity). It claims to be a spell book, and that is what it is. My advice to anyone considering this book is that you can get something out of it if you want to. It's a real shame when people let their own bloated egos get in the way of finding the good in things.

Not the best book on occult practice, but creative.,

Ok, I've NEVER liked Silver Ravenwolf's books. The ones I have browsed (To ride a silver broomstick, etc) I found to be a very fluff-commercial type of applied magic. No thank you.
But, I will say this. Magic is tied to tradition. ALWAYS. The success of your magic and working is dependent upon 2 things: focus of will, and IMAGINATION. So when it came time for me to shift the energy to create more cash, I turned to these books because, while corny, offer some imaginative spells that draw the energy of cash into my life. Sure, making a magical bill box that banishes negativity on bills Im sure is of very little occult value, but the point is that it works on your psychology. And you know what? Ive experienced success with these. Meaning I have seen results, even as slight as a change of mindset. This book is by no means a value to magical theory or application. It gives you good ideas on how to APPLY YOUR PRE-EXISTING KNOWLEDGE OF MAGIC! Id say if you didnt know what the hell you're doing, this book would suck for you. It would have very little potency. And it would do some good to read the classics like Crowley, Fortune and Regardie before you even consider reading Ravenwolf. If you already know your correspondences, how to work with the elements, moon phases, metals & planets, etc, you could do some potent stuff already. This book gives more creative IDEAS for the practitioner to apply his/her knowledge.

This little book is very helpful for bringing positive abundance in your life.
It's not a book that tells you: 'do these spells and you'll be RICH!' That's not what it's about at all. Rather, it's a book on getting your (financial) life into balance. Which is certainly not a bad thing! After all - it's difficult to focus on spiritual matters when you're constantly stressed over finances. I suggest to the bashers that they actually READ the book instead just assuming what it's about. (Gee, what a concept!)

Everyone could use a little abundance in their life and that's what Silver strives to show her readers. The book is written from a slew of spells and practical advice that she used when she was struggling with financial difficulties.
She has practical advice along with spiritual advice, so readers can begin to stop their debts, tackle existing debts and do something on a higher plane to help bring in money and pay off the debts that seem to hang over their heads. Of course, if you're really that strapped for cash, you probably shouldn't be buying this book (especially not new). You'd be better off finding spells and other magical information online, or, buy the book used from the marketplace which would be the better idea. You won't regret it.

Whether you like full on rituals or prosperity devotions and prayers, this book has something for everyone to help them on the road to abundance. Just by doing the prosperity devotion I noticed a difference rather quickly in my situation. Silver Ravenwolf gives great tips on factors that can block your abundance as well. There are even sections on getting creditors off your back and spells to help you curb your spending. It's a very practical and clear guide.

A Good Stepping-Off Point,

There is nothing inherently wrong with the spells within this book, I just believe strongly for a spell to be the most effective-- ie, to best reflect your intended outcome-- you have to write them yourself, catered to your particular dieties and desires. This is a good basis for people who haven't been casting for long, but should really be used as just that-- a base-- from which you craft your own spells.

I purchased this book as a gift for a friend and as a gift for myself. Silver's Spells for Abundance is part of a series of spells books, but this one is my favorite. This is a fun subject to research, learn and experiment with. Wether or not it works is completely up to you!

This book is a collection of abundance spells. This is a good book if you need it. How many abundance spells does it take to work? I guess if one works for you that all you need. The question is which one?

There are many GREAT books about wicca and witchcraft out there please don't waste your money on this cheesy book. There are many many books that focus on different spells to try with lots of background information on how to do them corectly, this book isn't one of them. It is a lot of pop propaganda made to make wicca and witchcraft look like something for teenagers to do/use to get whatever they want instead of a spiritual and respectful religion.
It is full of very unbelievable spells just to look cute so it will sell. This book is not for anyone who is seriously interested in learning about working and casting sucessful spells as she leaves out the basic elements that are truley needed in casting spells. This supposedly "advanced" book doesn't go into details on how to focus or make your spells stronger, it doesn't go into the operations and importance to keep your spells safe so they work corecctly, and it doesn't go into making your own spells (which tend to work BETTER.) It DOES however make the reader feel like they can just read a spell out loud from the book and it will all work in a puff of green smoke...which is far from reality. Instead of just reading spells from a book a reader may want to look into expanding their knowledge of witchcraft and/or wicca on different levels to create a successful life, attitude, and cast spells sucessfully. This book has a mixture of spells, some I would say are decent IF you know what you are doing but at the same time if you know what you are doing there is very little need for these spells so the book isn't a neccesity. Her tone of this book really focuses on money and seems to focus on its importance of obtaining it without mention of appreciating what you have. She also left out all practical information which is important such as the realitly of hard work to get what you need or spells to bring opportunity (such as a good job) or other unmaterial riches to make your life better other then just money money money. It doesn't even touch on self growth but on quick fix improvment through her pop spells. Most wiccans find that most often they realise they don't have a need for many spells (Especially of this kind) and spells become something only a once in a while occurance because you are the one who changes your life and that starts right with your choices and actions and the spell is only to assist you in your journey. If you truely want to learn about wicca and learn how to cast better spells then you need not do the spells in this book but look deeper into magic and learn what makes a spell work and how to improve your spells. Then you won't need a book like this to read aloud from every time you feel you need a change. |
